    Scale Victory

Yay, congrats  That was a big day for me too, I know weigh a good 20lbs less than him, but my DH is a big guy so that's not hard to do

    Be Honest....

I know enough to walk the er doc through the unfill! Most of us should, we know non-coring needle and we know where our port is located, and we should know that by lying flat and lifting our legs any medical provider should be able to find it and access it unless it is flipped (a diffrent matter entirely then) I would never condone someone filling or unfilling themselves without direct permission from their surgeon! It is quite possible that your doc may fire you as a patient for doing this!

    APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

Yay on the excersize Sheila you are doing great. As for your Mom and her friends, if you know you are making the right choice for you then ignore them. I truly wish I had had the opportunity to do this 14 yrs ago (not sure it existed yet) My life would have been so different in a positive way. This surgery does not have to be permanent, you can easily reverse it if desired (not sure why you'd want to...) Julie yay for clean hair! It does make ya feel soo much better. Rootin for that shower Betty, thanks for the definition  I have 1 week and 1 day till my bandiversary, I can't believe it! I need to come up with a celebratory activity, some sort of reward that is NOT food related, lol. I can't believe it's been a year! The time has really flown by. If I lose 2 lbs this week I will have lost 80lbs in my first year. Not too shabby, not stellar but then it took me 10 months to get to my sweet spot  (VG band)

    Heartburn

heartburn isn't necesarily an indicator that something is wrong. While most banded folks don't experience it some do. Certain foods always affect me no matter what, like garlic, but I love garlic so on days when I eat it I take an antacid, no big deal. I only have a small list of offenders but the only one I eat often anyway is garlic

    Why Not Gastric Bypass?

the #1 reason I chose the band is the super high mortality rate of bypass. I'm sorry but 1 in 200 is NOT acceptable! That percentage doesn't even take into account those who end up on cholostemy bags for life because they cannot conrtol their bowels at all. I have known people that these things have happened to. Their are major complications that can occur anywhere from immediately to 2-3 or more years down the line that they never seem to tell you about. I have learned about many of them from friends who have experienced them. I know the odds from their doctors.

    Road to "TWOterville"

Welcome back Marquita and you and Jusme are both doing great! I want so bad to figure my 4th of July goal, but it is difficult until I know exactly where I end up with this challenge, lol. I am thinking it is going to be a goal of my century mark but we will see

    APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

Tracy you are so not the only one not chewing! I'm not either, lol. Dang pill! :angry Good news is that I am on to mushies, yay :clap2: Maybe tomorrow that leftover pot roast will still be in the fridge Julie, I am so glad you seem to be healing so well, you are an inspiration! Kat I am so jealous, I haven't been on a horse in too many years, our farm was a crop farm so notmuch opportunity, I was always told that they were not gonna waste valuable crop acreage on a horse, so I could have one of my own Mean parents and grandparents, lol. You are so right, watching a calf come into this world is so neat, I have actually helped in a couple of difficult births when over at a friends house (they were dairy farmers) Betty I just have to ask in all my ignorance but what is NIA? Well as soon as I finish my yogurt I am lacing up my tennies and going for a walk! Have a great day everyone
  11. That greatly depends on the individual, the size of their band, the thickness of their stomach wall and the size of the chunks they are swallowing. If you were to forget to chew well and swallowed a decent sized chunk of hot dog for example you could easily get stuck even with no fill. It is imperritive to chew chew chew and take tiny bites even before you have any restriction.

    APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

I am so excited! This week is Spring Break!!! That means that I can go to the local hs track anytime of the day!!! I am not dependant on my husband to escort me for safety during the day, it's pretty creepy in the dark hours of the early morning. I so want to go every day!!! I think I just might if my body will let me. I've got to get to work. I have a steep weight loss goal, I want to hit my century mark by summer. Once school starts again I am going to contact the school and see if I can get permission to use the track during school hours. It will only be a couple of months till summer break and it will be all mine for the summer :girl_hug:

    I want my cake....

I'm having one of those days where I want to have my cake and eat it too. I went searching for protien info and ended up looking at before and after photos of rny patients. I looked at them and said to myself I could be at goal right now if I had chosen RNY. But that surgery scares the begeebees outa me. Why can't I have the safety and healthiness of the band but the super fast waightloss of rny? Just feeling sorry for myself wishing I could wish away all the years of fat that I piled on to my poor body. I know that in another year I will be at the very least at my surgeons goal for me and close to my own goal, but it doesn't stop me from wanting it now! OK I'm done venting. I really do love my band and I am glad that I chose it, I'm just impatient :bored

    Sugar Alcohols.. Yay or Nay?

