    The January 15th Band Party!

Hello all....Just checking in with you all and seeing how everything is going. For me, I am down 40lbs...25 since surgery...which the dr is happy about. I have my first fill on March 11th...Kinda nervous about that. I have been doing great. I can already tell a huge difference in the way I feel. My husband told me this morning that I havent been snoring as bad as I used to:tongue2:!! I can tell that Im losing weight in my stomach area and also in my face and neck. As far as eating, I am eating basically what I want just in smaller portions and of course HEALTHIER!!!!!! I havent really found anything that I just cannot tolerate. However, I chew extremely well and have been taking it very very slow and easy. I feel absolutely no pains at my port areas or anywhere. I actually been having dreams of my hair falling out...lol....but I have been really concentrating on Protein so hopefully that isnt going to happen. I will keep you all posted and you do the same!! Ttyl Melodieus

    Fill under Xray

This was very helpful. I go March 11th for my first fill and they told me that this one was done at the imaging center (vs his office) so he could do it under fluro. I was curious about what I would be seeing and feeling. Thanks alot!!

I was banded Jan15th and went to dr yesterday. He doesnt do fills until 6 weeks out but due to schedules I am getting my fill 7 weeks out. I have already lost 36 lbs but 20 is since the band. I am doing so good now... hungry but not that bad... really feeling great. I dont want to go get a fill and really start having problems. I know I gotta get one but dont know what to expect. Pain, what to eat, problems???? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

    I want a salad

I too have heard no lettuce. Well, not totally banned but have heard that alot of people have had trouble with eating it. I had my surgery 1-15-09 and go to dr tomorrow to find out when my first fill is. I am soooooooooooooooooo craving a salad. This is wonderful news to me. I will just take it slow (as always) and I have always used shredded lettuce in the past so hopefully I will be able to enjoy my salads again!! Its funny, salads was the last thing I thought I would be craving at this time. :tongue_smilie:Thanks!!!!!!
  5. I totally know how you all are feeling. I was banded Jan 15th and of course had the usual post op pains. About 9-10 days post op I had such severe pains in my left side that it was totally unbearable. I couldnt stand up straight, couldnt take deep breaths...it started on a saturday and by sunday afternoon I had to call the doc. It had me worried that I had done something because I had been recuperating just fine and then all of a sudden got this awful pain. My doc said it was normal...it was probably stitches pulling...told me to take some ibuprofen and get off my feet and use the heating pad....I did just that and by monday morning I could tell a huge difference. Still "little" pains now and then but nothing compared to last weekend. Hope all of yours is better!!!!!

    Severe Pain..

They found gallstones on all my preop test for the lapband. I was hoping to have them both done at same time but my doctor wouldnt due to risks. I wanted to do it safely too. So, he took my gallbladder out and could have done my lapband within 2-4 weeks but couldnt due to my work schedule. About a week or so recovery. I am now 1 week and 2 days post op from lapband. The gallbladder was easier recovery though!!

    Sharp pain in side

I am wondering about the same thing....I am 1 week and 2 days post op....things were going as expected but probably within the last 2 days I have severe pain in my left side. I know thats where my port is and try to tell myself that it will take time to heal...am i correct???? I really seems to be getting worse...but of course I am now on tylenol and not narcotics...lol....feels better when I stand...and I have had no nausea... I was able to start eating mushies thursday and it seems to have gotten worse since then!!!!! any suggestions??? Is this common???
  8. I was banded on Jan 15th and have no hunger pains whatsoever. I feel like Im in the same boat with most of you guys. I started mushies yesterday. While I wasnt hungry, I was craving to chew or just get off liquids..... I had scrambled eggs for breakfast and tuna fish for late lunch but thats all I could tolerate. Anyways, I know how your feeling. I am just trying to stick with what he told me. I dont think its how much you eat right now its just started it and seeing how we can tolerate things. I tolerated it fine. Just taking it day by day.

    The January 15th Band Party!

Well, everything is going as expected after the surgery....sooooo sore but fine....trying to walk and drink my liquids...I did have a hernia when he got in there that he fixed. It didnt show up on all my preop stuff. Surgery took a little longer than expected because of that. Was on a pca pump for pain afterwards but now home and taking liquid pain meds which works but not like the pca....lol.... Hope all is well with you all and I will check back soon.

    The January 15th Band Party!

Hello fellow Jan 15th Bandsters....Sorry it has taken me this long to join you all....Had alot of stuff to do at work before the surgery. I am taking some much needed time off afterwards. I am soooooooo excited. I really hate being "put under" but no choice in that matter.....lol....Other than that, I am ready to embark on the new era in my life that is fast approaching. I did have a preop diet. 10 days worth of just liquids and did not cheat. I too was thinking....ok....I could stop by and get this pizza and breadsticks....one last good greasy meal before the surgery....its not gonna hurt...but I didn't...just had to talk myself out of it...literally....lol I show up at 530 in the morning....I have to spend the night due to my sleep apnea....but should be home by noon on friday....so will catch up with everyone then.... I will say a prayer for all of you and please say one for me. Good luck all and god bless.

