Ooh I have an NSV I forgot about. Last night I noticed my wedding ring was getting really loose, so I went to show my husband how shaking my hand would make it fall off and well, it went flying onto a corner of the room where I have lots of paperwork stacked and baskets full of projects lol. It took me almost 20minutes of digging through stuff to find it at the very bottom of one of my baskets (that last one too, hehe) I guess I was shaking my hand a little too vigorously
  3. There seems to be mixed opinions among the medical profession as to whether carbonation can stretch the pouch. However, even if there is a chance do you relaly want to risk it? That said I spent about 3mo drinking diet coke this last year while banded and can tell you that I only got by with it because I didn't have enough restriction. When I am restricted just the tiniest bit of accident carbonation consumption leads to serious discomfort, not worth it. So when I got my last fill I knew it was bye bye soda for me.

UGH..Im back and what a roller coaster!

I remember you And welcome back And good for you for all the positive changes you have made :clap2: As to the gurgling that is normal and for the first week after my last fill that finally gave me good restriction I was producing a bit more saliva than normal, but then I was pretty swollen. As for the gurgling, that is perfectly normal. It's kind of fun to feel and hear your pouch slowly empty. I only hear it when I take my first bite or after about 2 or 3 hours after eating as the last little bit leaves my pouch. That gurgling sound to me is a reminder that I am finally restricted, yay

calories, fat or carbs? what do I count?

Ask your doc, what he wants you to be counting. I personally count calories and protien first and formemost. My surgeon and nutritionist say at least 56g of protien a day to prevent muscle loss. I have not lost any hair and personally know people who had tons of protien and did lose their hair. Hair loss is a very individual thing and may be triggered by different things for different people, so don't panic. But protien is essential to weight loss, without it our bodies will burn muscle before fat, thus lowering our metabolism (bad). I do pay some attention to how much fat I take in, but mostly I only add fat to food 3 servings per day, so like a total of 3 tablespoons of mayo, or 3 teaspoons of butter or margerine etc. It's an old weight watchers thing that I have used with every weightloss attempt since I was 9 and it works

    Can't eat bread!

One of the first things my surgeons office asks me when doing a fill assesment is "can you still eat bread?" If I say yes, she says, "well let's put a stop to that" (provided the other indicators don't say tight enough). Most people with good restrictin cannot eat bread, very well toasted toast maybe. There are some exceptions, but I wouldn't count on being an exception. I am glad I can't eat bread, it's loaded with empty calories and carbs that make you hungrier for the things that are bad for you. Eat the insides of the sandwich, the meat and cheese and lettuce, the good stuff

Holy crapola, I am not eating pickles again for a snack. I wasn't even thinking about the sodium and water retention. I consumed over 8000mg of sodium yesterday :faint: Well today is another day, thank goodness

The reason I aksed what I did was because some people mistake first bite syndrome as can't eat. They are afraid to. Take it slow and chew really well. I know the first few days of solids after I got good restriction were a serious learning curve. And from what I understand chicken is a major culprit for a lot of bandsters. Also, it takes me 3 days after a fill for all the swelling to go down, everyone is different and you will learn how your body responds. I say if after a week after a fill you can't eat solids then you probably need a slight unfill. I always give it a full week though And Good job everyone who did their first week check in :clap2:

Leecee you are doing great! Don't let that 5 pounds bother you, most of us have had a similar experience, where life made us just go nuts for a little while. You are getting back on track and that is what is most important Can you go for another fill yet? Ridin, can you describe the feeling you are experiencing and calling "do not pass go"? Because from what you described it can be a few different things. Can you drink fluids? Can you eat mushies? What day was your fill? All these things are important for us to know so we can help.

OMGOSH I was so bad today, I ate 2 bowls of jello with whip cream, ok it was sugar free jello and it was cool whip lite but still it adds up, that's 160 calories of fluff! Oh but it was sooo good. Sweet tooth satified

    WA State Band Docs

I went to Northwest Weightloss Surgery and they are fabulous. My aunt had hers done with them too. They are among the bery best in the country and almost everyone that works for them is banded! So they all understand exactly what you are going through. One of the fill nurses there is an NP and she wrote one of the most respected books on gastric banding and is banded herself and at goal, I always go to her for my fills. I recommend checking them out

    Soda Pop...

