Lack of oxygen is what causes yawning, not hiccups. Various things can cause your diaphram to spasm. It is not that you need air. Deep breaths and water cause the diaphram to stretch, thereby helping the spasms to stop.

OK so I probably shouldn't freak out, but... My fist helping of cream soup tasted so good I had a big bowl of it. I felt really full. To the point of being a bit uncomfortable for about 15 minutes. About 2 days later I was really hungry like before surgery and could eat/drink larger amounts than before. Did I stretch my pouch or worse? I didn't know there was a limit to how much we could drink. I thought liquid just went straight thru, even the slightly thicker liquids. Now I am at 2 weeks and full on mushies. I feel no restriction hardly at all. And I can eat a good cup of food or even a little more at a sitting? Is this too much? Please advise.

Thanks everyone  I will relax and work on eating small meals. If I am still hungry, like real hunger I can always have more in a little bit, after I am sure my pouch is empty.

Good luck Julie  let us know how it works. -
Maybe you moved wrong in your sleep to irritate it. Sorry not much help, too new to know what is normal for 6mo post-op. I would ask your doctor. Hope it's nothing

According to my food list also shredded chicken with something saucy. Make sure it's really tender and chew to paste

How long have you been banded? There are many home remedies for hiccups and different things work for different people. A hiccup is caused by your diaphram spasming. Sometimes from eating or drinking to fast. Honestly though I can get the hiccups with no food or beverage in site. As to whether it can hurt your band, I really don't know. But I feel for you, I know they can be a real drag. I've had them once since being banded and fortunately I was able to drink enough water fast enough to get rid of them. Good luck

Well, it was my understanding that the stitches need time to heal. My doc ok'd me to soft foods earlier than he originally expected to. He told me to proceed with caution up to solid foods. They also listed fish and tender chicken as soft foods. They do clear liquid 24 hrs, then full liquid, then soft food (like what you could normally eat without teeth), then solids. Now that said, I was ok'd to soft foods early and told to progress with caution towards solids as I felt comfortable. I have had no pain other than port discomfort. Some people heal faster than others and some have more swelling than others. I would think the biggest issue is if that fry were to have caused a PB. I would think PBing or vomitting in the first several weeks would do more damage than progressing a little faster than the next person. Bottom line, do what your doc says, he knows what's best for you.

Northwest Weight loss surgery in Kirkland?
waterlily1072 replied to a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I went to Dr. Montgomery as did my aunt. He and his staff are wonderful! They are helpful and imformative. I was in and out in about 4 hours and it was $18,500 and that includes a full year of aftercare and fills/unfills. My aunt is the one who recommended him. Until I talked to her I was thinking of RNY. So glad I listened -
Nioxin and Thinning Hair Treatments
waterlily1072 replied to marypetunia's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OK in the industry, skin end but still know a bit about hari. Nioxin works well for some people. As do all the others. It is so individual. My sister noticed a big difference in her thinning hair with nioxin, used the shampoo conditioner, the conentrated serums (always changing what they call it as they imporve it). All of it helped, but what made the biggest difference was the nioxin supplements. The real key to stopping the thinning and even regrowth for anyone is trial and error. If you try something try the entire treatment, don't pick and choose. What will work for you is determined by why your hair is thinning. It could be genetic, hormonal, diet, etc. so try different things for a fair amount of time. Nioxin does take some time to work, but for those it works for it does help regrow even. Nothing is a miracle cure that will give you all your hair back. If you don't find something that works for you, consider getting a weave. They are pretty durable and your hair will always look great! -

I have a theory on scales accuracy. I believe that the more you weigh the less accurate they are. The closer you get to a scales max capacity the more skewed it gets. Simply most bathroom scales are not designed to weigh us at all. So go by what the surgeons scale says or do what I do. I go to a friends office with a professional scale like at the docs office to weigh in. At least I know it's farily accurate and can handle well ovr my weight Bathroom scale still reads ee for eek. Next phase is err for error. It like my hubby though. Fickle little s*** -
You are doing great! 16 pounds :clap2: The first 6 weeks are about healing not about losing. I know we all want to lose anyway, myself included. Bottom line is your body just went through a major ordeal! You can't expect it to know which way is up or down. Just keep forllowing the Rules, get your fill if you need it. This is a long road we are on. Chin up you are doing awesome

