Could this bra size calculator thing possibly be accurate?
waterlily1072 replied to kyethra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well.... For most modern day bra's those calculators are bunk. That said, I was once fitted for a super support bra at the insistance of my mother. It was not a stretchy bra at all. It was more like the bras from the 50's. Stiff cotton. With that type of a bra the sizing is pretty much the same as those calculators. I think of it kind of like european sizes vs. us sizes. Except not euro or us. If that makes any sense. Buy what fits you and is comfy. The professional that fit me said that 100% of your breasts should be contained within the cup without any spill over. They should be filled out so that the fabric does not pucker or cave in anywhere, and the center piece between the cups should sit right against the sternum not be suspended out from the sternum. I hope this helps -
Just a note on Chicken. It is a notorious food for many bandsters as being a real problem food. My only 2 PB's ever were on chicken. And one of those times I had no restriction! Chicken = Caution at least for me.

OK so I am trying to find an easy to use GI chart that will tell me the GI for everyday foods, like different fruits and veggies etc. I have hyper-insulinism, a prediabetic state, and would really like to know. My doc hasn't suggested anything other than weight loss and staying away from simple carbs, but I am trying to be pro-active. I'd like to know which are the best fruits and veggies to eat and which are the worst. I know I have heard Jack mention that bananas are a bit high on the GI list, at least as far as fruit is concerned. Is simply going by how many carbs are in a serving of fruit a good indicator of this? So lower carb fruits are more complex? Please some assistance would be well appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Jack

If you haven't ecperienced pain, I doubt that you have damamged anything. However if you continue to eat soft foods while still in your first 2 weeks you could! So get back on the wagon. Isopure makes a clear liquid protien drink that you can buy. The protien from that will make you feel loads better And as soon as you are on full liquids go for the protien shakes!

Thanks Jack, I know you are an expert at this, and appreciate your response Faith, I found that website last night, and it doesn't seem very user friendly. I can't pull up a list of all fresh fruits for example, I have to look them up individually. It does however have lots of info, thanks For now my issues are kind of reverse to a diabetic. With hyper-insulinism as I understand it from my pcp is that when I eat carbohydrates before I can even get off a sugar spike my body produces way more insulin than it needs to. As a result my blood sugar usually hangs out at around 75-80 and I have all this extra insulin to turn everything i eat into fat! As a result, I was always hungry, no matter what till I was so full that I physically could not eat anymore. I am trying to give my pancreas a rest from producing insulin and stay off that rollercoaster in an effort to not turn diabetic which at this point is a real possiblilty. I think I really need to stick to the fruits and veggies that are lowest on the glycmic index or maybe just the lowest in carbs?

I can live with almonds I will try that! I know in my whole history of dieting that anytime I lost weight I ended up constipated. I think that for me at least it is weight loss induced. And trust me my grandmother practically drowned me in all the Water she made me drink, lol. As for the scale sticking, I have a theory that every weight where on the way up we stayed at for a while is a spot we stick at on the way down. I was stuck at 300 and now at 280, both were weights that I maintained for a long period of time on my way up the scale. The difference with this stick is that I am not going to get discouraged and go off plan. Lat time I did because I didn't have good retriction and was doing it all myself, this time the band is making it easier. Much easier. My biggest challenge everyday is getting enough protien. I don't enjoy eating nothing but meat, fish and poultry. As soon as I get enough money coming in I am gonna try these 3oz tubes of protien, they are 42g of protien each and they are supposed to taste like liquid Jello. Oh and they have zero carbs. Sadly a pack of 12 is $30 a bit pricey.

Pain in my abdomen right side
waterlily1072 replied to libertysuzanne's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I fyou are worried go see your doc. But it sounds like it could be gas. I know I suffer from chronic constipation issues and get a lot of gas pains when it is time to go grab the milk of mag. Then within 12hours or so they are all gone. Excersise would help gas pains, and that it goes away with a BM and returns slowly after also indicates to me that gas is a probablilty. Or even a slight obstruction that needs to move through. Other possibilities could be gall stones if you still have your gallbladder. Not sure how exceersize affects gall stones though. Good luck and kkep us posted -
Did your shoe size change?
waterlily1072 replied to chocolate_snaps's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My feet have gotten thinner but not shorter, yet. I am hoping to go down a full size sometime soon. I have lots of very cute shoes from college that I'd love to be able to wear again. I am a total shoe hound. -
Well I am ready to throw my scale out the window, It's not moving! Dangit! I am on plan though so it will eventually. I spent half the night with terrible gas pain, got 2 hrs of sleep in before time for the track, I was bad and opted to sleep I have just had the worst time with constipation. Anyone else have this problem? Seems like I rarely have BM's without Milk of Mag. It's becoming a weekly ritual that I hate! :angry

Bmi 28, Am I Crazy--Considering surgery
waterlily1072 replied to kit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The thing is that the band is just a tool. We all still watch everything we eat. It isn't a miracle cure for weight issues. A banded person can gain weight too very easily in fact. All we have to do is eat the junk food that goes right through so easily. The band will not restrict chips, cookies, candy, ice cream, any liquid calories, pudding, frosting. Log everything you eat and be honest. If you are eating these things even on a semi regular basis, it is likely that the band wouldn't be effective for you. If you don't eat junk and are not a grazer and simply eat too much at meal time then the band can help you. I see nothing wrong with preventative banding, but if it is just another diet for someone or they think it is a quick and easy fix, it's a lot of money to spend on a diet and it is far from easy. Good luck on your journey -
My fill nurse told me that bands can be filled well beyond their listed capacity and still retain their integrity. She has a patient with 13cc's in his 10cc band and he still has room for plenty more should he require it. If your doctor says you don't have more room get a sceond or third opinion!