It is my understanding that the brown fat on the liver is the first fat your body burns when starting to lose weight. It doesn't matter how you lose the weight just that you do. Many surgeons like the liquid diets for whatever reason but not all do that. I merely had to lose 10lbs in the 2weeks prior to surgery (actually just had to do my best). At his request I stuck to an 800cal per day diet. Let me tell you pre band that is hard! I was so hungry, but I didn't want to risk surgery being more difficult because of my fatty liver so I did it. I fyou can eat sugar alcohols and still lose what your surgeon wants you to then go for it, unless he tells you not to for some reason.

    Road to "TWOterville"

Yup hot cocoa eventually helped it go through. And today I stick to liquids till dinner when I had a tiny bit of chili 1/4 cup and I was full! I am still tight. Maybe by tomorrow it will be better. One thing is for sure yesterday even yogurt hurt to eat :girl_hug:. I tend to stay swollen for quite a while so I will probably do mainly liquids and a little mushies for the next couple of days. When I can eat a whole cup of mushies and be fine then I can add solids safely. I don't want to risk a dialated pouch or a slip, it's just not worth it. Oh and because the chili went down comfortably I am assuming that nothing is stuck just swollen.

    I want my cake....

Yeah, we did make the right choice. My DH reminded me that if I had chosen RNY that it is very possible that I could be dead right now! And he is right. The mortality rate of that surgery is frightening. I have done well, and if I stay on track I can be at goal in as little as one year. We all know how fast this first year went I am sure I second year will breeze by too. I am just ready to be thin now, sigh. One thing is for sure by the 4th of July I want to be on the 100lb+ thread! And I will run as many laps as it takes to get there!

    APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

Yay Julie, I am so glad you're back! And doubly glad that surgery went well :girl_hug: Tracey you can do it, the pre-op is difficult but I have faith in you Sheila, I didn't excersise today either, it's Sunday! It's a day off in our house. I won't even cook on Sundays, open a can and heat it up is all. And for the record I loved Napolean Dynamite! After several attempts to eat yesterday, I wasn't able to get anything down with serious discomfort. So today I did total liquids till dinner at which time I managed to get 1/4 cup of chili in me before I was very full. Not sure why I am suddenly so tight but I am going to assume it's temporary and stick mainly to liquids.

    Road to "TWOterville"

grats babygrl  you are doing great! LapBandit, it is not dorky at all, I think it's nice. As for me, I had a bad spell with a pill last night and now today everything hurts to eat, slimed once, no PB's. I think it's liquids for me for a few days. I swell so easy. I am gonna have to get my hubby to pick me up some rtd protien shakes from the store. I do love the atkins shakes. What a time to run out of protein! Anyway, it was hard to even eat yogurt tonight so it's definitely liquids. Does anyone think it's possible I have something lodged in the stoma? I'd think if I did I'd be PB'ing like crazy.
  19. OK here are my befores at 354lbs and my current in progress at 278 just had to see them side by side. We are gonna try and take some better ones outside tomorrow.
  20. waterlily1072

    Ritz crackers

My surgeons definition of liquid was anything you can suck through a straw.
  21. waterlily1072

    Rubber Girdle

All it will provide is temporary redistribution of your bodily fluids in that area, aka water retention. It's just like a spa wrap, temporarily reduces inches, except a trip to the spa is a lot more fun!
  22. waterlily1072

    Gaining...

And mushies tend to be very high in calories. Many people gain during the healing phase it's ok

    APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

LOL, yeah, I don't think naked bike riding is a Pope approved activity. I am so tight today, one of my pills went down wrong last night, I think I'm swollen And I am about to pull a lovely pot roast out of the crock. Sigh, maybe there will be leftovers for tomorrow.
  24. I disagree about the not enough water thing. Not everyone who is constipated needs to drink more water. There are different reasons for constipation. I drink way more water when I am eating healthy than when I am living on junk, but with junk I don't get constipated. When I drink plenty of water and eat healthy then I always get constipated. My body has been doing this since I was 9. I can drink over a gallon of water everyday and still be constipated, I know I've done it. I have tried everything. I even started smoking at age 27 in an attempt to regulate myself (dumb I know, and yes I quit a long time ago). I will say this and that is that if you haven't had a bowel movement in 3 days you need to take some milk of mag or some other laxative, it isn't normal, not to have any!

    Bad shake

Yes it is matrix brand. I do like sweet so that shouldn't be a problem I will definitely try the chocolate sometime soon too. I hear it makes really good hot cocoa. Has anyone tried their mixer bottle?
