I have been involved from the Dr. Kuri end of this dissolusion. Suffice it to say that greed got in the way. It was not a good break in any way. I am scheduleing plastic surgery for sometime in September and I am making it clear to whatever surgeon that I choose that I will not pay a dime for the involvement of Belite in any way, shape, or form. It is my opinion that the reason these surgeries have gone up so in price is that you are paying for a middleman that in my case did nothing but collect their portion. I have no interest in their ethics nor their help, using the term loosely, at all. There comes a time when you have to stand up for what you believe in and in my book what they did to Dr. Kuri was wrong.

My surgery with Dr. Kuri cost $ 8,900.00. This does not include airfare, but I live a little over one hour from TJ. The hospital is brand new and does have emergency facilities onsite. Their new van picks you up at the border. I stayed at the hospital 2 nights for no additional charge and it was very very nice, just like a nice hotel room. Large showers with glass doors, dvd player in each room, room for a visitor to stay with you. Great experience for me and I was afraid of the Mexico experience. Dr. Kuri does fills for free but the flouro is $95, not bad as far as I am concerned. My friend was banded at the same time as me and she has nothing but good to say about Dr. Kuri, his staff, the nurses at the hospital, and the hospital. Also, the follow up care and fills. Good Luck Elaine

Going for my second revision!!

Hi Steve, congratulations on your upcoming banding date. I was banded on 4/10/06. I had my surgery with Dr. Kuri, in TJ, Mexico. What a great experience it was. I am also on his board which is only open to his patients. It is my understanding that the first 8 weeks post op is very important so that the healing process can be complete. I also have learned that the band slippage is a very small percentage. Make sure that you do everything the Dr. tells you during your recoup period. I have been very careful not to pick up over ten pounds. And I am less concerned about how much weight I lose during this time than I am about the healing process. I have lost 20lbs so I am doing fine. I will be going for my first fill on June 17. Who is doing your surgery? Elaine -
I have not had my first fill yet but I would definately have just a bit removed to see if you can be more comfortable. I don't think that the idea for the band is to be miserable. Good luck and let us know what you decide. Elaine

So sorry to hear that you are having these problems but I think you are right, this may be a blessing in disquise for you. Get yourself healthy enough for the banding and then go for it. It will change your life for the better. Prayers are with you. Elaine

I have been to Crispy Creme several times. The last time I went I threw the donut away. However, when the one opened new my house we used to go on Saturday mornings and as you say you could see the donuts rolling off of the fryer and yes, they are yummy, only when they are hot and fresh. Cold, I don't think so. But now that I am banded, I would'nt even have one either way.

Sheree, you must be getting very excited and nervous about your June 1st banding. Hope you are able to relax, it really does go by quickly and you will be back to normal in no time. I am now at I think 7 weeks. I have lost about 20 lbs. I am going to TJ for my first fill on June 17th. I am just about back to normal. I don't have any pain but still getting used to not eating too fast and chewing my food better, also, getting used to the port being on my left side. Who is doing your surgery? Keep in touch before and after your surgery. Elaine

Hey there, you may have already made a decision but wanted to let you know that my friend and I were banded in TJ on April 10 by Dr. Kuri's team. The new hospital there far exceeds any hospital I have been in in the US regards to cleanliness and it is soo beautiful. You are allowed to stay at the hospital for both nights which I chose to do and could not have had a better experience. Everyone on his team is wonderful and caring and very knowledgeable. I actually have a friend that does the lap band here in the US, Los Angeles area where I live and I went to Mx and have not regretted it for a minute. Almost ready for my first fill. Let me know whay you have decided. I have lost 18 lbs. Good Luck.

I was told by the facilitator for Dr. Kuri that the left shoulder pain is related to gas. When I get it I put a heating pad on it and it goes away pretty quick.

Oh my gosh, I am soooo sorry that your husband is giving you grief. My husband was the one that encouraged me to have this done and even pushed a little when I was dragging my feet. Not sure if you have had the band done yet as you didn't mention which Tuesday it would be but if not, good luck. If you have had 5 children this should be a walk in the park. I had a few minor problems, ie, the left shoulder gas pains, which I used heating pad and a little port pain but for someone who doesn't do surgery well it has gone pretty well. My friend had it done the same day and her recoup was just a few days and back to work. I think my stomach was much weaker as I have had 3 c sections and not much muscle there to get up and down with. Let me know how it goes. Talk with you soon. You are from Ohio??? Great that your ins. is paying. That should encourage your husband. I paid 9 grand for mine. -
Sheree, let me know how the fill goes. Can't remember if you see Dr. Kuri or not. I heard that he does pretty good fills. I'm kind of skerd of the fill, I'm a big baby and don't like pain. I won't be getting down there until the middle of June as my schedule has not permitted it yet. I know I am somwhere between 15 and 20 lbs. so far. My band date was 4/10/06. My scales are kind of weird and I won't really know until I go for my fill. Good luck on your venture to Mexico next week end. Elaine

I am only about an hour and a half from the border so it is easy for me to go to MX even though I havn't gone for my fill yet, probably the end of this month. I have lost 15 lbs in three weeks. Just feeling better from the surgery, I don't take surgery well. Where are you located. Congratulations to your hubby, I do think men lose much faster than women do. Congrats on your band date.:clap2:

I was banded on 4/10/06 in Mexico with Dr. Kuri. Great experience, however, I did get the gas pains in the shoulder that lasted about 10 days. The most helpful thing for me was the heating pad. It is nice when they go away. As far as how much liquid, my Dr. said that as soon as you feel any discomfort or pressure to stop. I generally have one more bite in my mouth when I feel the restriction and I just stop when that bite is done. Good luck. Elaine

Sheree, would you belive my daughter's name is Sheree. I wanted to let you know that I went for my banding on April 9th and it was done on April 10th by Dr. Kuri's team. What a wonderful experience, not what I expected at all. The hospital is beautiful, cleaner than any I have seen in the US, I choose to stay at the hospital which was very pleasant. Make sure that you take Snacks for after your blood work. It is a long day to wait to have a bite. Also, I have had some port pain so I would take a heating pad for the gas in case you get it. Anyway, good luck. I know you will love it there. Elaine

I had my band 3 weeks ago and I have had a lot of discomfort from the port but just this week I got like a muscle ache in my lower abdomen a couple of inches below the port, I put a heating pad on it and it has almost subsided.

I was just banded on the 10th of April. Before I had the band I was hungry all of the time, even at night. Now I don't experience hunger very often. I am eating approx. 3 times daily and when I want something, mostly mental, I have sugarfree pudding, it seems to satisfy my sweet craving.
