I have only PB'd twice and am going on a year. I have slimed a few times as well. All but one of those episodes was from fast food or deli chicken! The kind that comes with the salads, all grilled and low-fat. The sliming was not fun but it wasn't terrible either, gross, but oh well. The PB was small and not as bad as what I had expected. The other PB was after my last fill. I underestimated my swelling and got a very soft tender piece of cauliflower stuck. I had to wretch 3 times to dislodge it. Go figure. Bottom line is that PB's are a part of the learning curve as you reach good restriction and learn your boundaries. Some people are naturally good at chewing really well and taking tiny bites and eating slow, but most of us have to learn through trial and error.

There is never a day when I can't get something down, but there are days when I can't eat more than a couple of bites and other days when I can eat my normal little meal just fine and even have room for more if I really wanted it. Those are the days I try and get as many veggies in as possible

When you eat are you eating solid protien and are you eating your protien first? Are you abstaining from fluids for 1hour after eating? If you are doing these things then I would go in and ask for a small fill and see how it goes. Can you eat bread? The first thing my fill nurse asks me is if I can eat bread, and if the answer is yes she gives me a fill. Good luck

Stomach flu scares me to death! I haven't had one yet (knock on wood) and avoid sick people as much as possible. The day one of my kids comes home puking I am calling for anti-nausea meds asap!

Whats the biggest weight loss myth you have ever heard?
waterlily1072 replied to She Smiles's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did a very different cabbage soup diet than the one you listed. All it was was cabbage soup! Nothing else except of course water. You could eat as much cabbage soup as you wanted. At the end of the week I had lost 12lbs spent half of each day on the toilet and was absolutely starving. I think it took 3-4 days to gain back every ounce I had lost, lol. -
I can't remember the title but there is one written by Jessie Ahroni that is wonderful. She is banded herself and has degrees up the ying yang on nutrition and health care. I'm lucky I don't need her book, she's my fill nurse

Do our bodies adapt by 6 months and then stall?
waterlily1072 replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I seem to stall at those weights that I spent some serious time at on the way up. I think it's just my body adjusting and redistributing it's stores, in order to be more efficient. It's frustrating as heck though! As for low carb, not everyone here is low carb. Many banded folks still eat healthy carbs. I know I take in over 100carbs a day, but they are complex not simple. For the most part I stay away from sugar and baked goods and I too stall. I think it's a normal occurance on any weight loss program. -
April 2006 Bandits' March Challenge
waterlily1072 replied to JulieNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Julie, I am so excited for you going in to surgery. I am hoping for a quick and easy recovery for you :bolt: Tomorrow is back to the track for me. I went off the wagon yesterday and ate around my band, but today was great! back to normal I know what you mean Betty, if I didn't have my band I could never have lost this weight, nor have any hope of losing any at all. Days like yesterday remind me of what it was like pre band. I always felt yucky and tired and sluggish. I think bad days can serve as a good reminder of where we never want to be ever again. Hopefully I didn't do too much damage to all my hard work. -
Wahoo Babygrl that is fabulous 4lbs!!! :clap2: I was really good today, got right back on track, and speaking of track, yay, tomorrow is Tuesday I get to go walking tomorrow :bolt: Which means I better hit the sack soon!

April 2006 Bandits' March Challenge
waterlily1072 replied to JulieNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
For a long time I thought I was a sprinter, but given time I discovered I was just a lazy long distancer. I discovered this not in track (you'd think so but not) I discovered it in PE class when after only 2 days of cross country training when everyone else was either in really good shape and breezing through or out of shape and dieing. I was chugging along and suddenly my stride and my breathing started working together in sync. It was then that I discovered that I was just a lazy long distance runner and not a sprinter, and the best part was no more shin splints -
I am adding All-Bran cereal to my morning meal and a snack of 8 almonds in the afternoon. We'll see how it goes. I had my once a month, binge last night, and now my head hurts. I shouldn't have but... Tortilla chips and cheese and oreo cookies. The cheese actually isn't that bad, but the chips are so bad as are the cookies. I proabably gained a whole pound, but I know from experience that pounds gained from a binge go away very quick when you get right back on track, so today is back on program and in a day or two there will be no trace of my indicscretion left, and who knows maybe it will kick start more weight loss? I can always be hopefull :guess

When I made the choice to get banded I personally knew people who had been banded and who had had RNY. The banded folkes looked great, they had energy and they looked healthy. The RNY folks looked weak and tired, they looked malnurished to me. I would love to have malabsorption weight loss, but I personally was not willing to risk my own health. I actually knew someone who died from direct complications of the RNY, he died within 3 days after surgery. The RNY just scares me. I still keep in the back of my mind to possibility of switching should anything happen to my band, and I think I would if I was not able to be rebanded.