Well there are a lot of opinions out there as to whether it can affect your pouch size, some say it can others say it can't. Here is what I have noticed, when I was drinking d coke everyday, I wasn't losing, it was replacing my water content and giving me heartburn. When I stopped drinking it I started losing and the heartburn went away. I have gone back and forth many times in my life and this is always the pattern. On a completely different angle, a friend of mines husband is a food scientist and he says that some chemical in diet soda actually prevents you from losing weight! Might sound crazy but I look at my evidence and figure, well, he's probably right.

what do I turn to now? Starting to feel low!

That is my biggest struggle. I had a nervous breakdown and had to take 3 months off because of that very problem. My life was so busy and I had no time to stop and cope with the fact that my way of relieving stress was gone and to find a new one. I stopped coming to this board and I stopped losing weight, I didn't go for fills when I should have. All because I was so depressed that I couldn't eat the way I had always eaten for my entire life. All I can say is that we are all here for you, this is the best place to come because I'd wager to say that almost everyone here has felt the same way. I know I have good days and I have bad ones, but it does get easier. The thing that helps me the most is being here on this site. Just hang in there, once you get past the healing phase you wil be able to eat real food again and that will make a big difference.

Wow Lapbandit, I jsut looked at your totals so far from your preop diet, you are amazing, I am the one trying to catch up to you. I think you were banded like a week after me, I know we were the same month. You have lost 100lbs more than me! You are the one who has kicked some serious butt girl!

    Why am I SOOOO COLD??

My guess would be that your body is working hard to heal and can't spare the energy to keep you warm too! I get this way when I have a bad period too. Also being in Floida you are used to warm weather, whenever a cold snap comes I alwasy need to have the heat set a good 4 degrees warmer than in summer, winter time the house is 72 summertime it's 68. And you my dear are probably not used to 20 degree weather.

    I'm a Pissy Missy

It's stories like these that make me so greatful for my surgeons office. Almost everyone that works there is banded! I am so sorry she treated you that way, it is fabulous that you quit smoking :clap2: good for you! I'd find another dietician, one that's suportive. BTW what book did she give you to read? If it is the one by Jessie Ahroni it is fabulous

I tried that today  One can makes three meals for me, lol. Mixed it with a little mayo and some relish, turned out yummy It's nice cause it's so moist in needs very little mayo

    Cheeseburgers???

Simple carbs are addictive, literally! Your bodies are going through withdrawls. Some bandsters can still eat bread or toast once they reach the sweet spot, but most cannot. You will find that when you have to chew something to goo before you can swallow it that fast food hamburger patties taste really nasty, among other foods. Bread tastes terrible when you have to chew to goo, tastes a lot like paste (flour+water=glue) What will happen is that your tastebuds will adjust to liking real whole foods that are actually good for you! It just takes time. The other day I had a dorito and ya know what? It didn't even taste like I remember it tasting, it tasted terrible. Give it time, suck on a sf fudgecicle

How do you eat your tuna?

OK hoping to find a lower calorie way to mix my tuna. Currently I use mayo, and have to use enough so that it sticks together, otherwise it is to dry for me and tastes yucky. I can't stand it plain. I don't personally care for low cal mayo. I am gonna try adding mustard to cut down on the amount of mayo needed. Does anyone have any suggestions to try?

    Have some post op questions

I ditto what LapBandit said and would like to add one thing. Everyones natural restriction from the band unfilled is different, some have a lot of restriction right off add swelling to that and they might not be able to get anything but clear liquids down. Clear liquids are not as thick as full liquids. I know when I am really tight in the mornings I notice a big difference between my morning glass of Water and my protien shake. Surgeons each have their own way of handling the post-op diet but if you are hungry, talk to him he may advance you quicker once he sees where you are at restriction wise. Good luck and congrats on being banded Oh and as for erosion, I was told that most erosions take place because the flap of stomach that is brought up over the band and stiched in place to secure the band is too tight over the band.

    Am I a bad Grandfather?

I am not a grandparent but a I am a step-mom and I can tell you that imo it is not our job to be their friend first but to be their parental figure first after that then friend. My kids sometimes hate me because I make them pick up after themselves (oh my) and go to bed at bedtime. But they also know that I love them and that I do these things for their own good. I can tell you that dessert in our house is rare to start with, and their meal needs to be finished to a reasonable degree. Meaning they have to have eaten app. 2oz of protien and at least 4 bites of veggies. I don't want them to learn to overeat but I don't want them to learn to replace food with junk either. I try to find a balance and for each child it might be a little varied depending on what they are being picky about. One thing is for sure they know that dessert is never a guarantee. Kids often think of us grown ups as mean, but one day they will know that we taught them these hard lessons out of love. And no you are not a bad grandfather These things are difficult at best but what you did you did out of love for her and hope for how she might grow up to be and that is a good thing.
