OK so I have been working my way through a big canister of dutch chocolate protien shake. It was a very tasty one but had a fair number of carbsalong with the protien, but hey it was free. I don't like to eat in the am so I drink my morning meal. I have had another freebee on my shelf from who knows where anymore and I was looking forward to the change in flavor to strawberry. Well today was the day, the chocolate is gone, bring in the berry. OMHECK THAT WAS THE MOST DISGUSTING THING EVER!!!! I tried mixing it according to directions and it was super thick and nasty tasting and then I mixed it thin and it still tasted horrid. It kind of has a sour taste to it. Maybe it's gone bad or maybe it's always been bad. Either way, I ordered some new protien powder and it will get here hopefully within a week and it better be good!

Survived an emergency hemicolectomy and appendectomy after banding

Wow I am so glad you are ok! Did they say what could have caused it? -
Bwaydiva, you can absolutely make your own challenge if you need to! You may be surprised however at how quickly you can get to where you can take a 35 minute walk. When I first started excersizing my grandmother used to make me do 2 short walks a day and pretty soon I was up to 2 long walks! No one ever said you have to start out walking really fast either, just what you can do Ooh I almost forgot I hit the 70's wahoo!!! And am officially past the 75lb down mark. One century here I come PS Bwaydiva, the 11th is my 1yr bandiversary, it's a very good date

No babysitter, I am the step mom so we don't have them all the time. We see them off to school every morning and we see them on wednesday evenings and every other weekend. The oldest is 14 and the youngest is almost 8 and there are 5 of them!:faint: So it makes it easy to find time to excersise. For me the hardest thing is to not procrastinate because I do have so much free time. I spend way too much time on this computer everyday that's for sure The 2 youngest boys though are a handful! Creative and super high energy, they are all very good at keeping me frazzled. By bedtime I am begging for calgon to take me away, lol. I think tomorrow we are all going for a walk together, a nice healthy family activity. As long as it's not raining.

I am sorry to hear of your medical problems. You have no choice other than to move on from where you are. There is no room for regret, just follow doctor's orders and press on. We are here for you whenever you need us. You have definitely had it rough these last couple of weeks but soon it will be better So chin up. Hoping you are better soon -
Welcome Tracy I am going for the bronze this month! I am curious, does chasing my kids around the grocery store for 30minutes count? LOL, jk. Those are bonus calories

If you need a quick fix of something sweet, try atkins ice cream, I personally really like it and it has no sugar! Also good and only 150cal is a soft cone from mcdonalds. This is one of my favorite treats for myself, when everyone around me is eating something yummy that is way out of my calorie range I treat myself to something yummy for anywhere under 200cal. I also agree that low carb is not for everyone. It is only important that you eat enough protien, everything else can be whatever you want, fruit veggies the occasional desert. There are whole cookbooks devoted to sweets (including chacolates) that are for diabetics. They are sugar free and decadent!

Well as much as I appreciate my surgeon and his whole staff, I think I gave them enough when I handed them the check for 18k! But seriously, if you want to do something nice for them then go for it!

Stay away from the soft foods like Jello and cottage cheese. They will go through the stoma quickly and leave you feeling hungry. Also if that is deli turkey you are eating it is softer as well. Try eating non processed meats. Also log everything you eat at fitday or sparkpeople, both are free and will help you keep track of how many calories you are eating. Good luck and it will get easier Oh and if bread doesn't work for you try a low-fat whole wheat cracker or melba toast.

