I've read a couple of studies that show that the sub lingual B12 is just as effective as the shots. It makes me wonder why they aren't used more, then. Maybe it's a way to get more office visits in (and paid for).

Hello Mrs. C and welcome. Congratulations on your decision to get banded. A new adventure begins.
-
Ok, put me down for the 8 lb club as well. That seems like a nice and achievable goal. Leila, my husband and I lived and travelled across country for six months in our pickup truck with a plywood canopy on the back. It was in our carefree youth in the early '70's. I loved it though I wouldn't care to do that now. We still get itchy feet occasionally, though, and want to pack up and move somewhere totally different. We did that often until we had a child so now we're staying put while he's in school. (It's also hell on business to start from scratch every few years.) Good luck with your house offer.

And this is considered acceptable forum behaviour?
-
So let me get this straight. If someone doesn't like a thread they will try to kill it rather than ignore it, is that right?

Does doing this calm a heated situation down?

Could someone please explain to me what the intention of all the cheese inanity is? I don't understand what you are trying to do here.

Dr Leung won't do fills for pts who had their bands done by other Drs.
-
Hi there, I live on Vancouver Island and I, like you, was banded in Mexico. I just got a fill a couple of weeks ago from Dr. Woodhead in Ladner. That's in Delta, which is, I guess about a 20 min drive from the border. I believe that he may be the only one who will do fills for other drs patients. He charges $400 dollars for a consultation and the first fill and $75 per fill thereafter, and he doesn't use fluoroscopy. My friend Jane and I went together for our first fills. My experience was alright, however Jane's was quite different. I wish I had stayed in there with her. I can give details if you're interested. You also may want to look into Kitty Carmichael in Arlington Washington 360 435 5365. I believe she is very reasonably priced. Doesn't have the initial consultation fee. Hope this helps.

Good Luck to you Janelle! Remember to chew well when you return to solids. It will feel good to move off your plateau.

Looking for a Doctor in the West!

Hi Andree, see my reply to your other post. -
Hi Andree and congratulations on your decision. There are two drs in the Vancouver area who do banding and and I believe the price is more like $13,500. They are: Dr Leung in Surrey (I think it may be Richmond) 604 581 2515 Dr Woodhead in Ladner 604 946 6500 I had my surgery in Mexico and Dr Woodhead is doing my fills. That was absolutely the cheapest option for me but as you will read on this forum the price isn't the only thing to consider. Please feel free to PM me with any questions. All the best.

Doing something you really like, that excites and inspires you means you'll never have that "Aw nuts, it's Monday morning" feeling ever again. Isn't that wonderful? Congratulations and knock 'em dead!

Hi Sally, congratulations on your decision. If you read on this forum about the shoulder pain, you'll see that everyone's different. My friend Jane and I were banded at the same time and she had no pain whatsoever whereas mine lasted almost a week. Referred pain is a funny thing, sometimes pain meds don't work but often other sensory input will, so this is where hot packs, cold packs, rubbing and massage comes in. It's all so individual. Have everything ready just in case. All the best with your surgery on Tuesday.

Vegge, I would hate to think that that is the case, but the older I get the more I realize that there are some people out there that just can't see the true person beyond the excess weight. It's sad and frustrating but I believe it to be true. A couple I have known for years love and respect me. However, I would always come home annoyed and frustrated from any party or dinner they had where they had invited other guests as well. I often felt ignored and disregarded. One day the husband told my husband that his shallow friends could not see beyond my weight and regarded me as almost a non person. It was a surprise and an eye opener for me. As you can imagine I stopped bothering to go. Fortunately I have always been able to attract good and true friends. And the world does indeed have more good people out there than the others. We all just have to find them and make them part of our lives.

A few years ago someone told me that horse chestnuts will keep spiders away. Our old house was full of spiders of every shape and description, so when I happened to see some kids selling chestnuts by the roadside I bought 2 paper lunchbags full. Right after that our son became very ill and I ended spending several months in the hospital with him. It took me awhile to notice the absence of spiders, but I couldn't remember what I did with the nuts. During that time I did no housecleaning and I don't normally leave bags of things on my kitchen floor for months, however that's where one of the bags was. The other was in the basement. Our place was virtually spider free for 2 years! They're coming back again now, so I plan to get more chestnuts when they start falling. Someone also told me that if they have holes drilled in them they're even more effective.

I've been camping and working the odd day so I've only been home briefly and haven't kept up with the Junbie news. My news is that I went to the mainland and had a fill. I could feel restriction immediately. I've had a few minor pb's, I think mainly because I got careless about chewing pre-fill and have had to relearn. I also have lost some more despite eating the odd bit of junky stuff while out at the lake. So I'm down 40lbs from my high weight one month preop. And my pants are falling down! Thread news, has it been decided where our first year get together is going to be? Is the voting still on, or did I miss it? And how do I vote, do I PM somebody?

Want To Hear About Your "smooth" Post-up Recovery

Wheetsin, that's hilarious. -
Regina, wow. You look great. You must feel good, too. I'm thinking about your jealous friends. Many times in my life before I made positive changes backed by committment it seems that I had to get to a real low point before I could muster up the inner resources to do it. Maybe you will be a catalyst for their own turning points, but they're just not quite there yet.

Congratulations, Nana, a new adventure is about to begin. I went back to school at 29, too, for seven years. At a low point about halfway through my first year I was bellyaching to my sister about how I was going to be 36 by the time I was finished, and she said to me "You're going to be that old anyway, what do you want to be doing then?" That sustained me through any further low periods, and I have absolutely no regrets. So remember that if you ever feel like giving up, the time passes no matter what you are doing.

Welcome back, Lisa, you've been missed.

Donna, good luck with all this. We had our son "late", that is when we were both 40. We have more patience than when we were younger and a little less energy. But remember it's the love that counts. Biological or adopted, your child is your child and I know that you will love it to bits. We wouldn't feel any different about our son if he had been dropped on our doorstep by martians. My one question in all this is why is the concerned agency separating the siblings? I think that's fairly unusual. This may be another aspect of the adoption you may want to consider, whether you want to or are required to maintain sibling contact.

Hi Kim. I was planning to go down alone when a girlfriend (the only person other than my husband and son that I told) decided that she wanted it done, too. However nice it was to have her there, it would have been fine on my own. From what I've read here all the Mex drs take good care of their patients, picking them up from the airport, taking them to the hotel, even checking up on them at the hotel etc. You'll be fine. Your courage is in the decision to get banded. Congratulations!

Yup, me too, older than dirt. The hair wax one got me.
