Can you still swalllow any size pill?
Cindy C replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You shouldn't take any pill that's larger than an aspirin. Cipro and Prozac both come in liquid form. -
Choosing a Lap Band Surgeon !!!
Cindy C replied to Jezzy909's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If the deaths occurred a couple days after surgery I would guess that blood clots were the cause. (Of course that's only a guess). That would be something out of the surgeons control. While precautions can be taken in patients with a history of clotting, the risk can't be completely eliminated. That's why we are told to walk walk walk after surgery so blood clots don't have a chance to form. I would not shy away from this doctor because of these deaths without having all of the facts. -
Choosing a Lap Band Surgeon !!!
Cindy C replied to Jezzy909's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Death is always a risk when you undergo surgery. It's seldom due to something the surgeon did or did not do. What was the cause of death in those 3 patients? It could have been a blood clot, reaction to anesthesia, etc, things that have nothing to do with the surgeon and could not be predicted. The mortality rate in lapband surgery is about 1:2000 (almost double that for gastric bypass). Without weight loss, you have a 25% chance of dying from obesity related causes. Don't let the fear of death keep you from having surgery. If anything, the fear of premature death should convince you to have it! -
1) If people are going to be curious, they're going to be curious. There's nothing you can do about it. The only thing you have control over is how you handle their curiosity. If they ask I would just say, "I'm really not all that hungry." 2) Since my "baby" was 17 when I was banded I can't really comment on pregnancy and lapband, but as a medical professional I can say that ABSOLUTELY your ob/gyn should know about your lapband. In fact all of your doctors should know about the treatment you're receiving from all of your other doctors. When you go to a doctor they always ask for your health history and any surgeries you have had.

I agree. I'm a firm believer in paying it forward! If my experience can help one person then it's worth the criticism of a million!

We all know that those things are necessary for success but for some of us we needed more. I'm glad that you are getting your demons under control. For you it worked. What works for one person won't necessarily work for another. For me, it didn't. The band was NOT the answer to my demons. It was simply a part of the equation. You've lost 80 pounds in 7 years. Good for you. I've lost 145 in 3. Good for me. If we were both thrown back into the stressful situations that led to our obesity in the first place I know I would be able to avoid returning there. Can you say the same?

HOW MUCH IN ONE MEAL
Cindy C replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too only eat 3 or 4 bites at any given moment. It's really no big deal. Since I live alone, there's no such thing as "mealtime" in my house. If I'm hungry, I eat. If I'm not, I don't! 4 oz. Protein, 1/2 cup to 1 cup of veggies, then up to 1/2 cup of complex carbs---I could NEVER eat that much in one sitting! I might eat that much throughout the day! -
I am currently in the green zone at about 5.8cc but I know if I lose another 10 pounds I'll need a little tweek.

That's why I never eat pork anymore. Gets stuck every time!! -
So Clown made a joke that some people didn't find funny or were even offended by. If we were all skinny our whole lives and made some of the fat jokes that we do here others would be offended by that! Let's just all drop it and move on. I think he's been reprimanded enough! I'm sure he didn't mean to offend, he was just trying to create a few smiles.

Pain After Lap Band Surgery
Cindy C replied to User1234567's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The pain is very minimal. The worst part is caused from the gas they use to "blow up" your body so they can move around in there. It will dissipate over the next couple weeks and moving around helps immensely. -
Any Regrets after Lap Band Surgery ?
Cindy C replied to SumthinsGottaGive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AGREED!! -
Loved ones trying to talk you out of Lap Band Surgery.
Cindy C replied to rachelmiller1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has your heavy friend done the research? If the answer is no then I would tell her "Thanks for your concern but I'm doing what I feel is best for me and my family. I hope I can count on your support." Could be that she is jealous and afraid your weight loss will change your friendship with her. As for the twig, tell her what I told my twig friend that was against it: "Go gain 150 pounds, carry it around for a couple decades and then come back and see me. Maybe then your opinion will count!" The people who truly count in your life will be supportive! -
I went every month for the first 2 years. Now I go when I think I need to. My last visit was in April.

OMG that sounds awesome. Think I'll skip the rice tho!

My port is not visible through my skin although I can feel it with my fingers. I think a BMI of 33 is plenty high enough to have surgery. Tell your hubby there is a better chance of you not being there for your son if you continue on the path you are on.

Head hungry, Not ACTUALLY Hungry
Cindy C replied to CurlyDiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all, congrats on you success so far. Keep up the good work. You're right, that head hunger and urge to eat is a real pain in the a$! For those of us who ate like pigs our entire lives it's really hard to get past! You need to find something that you truly love and focus on that when the urge hits. What worked for me probably won't work for you. (My one true love is Detroit Tiger Baseball. Has been since I was about 5 years old. As luck would have it, I had my surgery in June....right in the heart of baseball season. Since they play 162 games a year I always had them to turn to on days I needed a focus.) Find something that you can be passionate about and throw yourself into it. -
Take your measurements. I found with every plateau I hit along the way that even though the scale was not moving, the tape measure was. Seeing that I was losing inches if not pounds helped keep me on track until the scale caught up. Good luck!

I really don't think I can do it
Cindy C replied to 18Dreamer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are just having a case of last minute nerves. Your surgery is a week away and you're getting scared. It's understandable. You are very young and probably never been through anything so life changing before. I think most of us can relate to the pain of being the fat kid...I know I can. You want to feel better about yourself and probably want to "show them". While losing weight isn't going to change who you are on the inside it will change how you feel about yourself. You will eventually become more confident and happier with your reflection. You don't have health issues now, but you are right. If you stay on your current path you will have them eventually. You're a beautiful girl with your whole life ahead of you and you deserve all the happiness you can get. If losing the weight will contribute to that happiness then you should do it. Don't worry about the surgery or the pain afterward. It's really not that bad. With youth and good health on your side it will probably be easier for you than it was for some of us who are older and less healthy. You should discuss your concerns with your mom or whoever is your biggest supporter. Good luck, I'm sure you'll make the right decision for you. Cindy