    Terrified of my PreOp Diet

Honey I am feeling your pain....I am on day 7 of the liquid preop diet but it is getting better for me I believe. At least today was better. The first few days was awful. I never realized how many food commercials was on TV. Anyway, hang in there......just keep the end picture in your mind. Also, I kept myself soooo busy today....my house is spotless...but now its almost bedtime and I havent really thought alot about food today. I just hope the rest of the days are as good as today. I am able to have broths, sugarfree puddings, popsicles, low sugar juices, sf jello, protein drinks...etc...but I know alot of peoples preop diets are different.....My surgery is this Thursday the 15th and I am soooo excited. Good luck to you!!!!!!

    Lap Band vs. Gastric Sleeve

I am a nurse and have a "nursefriend" that works in OR. When I started talking to her about the band, she told me to look into the sleeve. I did and was totally what I DIDNT want. I want something that is adjustable and removable. I didnt want any part taken out, bypassed etc....Some people might not want that but in my case that is what I was looking for. When I applied to my insurances, they approved me for the band but not the sleeve which was fine. I am now on day 2 of my 10 day pre op liquid diet and having surgery next week the 15th...

    I miss Sushi.... :(

lol....funny that I seen this thread. I started my pre op diet today (liquids) and last saturday I made the whole family go out and eat japanese. I too love sushi and I thought it would probably be intolerable with the band. Glad to know that some of you can tolerate it.....THATS GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!

What is the best Protien Drink ?

I agree with some of the others. I like EAS chocolate fudge ones. They are great to me. Well, its not Dr Pepper BUT I can honestly say that I like them. I haven't been banded yet. My surgery is scheduled for Jan 15th. Good Luck!!
  16. I am scheduled for surgery Jan 15th....WOW....its getting close.....I started the pre op liquid diet today and not really sure of what to expect. As of right now, Im fine....BUT I know that it is going to be hard...just gotta deal with it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

    January '09 banders

Hello....I am getting banded Jan 15th also....Dr Mac in Jonesboro AR....excited but nervous!!!!!!
  20. I went through all the preop test which I also had to have my gallbladder taken out. I lost the required weight before my surgeon would schedule the test. However, since my insurances took FOREVER for approval, my surgery is not scheduled until Jan 15 2009 due to my work schedule. I have now started eating what I want now "while I can". Does anyone know if that is right? Well, it may not be right but is it wrong???? I called the doctor to ask but they set me up for a dr visit but not until next month. Just curious if anyone is having to wait awhile for their surgery and what you are doing in the meantime!!!!!
  21. GREAT QUESTION....I have Jan 15 09 date scheduled and kinda scared....but very excited. The doc gave me a list they have put together of over the years of patients telling them "things"....I already have my RX for my liquid pain meds, and gonna stock up on drinks etc when it gets closer. Just wanted to congrat u on the question and cant wait to see some replies.

    2009 Bandsters?

Hello fellow hopeful Jan 09 bandsters!!! I am scheduled Jan 15 09. I have been trying since summer 08 but just has taken awhile for all to fall into place. On my preop test, was found that I had gallstones. Had my gallbladder taken out Oct 6th. I have both insurances approval FINALLY but it took so long that now I have to wait until first of year due to my work schedule. Anyways, looking forward to it. Although I really dont know what Im suppose to be doing now since my surgery is so far away. I have been kinda just eating what I want to now since I know I wont be able to in the future. Anyone else having to wait awhile and, if so, are you following a specific diet? I lost my required 20lbs before gallbladder surgery but now kinda "living it up" until the date..
  23. OHHH...Thanks sooo much...I am already feeling better about the surgery. Just needed to hear the "good" stuff for awhile and not sooo much of the negatives. As for the gas, they found gallstones in my preop work up for lapband and had to have my gallbladder removed oct 6th. The gas was awful. Worst part of it!!! keep the comments coming!!!!!
  24. Im am scheduled to get banded on jan 15 09....I was scheduled earlier but had to change it due to my work and then I didnt want to have it right before christmas. Anyways, I was real excited until just recently. I have started reading (maybe 2 much) and its just getting to be a little scary. I have read about the nausea feelings, lumps in throats, vomiting, heartburn etc. I know that there has to be some pain with this but I dont want to go through a constant state of sickness. I work hard and have 2 children. I dont have the time to be "sick" all the time.... So, for all the bansters out there...please help me... I need the truth but I also need to hear positive things also. Thanks:confused::thumbup:
  25. Thanks alot!!!!!! I just need to hear from you kinds of people. I did the same thing through out my pregnancy. I would research things and of course the bad ones are what people want to write and read about. BTW, everything turned out fine then. You know the old saying you are what your around. I just want to be around positive folks and regain my excitement. I dont mind knowing about the problems. Im sure that will help...Just not all the time...Thx again
