I'm wondering what people do to ease the symptoms of dumping? I know it's best to avoid, but it happens and when it happens, I feel like I MUST eat. Low blood sugar and my body wants to fix it. Should I eat and if so what? Anything anyone found to help? RNY 14 months out.

My work is going to get teriyaki tomorrow. What in the world can I eat from there?

I am almost two week post op band to bypass revision. Never nauseous. I can drink gulps with no problem. No restriction at all. Jello - could eat multiple servings. Is something wrong?

post surgery menstrual period (sorry to the guys)
aferrenberg replied to dhall111's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once my band started working (took a while cuz I had a port leak and had to have it replaced), I went 6-7 weeks without a period and then it was really light. -
Hi all, I've been banded since November, but had to go through a port replacement so I am just NOW starting to understanding restriction. I've seen good results where I am finally beginning to lose some weight. But, I find that my calorie intake is so low that exercising (I do curves right now) is just sooooo hard..... I know, eat Protein and I do, but its a struggle. Anyone else in the same boat?

I think I am probably averaging 1000-1200. I'll track for a couple of days to make sure.

Here's my short story: I was banded on 11/13. Went through bandster hell and then first fill was 12/23 of 3cc. Not a lot of restriction. Went back in, they put in another 1.5cc. Had a hard time swallowing the Water, so they took out .5cc. Went along OK for a week or so, then felt I needed more, so went in for another .5cc and a week later another .5 cc. (So total of 5cc). During all this time, I was feeling restriction, a few things were getting stuck and I threw up 2 times, but I was still eating fairly large portions. I lost about 1 lb each week. But, after the last fill, it all changed. All of a sudden no restriction. Felt like I didn't have a band. I could eat all I wanted, didn't have to chew good, nothing ever gets stuck. I SHOULD MENTION THAT I HAVE A VERY TRICKY PORT and it sometimes flips over and filling is difficult. So I went back and told the PA this. She thought that maybe she dinged the tubing because of the hard time filing, so she dug around and finally got into my port again and she pulled out all the Fluid (i.e. there wasn't a leak) and then put it back in plus another 1cc. Total 6cc. Still no change. No restriction. Today at lunch I had 4 (small) pieces of pizza. When I had a fill of 4cc, I could never do that. Any idea what could be going on. I have an appt with the surgeon this Friday? Erosion? Slip? Any thoughts appreciated, Andrea Any idea

I have lost about 26 pounds (including pre-surgery diet). I went to the doc last Friday and he was only able to get 3 cc's out. I was freaking out thinking that I must have a leak. He put back in 5 cc's. This fill was totally different than other ones... when he was pushing it in, I could feel the liquid all the way up in my esophogaus, gurgling. On my previous fills with the PA, I never felt that. So I'm thinking that she was NOT filling me right. I have more restriction now (I think), but I can still eat quite a bit. I go back in tomorrow and I'm curious to see if I still have 5cc's in my band. I hope so and I hope he puts in another one or two.

yeah, I know. pizza is my worst enemy and I am a bonefide food addict. That's why I got the band to begin with, as a tool to help me fight my food addiction. I know that I shouldn't have eaten the pizza, but I was kinda testing my band... I wanted to see if I truly had no restriction. And, in all honesty, I caved. Anyway, I promised not to let myself feel guilty when I mess up. I have an appt. with the surgeon on Friday. It just all seems so odd to me... to have restriction at 4cc, but no restriction at 6cc.

I thought maybe it was just fickle too, but I've lost ALL restriction... like I've not been banded. I went from PBing on a couple bites of Pasta salad to eating 4 pieces of pizza!! I can't help but think that something must be wrong. I've read that erosion can kinda have these kinda symptoms, so I'm worried.

I also have UHC insurance and I was banded on 11/13. Approval was fairly easy. It took 3 weeks for them to answer. If your policy does not have an exclusion for bariatric surgery and your bmi is over 40, I'd think you have a great chance of approval.

Band put it on 11/13/08. First fill on 12/23 to 3cc. I can still eat quite a bit (I had two pieces of pizza the other day and ate Christmas dinner quite well), but things are getting stuck and ouch it is so painful. Severe pain in chest.... Not sure what this means.... Do I need another fill since I can eat quite a bit? Is that going to make me get "stuck" more?

First Fill - OUCH! - Getting Stuck
aferrenberg replied to aferrenberg's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor did not give me any post-fill diet. Just said to eat healthy, etc.... I think I have been chewing well... but I guess I could probably do a little better. I admit to not eating perfectly healthy (over the holidays I had a real hard time - I'm a food addict), but I real don't have much restriction. As long as I can handle the stuck feeling, I can eat quite a bit. And if its something I don't get stuck on, I can eat more. So, do I need a fill? I made an appt for this Tuesday to go in... I think I do need a fill because I definitely am not have the restriction I need to lose weight. Thoughts? -
Lexapro 10 mg?in band
aferrenberg replied to misslonglegs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take 20 mg of Lexapro a day and have been taking it for 8 years. I even lost over 100 lbs on WW while I was taking Lexapro. So I can't say for sure that it causes me to gain weight or makes it impossible to lose. I was banded on 11/13 and am down about 20 lbs. I have my first fill on 12/23 ... can't wait cuz right now I have no restriction and am keeping off what I've lost by sheer will power. -
I was banded on 11/13. Problem is, I have no idea where my port is. Is it under an incision? Reason I ask.... I have been having pain in my right side, when I twist or move and it is excrutiating for about 5 seconds, then goes away. When I press down there, I feel a hard lump somewhat deep down. Is that my port or do I have a hernia?

Batestami, I am in pretty much in the same boat. I had surgery on 11/13. Since that date, I have lost about 12 lbs. I'm hungry and I can pretty much eat anything. I've gone back to counting calories (I use fitday.com to keep track of my calories) and am trying to get under 1100-1200 calories a day. Its very frustrating as I see people losing lots more. I don't get a fill until 12/23. I certainly hope that makes a big difference, otherwise, I worry that the lapband was worthless.

I'm new and scheduled for surgery on 11/13. My doctor did not really give me any specific instructions for a pre-op diet, just that I should try to lose 10 lbs before surgery. He suggested trying South Beach Diet. Right now, I am doing Atkins and have lost 3lbs. How many pounds did you lose before surgery and HOW?