Weights and Measures clarificiation
waterlily1072 replied to sherilynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A liquid measure measures app weight for the average liquid where as a dry measure measures volume. Hope this helps. BTW I have found them to be pretty comparable except when baking The amount that your pouch can hold is approximately 1/2 to 1 cup (volume) everyone varies a little bit depending on their pouch and the amount of fill. -
Yay LapBandit That is fabulous! I am sure I will be able to hear you yell. I am on the cusp between the 80's and the 70's. I am poised there and have been for a few days. I am just waiting a few days to weigh in hopes that when I do weigh I will be 27?. I just wish that I could lose weight as fast as I am capable of gaining it. I could easily gain 5lbs a week if I tried. It stinks that I can't lose that much Ahh impatience, my biggest weakness. But tomorrow morning is the track again Have a great night everyone

I was told that it is caused by irritation to the diaphram. Since the diaphram is so close to the stomach it makes sense that it is often irritated after surgery and for a few people beyond. Some people experience that irritaion and shoulder pain as a signal that they have filled their pouch a little to full others because of posture, It all depends on the individual. When I breathe too deep mine will hurt a little, or if I've just eaten and then I slouch. It is not abnormal Just annoying

losing weight means losing boobs?!
waterlily1072 replied to BlueTattoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it depends on the person and how much of the breast is fatty tissue opposed to mammary gland. I am seriously hoping to go down to a c cup when all is said and done, and when I have my breast lift I will have them reduced if I need to to get that C cup. I agree there is such a thing as too much. I really want to be able to wear more tailored cuts and if your boobs are too big then those just dont work. -
My aunt is banded and eats the fiber cookies and has no problems with them, but I was told to be careful with taking fiber supplements as they can expand in the pouch and possibly stretch it or even clump together and get stuck. I haven't been brave enough to try it though. I was thinking of buying some all bran cereal though and adding a little to a bit of yogurt for breakfast. Haven't done it yet though.

I agree, I always do my best work when it is last minute too. Hard to do with a thesis though. I was a music major so I had juries and recitals, whoopee, gosh those juries were the most stressful. But seriously take a day to go to the beach and throw rocks and just sit and relax, go to a park and swing or whatever you find relaxing and therapeutic, ooh maybe a nice massage. Even if you just take a few hours to yourself it can go a long way in making you more productive and in clearing your head of the clutter. Remeber you ar enot on a deadline for the lapband, so don't stress about that, I know you want to get it done but we are only human. Just take it a day at a time and you will get there.

Well the key rules I can think of are these at least for me. - Drink all your Water - No carbonation (varies from doc to doc) - Get your recommended amount of protien each day - Always eat your protien first - Chew to goo - Dont' drink with your meals (amount of time to wait to drink varies from doc to doc) - Take a multi Vitamin every day

Libra, I am glad you are going to your doc, no woman should have to have her period every 2 weeks. I actually don't mind because I spent so many years without one. It's good for me to catch up so to speak, lol. Mine are pretty light so it's just a slight inconvenience. Excersize hmm what's that? LOL! Ok my back and knee was in pretty bad shape when I started out and I was actually advised by 2 different doctors to not start excersizing till I got close to 100lbs off. Now that I am closing in on -75 I am just starting to walk. I am going to the local HS track in the morning 2 days a week. I just started today and I actually just got home a few minutes ago. My plan is to work into running at around 250 which is -104 for me. So 31 more pounds till I am allowed to run! Wahoo! I used to run long ago and I miss it terribly, not to mention the calories it burns. Sadly I am very out of shape 3/4 of a mile is all I got today, I am hoping for a full mile on Thursday. I only have about 30minutes of track time between dropping son off at school before and dropping daughter off at home after for her to get ready for school. This summer will be awesome because school will be out and I can go to the track anytime! Of course I will very likely be back in school so will have to work around that, but still

April 2006 Bandits' March Challenge
waterlily1072 replied to JulieNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yay, I did it! I walked 3/4 of a mile this morning and actually 50yrds of it were jogged, lol. I stopped to show my daughter how to stretch because she wanted to start running and I told her she'd better stretch first. By the time we'd finished with that, DH was way ahead of us. So we jogged to catch up, hehe. That track is nice and cushy but I don't want to push it too soon. We spent about 30 minutes and had to walk a bit to get to the track and back to the car. I feel great! I am soo tired though, I know I am gonna need to crash as soon as the adrenaline rush is over. I only got 2 hrs last night but I still got up. I am patting myself on the back for this. Cardio wise I was feeling pretty good, we stopped short of a mile because og my hip starting to twinge, it wasn't till we were halfway back to the car that I felt that I wasn't getting enough oxygen and was getting the athletes wheeze (athsma sp?). Now I get to rest up for a day then back at it on Thursday I am so glad that I had this surgery and that I have started to excersize again. My 13yr old step daughter is 5'2" and 185lbs, I really worry about her, I have spent the last 3 years trying to teach her to eat healthy but nothing has sunk in. Now all of a sudden she has started taking my size portions on her plate when she is with us and now she is choosing to walk with us in the morning too. -
Seems to me the question is do you feel that your marriage is based on love and friendship or sexual attraction? Men are visual creatures and sometimes a beautiful woman catches their eye, do they love you less because you are not the victoria secret model? Only if they are shallow. Either he loves you or he doesn't. If he loves you it is only normal for him to be attracted to the new healthier you! For one thing he will be turned on by the fact that you are more confident and feel sexier. I have to say that 70+ lbs has made a difference for my DH and me. We can do things we never could before and it's fun and exciting. I hope you find what you are looking for in your marriage and your weight loss, good luck
