    OK gonna try the dreaded...

Well, it is normally very thick like the consistency of very sour milk, kinda of gloppy. It comes in diffrent flavors, mint and mine is cherry flavored. And yes it is a natural laxative that works a little too well for me sometimes. Thanks goodness I hardly ever have to take it.

    OK gonna try the dreaded...

MOM (milk of magnesia) Ugh, I gave it 3 hours to pass through my intestines on it's own but I am miserable and it's time to swallow the MOM. Wish me luck that it works fast this time. Sometimes it's quick and sometimes it's endless.

What is your goal weight based on?

I am with you, last time I was 150 I was a size 16! Still fat! However I am using the 150 as a starting point. People who carry large amounts of excess weight build denser bones and more muscle to support carrying the weight so what we look like at 150 after we lose could be very different than we looked when we were there originally. And I go tmy 150 from a height weight chart.

    Newbie

Congrats on your new band! As for advice, sip sip sip. And you may be one of the lucky few who don't experience a lot of swelling. It is normal to feel hungry, and you don't want to reach the "full" feeling the goal is to stop eating before that point. You are on mushies I believe at this point, check out the food section for ideas, remember you can put almost anything into a blender :hungry: And good luck

    Update on Black Tongue

My Mom swears by yogurt when on any antibiotic. She gets a yeast infection everytime if she doesn't. And thrush is a yeast infection of the mouth I believe. I can only imagine it wasn't fun. I hope you are feeling better soon

    OK gonna try the dreaded...

I have always backed up easily, I think I may have inherited my Grandfathers issue of having several extra feet of intestine, won't know till the day they have to do a colonoscopy, hehe. That aside I had a bout of extremely soft bowels and took an Immodium AD. Two days later bam totally backed up. Today my body is still emptying out. (I know you all wanted to know that ) But yes Jack it is the texture that is the worst! But I have a hard time with most fiber stuff, gonna try the metamucil cookies, my banded auntie eats one a day and swears by it. Sigh, this too shall pass (pun intended, lol)

    10cc band

I didn't get good resdtriction till my 3rd fill. If you look on the poll thread for the 10cc band you will see that the vast majority takes around 7cc's or more to reach restriction. It took me till 6.5 to feel anything and 7.5 to have decent restriction that I am happy with. And swelling for me went down after about 9-10 days, and I swell a little with each fill that lasts about 4 days. But keep in mind that everyone is so different.
  8. It's not something you would feel if you didn't get enough one day here or there, because that is gonna happen and it's ok. But if you are consistently not getting enough you will experience more hunger and fatigue. Not getting enough protien means your body will burn muscle thereby lowering your metabolism and we don't want that

    Midnight Snack Anyone???/

My favorite late night snack is peanut butter. A spoonful will do it for me everytime. I need to go get one now actually because my stomach is actually growling and there is cheesecake in the fridge that my hubby bought. He says, just don't eat it, haha, like it's that easy. Well so far so good, but it's only been there a few hours. I need to go to bed and forget it even exists. So to answer is yes I can relate, can't eat breakfast, lunch is snug but I can get down some food, dinner is perfect then late night hits and I feel wide open. I am nocturnal by nature.

    Sample Menus

Breakfast is usually my daily milk, I am really tight in the morning and food has always made me sick to my stomach in the morning, so I choose to drink my breakfast. lunch is usually a can of tuna with a little mayo and a pickle or some sort of Soup and a yogurt Snack on a few cheerios or triscuits to keep me from trying to scarf my dinner Dinner is whatever I can eat out of what I fix for my family, or am lucky enough to have fixed for me by my dh (last night was the insides of a yummy deli sandwich) Snack on pretzels or popcorn about 2-3 times per week

