Does anyone have independant health and what are their requirments?

Hi Everyone!! I had .5 taken out and I fees soooooo much better. What a difference .5 can make. Thanks so much!!

I had surgery in November. Just went for my 4th fill last friday. On Friday night, I could not even get water down. I called the Dr. and he wanted to touch base with me in the morning to see how I was on Saturday. When I spoke to him on Saturday, I was able to drink water and protein shakes and soup. But, ever since then, I have not been able to eat anything that has any texture to it. I have been able to drink water and protein shakes, but anything else gets stuck. Am I overfilled? To date, I have 6cc's. At 5cc's I could eat comfortably without any pain. I am afraid that if I do not get a small unfill, that I could do damage to my stomache where the band is by forcing food through the inlflated band. Any ideas? PS I have lost 47 lbs to date, so I know the band is working. Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated.

I have a fatty liver. I actually had to have it resected last year because, my liver was not functioning properly. My surgeon stated that I had to lose 100 lb soon, or my liver could stop functioning all together and then I would be on a transplant list. With that being said, my lap band surgeon is aware of my fatty liver. He stated that he would try to perform the surgery laproscopic, but if the liver was too big or if I have too many adhesions from the prior surgery he would have to do an open lap band procedure. I have been on the liver shrink diet for 4 weeks now hoping that we can go the first way mentioned. But he also has prepared me for the worse too!

M, I too feel similar. I started a thread wednesday, "what is wrong with me"? I received some really good advice. So, take a look at that thread and see what you think. Dont give up all hope. You have waited soooo long for this surgery. Once you have the surgery, you WILL start to lose the weight, and I think you will have a whole different outlook on life. :tongue2:

vangirl, keep up the pre-diet and you will lose the weight!!!You can do it!!!

I received my surgery date today. It is November 24th. I keep reading how everyone is so excited for their surgery and also the declines that have made many so sad. So, why am I sooo blahhhh? Perhaps it hasnt hit me yet? Has anyone else felt this way?
-
I think you hit the nail on the head. I dont want to fail at this. I have not been successful in the past and want this to work so badly. Thanks for your encouragement.!!!! And I will think postive!! It is so great here to have so many people going through or have gone through this. The support is unbelieveable!!!!

I am so glad that others do or have felt the same way. I was almost feeling ungreatful because I have seen so many people get dissapointed with declines on their insurance or their insurance doesnt cover it. I think it is just the anxiety of it all. TJ Frickey3 - stay strong with the pre-op diet!!!!I have been on it for 2 weeks already because of a fatty liver, after day 3 or 4 it gets much better. I will definately keep you up to date. Jodi-thanks for making feel like my concerns are common. So Im not so crazy afterall lol.....
-
Thanks Jodi for your support. I think I am scared of going through this because I am afraid of A. the surgery not working B. not being able to find restriction and gaining weight C. and always being hungry Its just that you read so many stories about people experience's, and the people whose surgery does not work out are always the stories that stick in your head. But you are living proof it works....I saw your ticker...Great job...your almost there!!!! Kim:thumbup:

Does anyone have Independant Health? My husband is thinking of switching insurances. What are their requirements? -
Thanks, I will look for that book at Borders, if it isnt on the shelf, I will order it.:w00t:

I began my journey for WLS in August. I jumped through all the hoops that the insurance company requires. But the last step of my process was the psych appt. The facility I am using only uses one psych dr. So I made the appt. I am so dissapointed. The Dr. spent 25 minutes with me, interviewed me and after $180 later, called to inform me that I did great on the personality test and that I am a binge eater?!?!?! He suggested I get a self help book or (of course) come to see him.... it is an easy fix. In the interview, the only question he asked regarding eating was "Do I eat more that I should at meals?" My answer was sure, I love food, that is probably my problem. I guess what I am asking, has anyone else had this diagnosis and what have they done to fix it and do you think this is going to be a problem with my insurance co?
-
Thanks for your input. I do find it odd that this surgery center only uses 1 psych dr. He probably does get alot of business with this center only using him. I will go and listen to what he says and maybe his diagnosis will make more sense if he spends some time with me discussing this. O dont have anything to lose.:w00t:

I think he was just trying to show me where I could struggle afterwards. I want this to be a success. It was suggested to me by the medical administror to go and see a nutritionist and a councelor. I agree, it wont hurt. Thanks for your input!!:w00t:

I spoke to the medical/insurance administrator today. She looked at my psych eval and said it wasnt even in the report and everything looked fine. She is submitting the paperwork to the insurance company this week. She stated that I should hear something by next week. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I know what you mean, I just am so baffled at that diagnosis. To me a binge eater is somone that clears the refrigerator out or eats uncontollably. I eat 3 times a day and eat what my family does. My mind says that I am full, but I always get those few extra bites in. To the psych dr. I guess that is binging. But I guess the psych dr and myself have different opinions as to what a binge eater is.

So many questions!
kh1967 replied to Christine_California's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have a fatty liver. I have been on the pre-op diet for 4 weeks. I had to lose 5% of my body weight for insurance purposes, and the Dr. said I might as well start the diet now. The Dr. also told me that if I didnt get the liver to shrink, I may have to have an open surgery. I do not want that. The psych eval was a 25 minute interview and then 370 questions asked in different ways. I did fine on the 370 questions, but was told I am a binge eater. I am not sure what that means, because I do not clear the refrigerator out, nor eat 10 pizza's. So I am not sure how that will effect my insurance approval. I am in a holding pattern for now awaiting the call to schedule my surgery. I am kinda thinking, that I may have to see a counselor in order to get this binge eating thing taken care of before insurance approves me. But that is just my opinion. I am not sure how common it is. Your other questions I can not answer, because I have not been banded as of yet. Good luck to you. -
Stick to your diet. You can do it. It will get better on the 3rd or 4th day. I have a fatty liver, and I have been on it for 4 weeks now. I have dropped 20 lbs and actually feel better. No heart burn, no headaches and bloated feeling. You will be thankful if you stick to it, the last thing you want is a cancelled surgery or worse, an open surgery. Suger free popsicles atleast let you chew a little. Good Luck!! You can do it!!!