Wow Delta that is fabulous! Congratulations, you met all of your goals -
That would be so much fun! Well I have some 26 dresses that are mail order that are really 24's. I bought them 12 years ago and they still have their tags. I have been monitoring them closely as easter approaches. They all 3 fit, but don't hang nicely yet. But the lavender one has faded badly and in wierd places through the years, so sadly it will never be worn, so my two contenders are the pink or the navy blue. We will see which one looks best as easter gets closer. I am positive that in 2 weeks they should fit perfect. Oh and that size 26 skirt i bought a while back is getting a little loose! Yay

I like the whole wheat melba toast, they are very crunchy and like all truly crunchy things dissolve to pure mush when chewed. They are low fat and low cal, great for weight loss

April 2006 Bandits' March Challenge

Yeah, she still is in denial, maybe she always will be. I am shedding inches but not pounds and getting a bit frustrated. I totally had the munchies last night, something I haven't experienced for a while. I wasn't hungry, just felt the need to munch on something sweet. So I chose cheerios. My DH asked if I wanted to go to the store and buy one of my old favorites and I actually said no! I had no desire to eat chips or candy! I was perfectly satisfied to munch on a couple of cups worth of cheerios over the course of a couple of hours. Amazing. And it didn't mess up my total calories for the day! Tastes really do change. -
Well, I bought this jumper many years ago. I didn't try it on because I was sure it would fit, the size was right. What I didn't realize is that my size 28's were from an expensive store, where sizes tend to be a little more generous and this was a 26-28 from wal-mart. Needless to say it didn't fit right. It was tight over my hips and belly. Today I pulled it out and removed the tags and have it on! Yay I am finally wearing it. It was so super cute I've saved it all these years. Oh and I lost an inch off my hips now too, but no change in the scale. sigh. My body did this when I hit 300 too. It needs to redistribute the existing fat before it will drop pounds again. I guess I should be grateful that my body cares about being as symetrical as humanly possible. Let's hope it moves things around quickly. Like before I throw the scale through a window. Oh wait, my bathroom doesn't have windows, whew, the scale is safe..........FOR NOW! LOL

April 2006 Bandits' March Challenge

The story of the mom in the park reminds me of one of my mom's lifelong friends. They have known each other since the were like 10. When I was researching surgeons, I discovered that this friend lived next door to my surgeon of choice and that she hated him. My mom cautioned me that he was a jerk. I met with him and he was so super nice. I asked my mom why her friend hated him so much, so mom did some digging and found out that the friend had been approached by him and he had suggested that maybe she would like to consider wls to help with her weight problem. She was very offended. She doesn't consider herself fat. Granted she is easily 150lbs overweight and about 4'11". I guess my point is, some people don't see themselves accurately, they don't realize how overweight they are, or how out of control their life is, or how harmful their lifestyle is. All we can do is make ourselves healthy and support others on that same journey. -
That's awesome Mark, grats on coming so far so quickly :girl_hug: Libra, yay!!! As for me, the scale is now sitting even closer to the 70's, one light breeze will knock me over but alas it is a still day. I did however all of a sudden this morning notice that I look smaller. Now I measured myself like 5 days ago, so I thought it must be my imagination, but no, I have lost another 2" off of my waist!!! In less than a week. My body must be pausing here to redistribute. All I have to do is stick to plan and given time my body will have another huge drop in weight. Maybe I should up my calories to 1200? Right now I have been at 700-1000. Is it possible that that really isn't enough? What do you all think?
-
This is sad but most people are so self involved that they honestly don't notice someone elses situation. And family members and friends honestly see you for who you are not what size you are. I think they are oblivious rather than cruel. Also to some of them their 20lbs is as significant to them as our 200 is to us. Now if they are looking at me funny then I know what they are thinking and that is just plain rude, or worse saying something. I hate it when teenagers point and giggle. Ahh to be rid of these problmes. I think my feelings on this are the reason I can be supportive of low bmi bandsters. I know that there are those that get the band to lose 40lbs. I don't think it would have ever occured to me at that weight but to each their own. If they want to dish out the money, it's their body. And those 40lbs to them are as much an albatross to them as our excess is to us.

Left shoulder pain is from irritation to your diaphram. The diaphram doesn't have the ability to present pain within itself so it presents in the left shoulder. The band rubs against it during surgery as they put it in and later when you are swollen. I belive for most people the band often rests against the diaphram. A heating pad works great.

Umm, I thought that Michael Savage's father was Jewish and his mother Italian. That would make him very much a non WASP. And for the record his real last name is Weiner. (not positive I spelled it right)
-
Well I know from personal experience that it doesn't just happen from eating to much or even eating at all. It depends on your physiology. Good news is that most people don't continue to experience it after they've healed from surgery. I have a very developed diaphram muscle from years of singing and playing wind instruments so mine is probably larger than most thus making it much more likely to be irritated, at least that is my theory. But seriously If I excersise on an empty stomach it happens then too, simply because my breaths are so deep.

Stomach/Churning question....confused
waterlily1072 replied to hotpink_bubbles's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Digestion starts in the lower stomach as there are no digestive juices in the pouch. As for chewing, it really depends on the person the day and the amount of restriction. Some days I take tiny bites and some days I take what I consider to be normal bites (but compared to those around me they are still pretty small). On the normal bites I often get several swallows out of them. I am very cautious with chicken and rarely do normal bites of it unless I know exactly how my band is behaving at that moment and the chicken is fall apart tender and moist.
