    Road to "TWOterville"

Where is everyone? Are we all ready for the final stretch of our challenge? We have one week from today at the longest (for those of us taking advantage of tax day being the 17th this year ) I did asess the damage this morning and it isn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be. I back slid 2lbs but I can make that up this week if I am super good to get to at least the 80lbs lost mark. I was at 79 now I'm at 77. I can and will lose 3lbs this week!
  2. No matter how much we love our parents and no matter how much they love us, we are all human and we all have difficulties at times with decisions and issues. Obviously your mom has some sort of issue or fear regarding you having this surgery that she cannot find a way to express any other way than by saying mean things that she hopes will make you change your mind. If you can't handle her issues right now then step away and put some distance between you letting her know why. If you feel strong enough to, sit down with her and ask her to communicate with you her feelings in real words and in sentances starting with I. She needs some help communicating her feelings to you about this surgery. If it were me I would try to help her with that, and make her follow the communication format you set forth, no accusations, no name calling, no negative remarks, just feelings, her feelings. Good luck

    APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

Betty that sounds like a wonderful afternoon Boo grats on the new time record!!! My indulgences are over. As much as I enjoyed them, my body hates me right now for eating so many bad things like fried foods and sugar, I feel yuck! I can't wait for this icky feeling to leave and to feel good again! Maybe by morning I will feel a bit better.
  4. Well I voted dieting tool but that isn't completely accurate. I am one year out and it is really both a dieting tool and a lifestyle change. I don't count my calories everyday and I still have things that I've always loved. I count my protien more than anything to make sure I'm not shorting myself of what I need. But I didn't have my surgery to just eat less I got it to lose my excess weight.

    Road to "TWOterville"

Ahh no easter candy in this house this year. It was their mom's turn this go around so we got out of the candy duty. Well my long weekend of no calorie counting is over and I am not getting on the scale till the 17th, lol. We had a lot of fun but as good as the food was I'm honestly not sure it was worth it. I am still full from dinner! I am going to do a protien shake fast for a day or two to cleanse my system of all the crap I ate. I will know when it's time to eat food again. I guess I will never be able to celebrate the way I used to. There was so much food and I couldn't eaven make a dent in it and I still ate way too much. It took me a couple of hours to do it but I did Picking myself up from the floor and dusting myself off and climbing back onto the wagon. Someone remind me next time of how crappy I feel right now at this moment. Uggh, I hate the feeling of having too much food in me, it is a sensation I am not used to anymore and I don't like it.

Happy Easter!!! Oh liz, I have days and weeks like that too sometimes. I wish I didn't but I do, I usually end up with such a horrible headache from all the sugar that it takes a long while to forget how gross I feel and do it again. But good for you getting back on track that's what it's all about Tann please join us  we don't start our new challenge till the 17th but that's ok OK so we went out to the Outback and I had some of their fried mushrooms for an appetizer and had the salmon for dinner yumm :hungry: I caved on the cake though and tomorrow is our anniversary so I am not counting calories again until Tuesday!

    Protien Absorption

I idd know that and I love V-8 juice but I do have a sensitive stomach to acids so am afraid to try it. I'm one of those that everytime I have something with a lot of tomato or garlic or even one bite of bacon i get heartburn, no other time just then. Maybe I should try it and just take a pepcid and have it over with, lol.

    Protien Absorption

I wanted to share this for others who may be searching for answers to this. OK so this whole protien absorption thing has been plaguing my mind lately. There seems to be different opinions out there. I went searching on the internet and the only site I could find that discuss it are body builder sites not medical or bariatric. So I spoke to a friend of mine who is a food scientist today. He actually specializes in protien supplements for bariatric patients! For what it is worth he says that most protien is absorbed when the food is in your stomach although the intestines absorb as well not nearly as much. He doesn't know of any specific amount of protien that is too much but says the body will absorb what it needs and get rid of the rest as fecal matter. Now if you are eating huge amounts of calories the excess calories will be stored as fat, but whether it is the carbs the protien or the fat that gets stored first it is easiest to store the carbs so they would likely be first. So if you ate 5,000 calories of protien a day and no carbs much of that would be stored as fat but if you ate 1,000 cal of protien none of it would be stored as fat even if it was 200+g of protien I hope that makes sense the way I wrote it. There will probably continue to be differences of opinion on this but I now have peace of mind about it. Oh and next time I see my surgeon I am asking him too

    Bile in nose and lungs..help!

I am so sorry you are going through this you really need to talk to your surgeon, they need to take care of your right away. It sounds as if you are aspirating and that can be very serious. Please take care.

    What have I done?

