  1. Friday night (11/13/09) I started having terrible chest and abdominal pains on my left side. At first I figured I probabaly ate my dinner to fast and needed to vomit well that didn't happen. I didn't get any rest at all that night! Was up in pain and couldn't even swallow my spit. The right side of my stomach is very tender to touch and I just want to scream. I called the nurse and was told to take some Maalox or go to ER. Didn't want to wait in ER all day and night so I've been suffering at home. The Maalox did stop my chest from hurting but my stomach pain is unreal. I finally threw up on Sat but still having abdominal pains and now my throat and chest seem to be on fire. Took my prescription pepcid this morning and chest stopped burning but I keep burping. I hope the pain goes away soon because I'm so tired and just want to sleep!

Any suggestions about what to do? I am calling the doctor first thing in the morning but this has been happening to me off and on since the beginning of October and I was hospitalized twice by my pcp and they can't figure out the problem. They just blame it on my band. Hopefully my band doctor can see me or give me some answers but I would love to hear if anyone has experienced what I am dealing with and what was the cause and solution.

    Thanks

  2. My doctor does all new patient fills that way for your first few fills. I was told it was because they like to limit you needing an unfill. I had my first fill on Wednesday after being rescheduled because they didn't have my appointment in radiology. The appoinment was wonderful to me. I was able to see my band and port on the monitor. I had to drink that nasty barium but when I was able to see it go threw the band without restriction and come up with too much I was thrilled to be able to see how it actually worked. I live four hours away from my doctor and she doesn't want me to need to come back because I was overfilled. I ended up with 3cc in my band.

I haven't gain any weight but my weight loss had stopped! I'm hoping the fill and exercise help it start back up again!

  3. I was banded on March 30th and have had IBS for 8years. I know i've only been banded a month but my IBS problems have not been an issue. I had to have alot of test done before surgery not because of my surgeon but my gastro doctor wanted to make sure everything would be ok. I had a colonoscopy, EGD (have to have for surgery anyway), Barium enema, Blood tests, Upper GI, and another one where they looked at the small intestines (can't remember name). My surgeon knew from the beginning and it wasn't an issue at all. Since surgery I had problems the first week or so but none since. I take a powdered medication with food or liquids to help control it. I have the IBS where I am always running to the bathroom in pain and well I'm never constipated to say the least! If she has it with Constipation then I'm not sure. I think that with IBS she really should talk to her doctor first to make sure but so far so good with me. Hope my experience helps some!

  4. Thanks. I called the Dr. after the first time I vomited and got someone else that didn't have a clue, but I will call back on Monday to talk to her directly. I stopped taking the pain meds today and you were right no nausea at all today. I have been able to take my Vitamin, and Protein Drink today. Im sore but I don't care because I'm not nauseated! It probably was the liquid pain medication all the time. I am going to stay on liquids until I talk to my doctor. Thanks for the suggestions!

  5. I was banded on March 30th and have been nauseous everday. I did vomit (if you can even call it that). The nausea medicine they gave me makes things worse. I have been scared to eat or drink ever since because it was very painful. According to my nutrition info they gave me I should be taking in alot more and should start purees tomorrow but I don't want to vomit. I am also scared of becoming malnurished and dehydrated. Never in a million years did I ever think I would be afraid of eating! Drinking Water is all im comfortable with right now but I know thats not enough. What should I be drinking, eating? All advice is greatly appreciated!

  6. Wow we have very similar problems! I was banded on Monday and I can't stay out of the bathroom because I have IBS. It is so bad I'm afraid to go to sleep. I also have a rapid heart beat at times and would feel manic, dizzy, and light headed so my doctor put me on a beta blocker so I am not having any problems with that right now. My gastro doctor gave me a new prescription that comes is a powder to be mixed with food or liquids so as soon as I am consuming more liquids I am going to start taking that. I am still on liquids so I can only hope things get better.

You may want to have an EKG done or wear the holter monitor over the weekend to let them diagnose your heart problem. I had to have alot of heart tests done for cardiac clearance before they would perform my surgery. The only time I have any problems is when i forget to take my medication. As far as the IBS I hope this new medication works when i can eat food. I was told to drink alot of Water to check the diarrhea. LOL!

  7. I am getting banded on 3/30. On liquid diet and miserable but I did cheat. Hoping to do better tomorrow (Its my birthday)! Getting nervous about surgery but I need to be positive and focus. Everyone that is not going in my shoes keeps saying its a mind thing and I want to say did u eat today or just drink. I am in a bad mood but I hope It gets better cause I want to be happy about my surgery and not let it be overshadowed by being on a liquid diet! I should be happy wish me luck!

  8. I am currently on day 3 of my pre-op liquid diet and have cheated everyday. I Do really well during the day and horrible at night. Today I did a little better and only ate a few pretzels. I think I must just be weak. Tomorrow is my birthday and I want to do really well so I don't feel like a loser. My surgeon only wants me to lose 5lbs and that shouldn't be that hard right! Wrong I could lose 5lbs eating chicken & tuna. I can drink 6 to 7 slimfast a day, sf Jello, skim milk, sf ff pudding, no sugar added non fat yogurt, broth, sf popsicles, Tomato or veggie juice, unsweetened diluted juice, low fat cream Soup, crystal lite and so on. I am able to have alot but I'm craving meat and sugar I hope my cravings and weakness do prevent me from doing what I have to do and drink the liquids. I have to be able to do this! 7 days to go! Surgery March 30th @ 6am!

  9. I am just getting started, but for support I've told my mom, stepfather,sister,brother-in-law, and a few friends and relatives. All my relatives have been encouraging and some have researched the surgery. My mother ans sister watched a surgey online at www.lapband.us. My friends for the most part are supportive but some have said they don't think i should have the surgery. I think that when your role is the fat friend they don't want that to change. If I lose some relationships by trying to improve my quality of life for myself and my sons then goodbye I don't aim to please anyone but me!

  10. I am just getting started on my journey. I go to my seminar on Nov 20th. I am going to have my surgery with the Emory Bariatric Center. I currently have medicaid (peachstate) coverage and I really hope they cover my surgery! I am very encouraged after coming to this site and I am really glad I did!:)