I am sorry you hurt. Day 2 and day 3 were the worst for me. After that it started getting better. I have handled a lot of pain, and this was no different, it sucked. But two weeks later and I ony have some port pain left and was off pain meds by the end of 1 week. I hope you feel better soon :grouphug: and welcome to bandland

WAHOO! Nope not on my home scale yet, but..... Went to a friends work (physical therapy/gym) and weighed in. I know that even amongst professional scales there is some varience but shouldn't be much. My friend that drove me over today (we out on errands today) said that that scales weighs her about 2 pounds hevier than her doc's scale, so, here goes. 5lb loss this week! Yay, I am so happy. I'd love more but down is definitely good. As much as I'd love a miracle loss, I know that it isn't realistic. Down is Down. Hoepfully next week, I will hit the old 20lbs down :grouphug: Hope the rest of you are having a great day too -

Ditterences in Food Stages Time Frame

My doc told me to porgess as I was comfortable using caution. He gave a guidline of 2wk liquid, 2wk mushie, start incorparoating solids. After my 1wk post op he said I could move to mushies if I felt ready and told me to progress slowly and cautiosly but didn't give me any real restraints from there out, so I am starting my third week and on mushies and soft solids. Not sure when I'll get up the courage to eat stuff like raw veggies, something tells me it will be a while. Every doctor has their own guidelines based on their own patients acculmulitive experience. Seems to me with this much varience it is a very individual thing. Best advice it listen to your doc, your body, and your good sense. Do not listen to the little voice in your head that tries to rationalise eating something you know you shouldn't. -
Grats! Hope you have a great and quick recovery :bananadoggywow:

How does your DD feel about your WLS?
waterlily1072 replied to sunsett's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, my daughter has a bit of a weight issue. She is 60lbs overweight at 12! I am very worried about her portions and the junk she eats. She is saying she has to lose her excess before I get all the way to my goal. She doesn't want me to be thinner than her, lol. If it a self esteem issue, it's hard, I still remember when I started wearing bigger sizes than my mom. It was devastating at first, but I adjusted and hopefully your daughter will too. Good luck -
LOL It will work and yeah it is pretty nasty, but it works really really well. grab a book and an extra roll of tp

My surgeons office suggested milk of magnesia for consitipation, it will get you moving :Banane33: Also, constipation can make you feel full and slow everything down, it does for me. When I'm not hungry all I usually have to do is ask myself when did I last go. And by normal I meant that your experiences fell within the realm of what many experience. After all what is "normal"
-
Don't force anything down. What you are experiencing is normal. Many people respond to the surgery with a lot of swelling. As for not getting enough protein, a few days or even a week isn't a big deal. As soon as you can get the protein drinks in do, 'til then don't worry. Try walking for gas pressure too. And no it's different than the golf ball. I know the pressure you are toalking about. I think it's a combo of gas and swelling, and yes, it feels foreign. Just relax and smile casue as soon as the swelling goes down comes some serious hunger, at least for me it did.

Confused....advice from a nurse please!
waterlily1072 replied to Yoda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I was afraid to pull anything off, bandaids or steristrips and they were still there at my one week post op. Surgein pulled off the bandaids and some of the sterisstrips as well and told me to work on the others later that day. LOL. He said they needed air to heal faster -
I need a personal assistant to manage my leftovers!

Gladwar makes a little storage container that one cup of food perfectly. Pack the left overs in little one cup servings and eat them for your lunches and send them with your so for lunch too! If you still have too many, then you don't have to cook the next night  -
Well I can relate, my periods are messed up and have been pretty much on for 2 days off for 2 days for the last 3 weeks!!! It makes it hard. Just remember, your body can handle a few extra calories at this time. Get some gortons fish filets, non breaded and splurge with some tartar sauce. Nally brand has only 1carb per serving. And for chocolate attacks do semisweet choclate chips. It's amazing how just a few of those will satisfy your need. DO NOT GO OUT TO EAT!!! Thie serving sizes they give you will be very hard to resist and you will end up PB'ing in the bathroom at the restaurant.