Grats on being banded What you are feeling is very common. Many bandsters wonder what they have done in the few weeks after surgery. I know it doesn't make it any easier right now, but know that you are not alone, we are all here for you

    Protien Absorption

Jack, you are the coolest!!! Thanks to all of you who are trying to make this difficult concept accessible, I really do appreciate it. My whole reason for liking to get about half of my days protien in the form of a shake is so that I have room in my little pouch for things like veggies! I try and eat one mostly veggie meal per day it may not actually be enough of them but it makes me feel better

    APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

Well I hate to say she neglects them because I know how hard it must be to be a single mom with 5 kids. But she is the one who wanted a divorce so she could persue someone else, sigh. I try so hard to not judge her but let me tell you it is hard. We want custody but we need to get our finances straight before we have any hope of that happening. So for now we just help them as much as we can. I am planning on contacting his teacher and seeing what we can do. He never should have been passed from kindergarten and here he is in second grade still struggling with some of the basics that he should have learned there. I am going to dig as deep as I can manage without drawing her wrath, if I have to I'll sick my DH on her! That always works All my doctors have ever done is put me on the pill for my period and I hate taking pills, I only take the ones that are absolutely necessary, and as bad as AF seems this time around I know it will stop eventually and then I'll probably go 6 months without and for that I will be truly greatful My mom lost her uterus by 32 and I'm 34 so I figure with my issues it won't be much longer anyway, hehe.
  16. I don't think so. I sometimes eat faster than other times, but I measure my food before I sit down to eat and I know immediately when I am done even if there is food left on my plate. Some foods I have to eat slow and some days I have to, then other times I don't find it necessary. I think the most important thing is to listen to your body.

    APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

Uggh, AF keeps coming back every other day. I am serious I lost a pound of blood this afternoon! We weren't able to go to the movie after dinner because of it either All I have to say is I better have a good weigh in on tuesday or i am gonna be peeved! As for my little son, there are so many possibilities. His teachers have suggested we test him for adhd because he has such a hard time focusing and sitting still. He forgets he was going to his room to get his coat by the time he get's there. He is very bright and artistic just very unfocused. The divorce hit when he was only 3 so that could have an impact too.

    Protien Absorption

Well this initially started as a search to find out if it was worth it to buy protien shakes that have 30g+ of protien in them. I am still not fully satisfied that say those 3oz shots of 42g of protien are a waste. I would love some real answers backed up by medical websites that are in plain english as to whether the body can use 42g of protien in one meal what is the magic number? Obviously obsene amounts of protien are a big mistake. But if we are supposed to have 60-80g a day why not have it all at once or in two meals? It seems to me that nomatter what it is calories in the end that determine weight gain or loss. Eating enough protien prevents our body from burning muscle eating too much protien can lead to other health problems like gout. We all know what a healthy per day total is for us from our nutritionists if no one else. But it still begs the question of how much can be absorbed from one meal. If it truly absorbs all the way through the intestines then it would be in our system for what like 24hr's? It seems that in that time it would make the argument moot whether a 42g shot of protien is a waste or not. I am not trying to be argumentative. I am just frustrated at the lack of solid information I have been able to find via the internet. Every source seems to disagree and most of the sources I have seen on the internet are body building sites and I'm sorry but I don't believe their info is necessarily correct for the general public at least. I just want real answers that are backed up by something that is written in lay language so that I can follow it. Jack I love you but with all your technical talk you lose me, I was a music major not a science major.

    APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

Happy Bandiversary Betty Congratulations on a great 5K time Boo :girl_hug: Tracey that is so wonderful. Isn't it great to get outside and play with our kids? And yay for your little tike who has learned how to ride his bike! I am worried about my youngest boy. He is about to turn 8. He lives with his mom most of the time so his time with his dad and me is a bit limited. We do see them off to school every morning but we don't get to do the after school and bedtime reading and helping him learn basic things that his mom is I guess too busy for. He is just starting to read thanks to a lot of effort by my DH and I. We sit down and make him read with us. He hates to read and is doing so badly in school they are talking about holding him back. Today when he signed his name to his dad's birthday card he wrote it backwards, so instead of Quinn he wrote nnuiQ he started with the Q and moved back instead of forwards. This puzzles me, is he dislexic? His mom refuses to have the kids tested for anything! If we want the kids to go to the doctor for anything like wart removals and such we have to make the appointments and take them. It would be helpful if any of you ladies with experience with raising kids could tell me if his writing backwards is normal it would really help me know what to do for him.

BigThunder I think you are doing great! As for the protien absorption I have searched everywhere for the truth in that theory and have found none. It seems to be a body builder thing based on old types of protien supplements. Solid protien continues to absorb during it's entire trip through our intestines as does all food which is about 24-36 hours. You don't need to go straight to bandster amounts yet you aren't banded yet! Just follow your nutritionists instructions as best you can remembering that you are human!

    What Keeps You Full/Satisfied?

Once you have good restriction you will stop feeling hungry all the time. Many days I forget to eat till my DH comes home and asks what's for dinner! As for foods that fill you up and stick with you, the more solid the better but my fave is 2 tbls tuna mixed with mayo and a little ff italian dressing on two pieces of melba toast. It fills me up fast and stays with me for hours. If I do get hungry between meals I will eat a melba piece and be just fine.

Banded 4/3 and going out for SIL's BD

That's interesting about no milk my surgeon tells 16oz of milk each day and that is supposed to be our only liquid calories. I choose yogurt instead though and only have one, I'm such a rebel, lol. And yes shakes are super high in sugar, but I was told that during the first 2 weeks I could have anything that I could suck through a straw and that while he didn't want me to have a shake a day that I could have one if I wanted because I wa in the healing phase. He wasn't concerned about weight loss yet. If worse comes to worse they can always bring you some herbal tea, they might even have broth.