April 2006 Bandits' March Challenge
waterlily1072 replied to JulieNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Of course you can! Just keep training and working up your distance, the farther you run in your training the easier it will be. I think the serious marathons that are like 25 miles they only train to like 13 miles. Not sure that works with shorter distances though. -
Getting pregnant...
waterlily1072 replied to DonnaMarie's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I say if you want a baby go for it! You will be one year out from surgery and the badn isn't like RNY which has malnutrition issues. I don't see any reason why you can't have a baby then re fill the band and continue to lose. 31 is not old no, but you are right it's not young either. I would never put off having a child due to weight. Medical reasons yes but not for weight. Oh and congrats on getting married -
Well I think my DH and I both agree that it has just plain gone bad. It is well past it's expiration and I have had the runs all afternoon since having just a couple of sips. I ordered some cookies and creme flavored protien mix from bariatric eating. Supposedly they taste test everything they sell and if it isn't good they won't sell it. So I am giving it a go. A friend of mine has some of the cookies and creme from them and LOVES it. Meanwhile I have a whole week of no protien shakes :welldoneclap:. And I agree Jack, most strawberry flavored things are yuck to start with. But I do like strawberry ice cream (haven't had any in like a year but oh well) and I used to love my grandmothers homemade strawberry freezer jam. And a few other things my grandma made with berries, but I'm gonna stop with that whole mind thread before I go crazy and buy something I shouldn't.

April 2006 Bandits' March Challenge

Looks like you are nominated Boo :welldoneclap: I really like the levels of Achievement, it works for all fitness levels -
Hmm, the 4th is 11 weeks after tax day and Memorial day is 6 weeks after tax day. Then the next big landmark holiday is Labor day. The 4th seems to be well placed in the middle, I say let's go for it :welldoneclap: Oh and I think the scale may have dropped below 280 but I am waiting for a second day in a row before I believe it!

I do this sometimes if it is something that I feel won't go down right I will spit it out. I don't intentionally put something in my mouth that I know I'm gonna have to spit out but in the course of a meal if the meat is too grissely or something or the veggie to woody. My kids and DH thought it was gross at first but they are used to it now.

Could I be allergic to my lapband?
waterlily1072 replied to JerseyGirl50's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I asked my surgeon about this very issue before I let them band me. He said that the band is made out of the same material as joint replacements and that it was virtually impossible to be allergic to it. We come into contact with things everyday, in the grocrey store at the park, who knows what you may have touched that could have given you an allergic or viral rash. If it bothers you go to your doctor and have them check it, you may need some medicine for it. -
It could very well be muscle Also I think there are two kinds of losers (weight that is) one loses steady and their bodies adjust as they go. Others take sudden drops and then their bodies catch up. I am one of the latter I think. I watch my body as I lose and nothing changes then I stop losing lbs and start losing inches, then I go back to losing pounds. It can be very frustrating. I am seriously considering putting the scale away for a while, but am afraid if I do I won't have the accountability to it that I do now and could easily go off plan, maybe I'll try it for one week and see how it goes.

Some of it I can but the chicken is usually too tough and the beef is usually low quality, I end up chewing forever and spitting most of it out because it isn't fit for swallowing. I love the veggies I just eat around any celery. My all time favorite is general tsao's chicken, but it is 700calories per cup! I cannot jsutify that, no matter how hard I try. I usually get cashew chicken, it's mostly veggies and a little bit of chicken that is not deep fried and of course a few cashews

I think popcorn is one of those foods that goes down easy for just about everyone. If you get the lowfat micro popcorn a whole bag is around 200cal or you can get the 100 calorie bags. Just stay away from the high fat popcorns out there and enjoy

April 2006 Bandits' March Challenge
waterlily1072 replied to JulieNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well after no sleep Monday night, tuesday early morning was out and I can't handle the cement so I jogged and high stepped in my own living room for the same amount of time as it would have taken me at the track! I did it barefoot though and my hip and back and knees were saying "hey put you good tennies on next time!!!" LOL. SO if I ever have to do it in my living room again it will be in my tennies I have very special shoes for walking and a second pair for running, complicated I know. The walking ones work for jogging though just not actual running, the toes don't flex enough. And yes BOO the arches are stiff as can be! Hehe, no wonder my back and other joint never hurt when I wear them I am so glad everyone seems to be mending so nicely. I would love to hear from Julie and I hope Blue checks in with us soon too! -
I didn't mean that ability to eat bread is the single factor in determinig good restriction. Just that most (not all) bandsters when they reach good restriction can't. If I went in and was having other signs of being plenty tight enough they would not give me more fill, nor should they based on bread intake alone.

Nothing to report this week.
