Hi, everyone; Just banded 6 weeks ago, have not had a fill due to unexplained abdominal pain. Dr. has determined that the tube has come loose from the band. (CAT scan). Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen. I will be having another surgery soon.

Packing for the Hospital
lovechunks replied to MysticstarD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was me, alright. Ixnay on the coughdrops--you could swallow them and get stuck--especially easy when you are reclining. Better to get some of those thin strips or spray for sore throat. -
I researched the surgery for 2 years and spent hundreds of hours on message boards. I followed the instructions to the letter. The one thing I failed to do was drink lots of Water before surgery. The anesthetics and pain medications can cause constipation. I ended up having problems with my IV and became very dehydrated. (I had to spend the night because of sleep apnea.) Let's just say I had one of the worst nights of my life when I got home--and I am not a sissy--I have had 7 surgeries and always made remarkable recoveries. My band was so tight I could not even get water down! I came very close to going back into the hospital. My point is this- it is better to plan a little extra time off just in case of the unexpected. Oh- and don't plan on doing any housework afterwards, either. These stories you read about people going outside and mowing the yard the next day are not typical.:rolleyes

"I feel great when I am done. It gives me a lot of energy" Say this over and over when you wake up.

There is a high protein hot chocolate out there- I used to get it from the docs office. Good luck!
-
I always enjoy the first 2 bites--and then, the pain! Good news is I don't want another for about 3 months.:hungry: Same thing with donuts..
-
Sorry, I didn't read your post very carefully. I wonder if it is possible your tubing has come loose and perforated an organ causing this side effect? It is very hard for the doc to see the tubing is loose without an abdominal CAT scan and then they have to be looking for it.
-
I don't know about the lipase levels, but I had my tubing come loose from the band and it hurt like crazy--took a long time to diagnose, too. Are you haveing restriction?
-
I get stuck with the first bite. If I can wait it out and let it go down without vomiting then I can resume eating with no problem. Yes-- I have always had this problem..the only thing that seems to work is A) have a cup of hot Soup and then wait a little, or eat a FEW bites very carefully, then wait about 10 min and resume eating. It makes it very difficult when I have to eat out. (I have .4 cc in a 4.0 band.)

Emogirl: Have you had a CAT scan of your abdomen and pelvis? I had horrible pain also and it was finally determined that my tubing had broken loose and was floating around poking me all the time. This is an easy fix. By the way, this will not show on an x-ray. Good luck!

Susan: I think the Incredible Shrinking Woman actually lost about 400 lbs.

What reason did you give your job for being out of work?
lovechunks replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You know, before I had the surgery I was determined to keep it private. But, for some reason I ended up telling a male co-worker whose wife is a Dr. and the next thing you know I was telling everyone. The response I have had has been total support and encouragment--I even think it helped me get a promotion! I have had a lot of people I barely knew asking for information about LBS. I know everyone has their reasons, but since I have had some minor complications from the surgery, it has been a lot easier having people already know. The other thing is, people don't feel uncomfortable commenting on my weight loss. Just a thought......... -
Tim: :Banane27: You have come to the right place. If you only stick to one thing right now, make it coming to this board everyday, o.k.? You have already taken a step in the right direction. Now let us help you stay on course! Everythng is going to be o.k.!! I promise!!!

Wear shoes like Grandma used to wear: A solid 1-1.5 in heel with arch support. I guarantee this. I sold shoes for many years. I had heel spurs for a long time before I tried this. No loafers! Noflipflops!

Anyone wish they would have had gastric bypass?
lovechunks replied to Monica S's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's funny this should come up, because I have had some minor complications and am goiing back in for "repair" next week. (My tubing has come disconnected.) Someone I had never met before was talking in the breakroom about why she left her last job as a surgical nurse. She said she had seen so many people die on the table during gastric bypass surgery that she just couldn't take it anymore. I asked her if she had helped in any lapband surgeries and if they had problems. Her answers were. "Plenty" and "None whatsoever." -
Anyone have any problems eating these? Especially the subway low-carb wraps? .
-
Yes, I had the same problems for a few days. Just keep sipping on chicken broth if you can.:grouphug:

Josephine: I am not a health professional but I can tell you that my Dr. strongly recommends B12 supplements. They give shots and also sell sublingual tablets at their office.

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1196429-1,00.html Of course this is nothing new to this board, as many have already learned. BTW-- I received my hospital bill today for 26K-had to spend the night.

Oprah backs out of lapband surgery
lovechunks replied to bbrecruiter2000's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well: here's what I think........ 1) She should have it done LIVE on the internet and charge a nominal fee for viewing that will go to charity. 2) Show it again on her show with her surgeon narrating and have the entire audience consist of successful bandsters. (During ratings week, of course.) 3) Have Dr. Phil on to compliment her and tell her how brave and wonderful she is. 4) At the end of the show, everyone in the audience gets a gift certificate for plastic surgery. :)     -
Cause they feed them corn............. (corn syrup??) and antibiotics.

Great stories!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

When I told my surgeon I would be happy under 200 and ecstatic at 165, he said, "Great! That's very realistic and shows you've done your homework."
