  2. There's nothing to defend. You realized you needed to do something and you did it. If anyone has an issue with the way you did it, well that's their issue not yours. They're probably just jealous! You did a great job and look wonderful. Enjoy your success. You deserve it.

    checking in

Just found this thread and wanted to say hi. I was banded 6/10/08. Its been a long journey but I'm finally within 20 pounds of my goal.

    Timeline

I had BCBS of Michigan when I had my surgery and it went very quickly. I needed a psych eval, some labs and a 6 month supervised diet. My PCP said due to my past attempts he was able to write in his letter that I had already met that requirement. We had open enrollment in April and I discovered that it was covered. My company changed to BCBS as of May 1. I went for my consultation with the surgeon on May 15 and had my surgery on June 10. So it was a total of 3 1/2 weeks.

    I'm so excited!

I posted this in another thread but I think it deserves its own. I received a letter today from the National Marrow Donor Program telling me that I may be a match for a patient awaiting a transplant. I've been on the registry since 1995 and never been called on. I am so excited about the possibility of doing this. I've wanted to for so long. The more I think about it the more I think that everything happens for a reason. Maybe, after years of wanting to have lapband surgery I finally was able to do so so that I would be healthy enough to possibly save another life. I doubt that they would have accepted me before. I've never been terribly religious, but maybe the G_ds smiled down and said lets make this one healthy so she can save that one. Anyway, I don't know why it's happening now but I'm so stoked!
  6. You should be blown away! Look at you!!!!! Good job. What a difference a year makes. Happy Bandiversary.

    Help with gas pain

Lortab and Vicodin are the exact same thing. 5mg hydrocodone and 500 mg acetaminophen. Just different brand names. A mid back chiropractic adjustment will knock that gas pain out in 2 seconds!

    ABSOLUTELY!!

    Alcohol and common sense

Yes we do have a small pouch, but when the alcohol passes through that pouch it goes into the main part of our stomach where it metabolizes the same as before surgery....maybe slightly quicker due to the lack of food in there. But in the bypass patient 95% of the stomach is bypassed causing the alcohol to absorb at lightening speeds thus causing quicker and longer intoxication. I'm not saying that bandsters, or anyone else for that matter, should drink and drive. I'm simply saying that the article you referenced does not apply to us.
  10. I lost my 22 year old daughter!

Donating a kidney post- lap band.

Wow, how is this for a coincidence? I've been on the National Marrow Registry for over 16 years and never been called upon to donate. Now, after having discussed it in this thread I got a letter today stating that I may be a match for a patient in need of a transplant! I immediately called the number and got the ball rolling. I should be getting a phone call in the next few weeks. It may sound strange, but I really hope that I get the opportunity to do this!

    Taking/Swallowing pills

Anything larger than an aspirin will need to be cut, crushed or taken in a different form.
  13. Unfortunately, the hard way is the only way to learn!

    New girl!

Welcome, Kaylee. Congrats on a successful surgery. I have a feeling that you will hit that 170 goal very quickly and then will set a new lower goal and hit that too. I know it seems like you have a long way to go but really you don't. You have youth on your side and a 2 year old to keep up with. I bet the pounds fall off at lightning speed! Good luck and keep posting your progress!

    PMS

I'm sooooo glad I no longer have that problem!!!! In the old pre band, menstrual days I would eat anything that didn't eat me first!
  16. Chicken doesn't give me problems. It never has even if its a little bit dry. Red meat on the other hand, is a big no-no for me. It doesn't matter how moist it is. I can handle a small amount of hamburger if its in something like spaghetti sauce, although I can't eat the spaghetti, just the sauce. I shy away from most things that are white...pasta, bread, rice...I have become a huge fan of Soup. It's high in Protein and veggies, low in calories and goes down easily. That's usually what I order if I go out. That's great, Brenda. Wish I could say the same. The PB'ing and sliming issues are few and far between for me now but they do still happen on occasion!

    Food Intake Questions 101

You're doing great. Don't try to limit your carbs and fats too much. They help with protein absorption. Just stay in your caloric range and you'll be fine.
  18. So, I've had my band for over 3 years. (1149 days to be exact!) For the past 2 years I've been able to run my finger over my port and feel it through my skin. I never really gave it much thought but it always seemed to be smooth. Monday night I was laying on my back in bed watching TV and reached down there to scratch an itch and felt my port. It was different somehow. It seemed to have a divot in the middle. I was slightly concerned that maybe something had happened to it so Tuesday morning I called the Lapband nurse and told her. She said "There is a divot in it. The doctor has to hit the divot with the needle when he adjusts the band." Seriously? All this time and I never noticed that? The only thing that makes any sense to me is that I have lost another 12-15 pounds in the last couple months and maybe that last little bit of fat on top of it is gone. Who knew?

    What to do

Go to YOUR doctor. You would be amazed at how many people don't go because they are too embarrassed because they aren't having success. He's used to it. He can't help you if you don't go. Your husband is going to be gone for a year. Imagine the look on his face when he comes home and sees his skinny wife for the first time. Use that as your motivation!

    vacation fill?

    Listen to the good angel!
  21. I haven't been on a roller coaster since I was about 6 or 7 years old when my 2 older brothers played a rotten trick on my on one. Freaked me out so bad that 45 years later I still won't go on one.
  22. It's not uncommon to plateau or even gain after you go back to solid foods. Hang in there. It'll start coming off again.

    Swollen or Slipped Lap Band??

You are probably just swollen from the vomiting. Put yourself on liquids for a few days and you should be fine. Chronic or projectile vomiting can cause a slip but one little episode is unlikely to do any long term damage.

    Alcohol and common sense

This article is about gastric bypass patients and alcohol. Alcohol (in any form) contains alot of sugar. Sugar is a huge no-no with gastric bypass. While it's true that alcohol will affect us quicker because of the small amount of food in our systems, this really doesn't apply to us.

    Maintance Phase

Some people might be able to handle it. I wouldn't even want to try. I have a friend that was banded in 2003. She reached her goal of 155 and has maintained it for over 6 years. 3 or 4 months ago she had an unrelated medical issue. Her doctor insisted on loosening her up until the other issue was resolved. She was finally able to go this week for a fill and had gained almost 25 pounds.