    10cc band

Well supposedly it is less likely to slip. But the downside is it takes a lot longer to get good restriction. But all in all which band that is chosen for you is based on your stomach size and shape. In the end they both restrict down to the same inside diameter, so it doesn't affect your long term weight loss to have the bigger one.
  12. Cheryl, My surgeon has me on 56g of protein per day (I round up to 60). So far no hair loss at all. I know some who's doc's say 100 others who say 50. I think with that wide a range as long as you feel good and are getting at least the minimum in that range then you should be fine, just adjust that number as your body indicates. I know what you mean about not seeing the scale move. My first week, was less than 500 calories a day and I didn't lose. My advice would be to do what I did this month. Stay off the scale. I had my dh hide it from me. So many of us focus on what that stupid thing says, when we should be focusing on our choices and our activity and generaly how we feel. I think the standard is 6 weeks for a fill btw. Is the 3 mo thing his general policy or his personalized plan for you? I wouldn't go to another surgeon to get filled for your first one as this may upset him and his policies, but you may ask him about it and see if he will do it for you sooner it's worth a try, but who knows you may not need it  Good luck
  13. Cheryl, Grats on getting the surgery! I know it is hard when we are used to eating till we are stuffed, but I try and focus on how little I can get by on rather than how much I can eat. Eat until your hunger pains are gone and that is enough. If you are experiencing a lot of hunger ask yourself how much protein you are having. You are only 3 weeks out from surgery you should still be on mushies and they will never "fill" you up, especially with your band unfilled. You are healing, this isn't the time to worry about weight loss. Your weight gain could be fluid retention or just your body adjusting to mushies after liquids. Many people gain when they switch to musihes, it is very normal.

    Not band friendly foods

I am amazed at how many can't do scrambled eggs. It is the only way I can do eggs. Can't eat... bread Pasta rice (any kind) pizza chicken breast (unless it's canned) anything deep fried is a no go celery Caution foods... toast watermelon soda (yes I can tolerate some days but not all) tortilla's ice cream (yes sometimes it makes me foamy) beef jerkey this is what I have disocered so far for me, good luck on your journey

    Pigging out!

Same here, took 3 fills to get me where I needed to be, or at least in the immediate neighborhood. I just tried really hard to not eat bad foods so I wouldn't gain weight while I was waiting for restriction.

Julie, you are so right, I need to not get on the scale. It is too late for this morning, but I am gonna lay off the scale till September 1st. I think my restriction is close to perfect, I am almost never hungry at all but I can eat good healthy food without pb'ing (just need to be cautious with chicken). I am gonna work my fill and stay off the scale and just live life this month, carefree of peoples expectations. And I will check in here on LBT to encourage others OOh and on a fun note I put in extensions for the Rennesiance (sp) Fair. My hair went from short and sassy to half way down my back! I wouldn't want to keep it, it's just not me, but it will be fun to have period hair to go with my ren. clothes

    Sex after banding

My hubby and I had sex somewhere around a week and a half out and it was fine. I would recomend placing your hand over your port if it is uncomfortable. I know my port bothered me for several weeks after surgery but placing a little light pressure on it helped tremendously.

I have to admit I have been very tmpted to start counting calories. It doesn't seem possible to not lose on so little food. And yes we will get there eventually

Hey lapbandit, is it possible you are excersizing so much you are gaining muscle? Take a break, go back to your norm and see what happens I am wondering if I am having a mental block somehow. Like my head won't allow my body to acheive twoterville yet. I have never lost this much on a diet and maybe my body/head is freaking out now that i am so close to the two's and a full 50 lb loss? Tell me what y'all think, and have a great day

    Breakfast or snack

Keeping in mind that dark chocolate is very good for you in small doses, how about melting some chips and drizzling some over the banana and then freezing it for a super cool and yummy treat :hungry:

Watermelon is technically a mushie right?

Hmm.... Watermelon is mushy but it is really high in fiber. I have a hard time with it unless I cut it up into tiny pieces. Otherwise it doesn't break down enough with chewing to go through my stoma. I have a much easier time with honeydew and cantaloupe, but those definitely aren't true mushy but soft solids. Good luck
