I have always found Thanksgiving to be the biggest cause of winter weight gain. Lets eat like pigs and then the next day start getting ready for Christmas with shopping, decorating, BAKING and getting ready to pig out some more. I found a cure for that since surgery. Since I live on the border, I spend the day in Canada. It's not Thanksgiving there. That way I don't start the holiday season off on an overstuffed gut! I've made it through the last 3 years without holiday weight gain.

I'm freaking at a plateau............
Cindy C replied to Beachy_Babs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Because she hasn't been exercising a day or a week. She's been doing it for months. Strength training will indeed build muscle mass over time. If you knew as much about the way the human body works as you think you do, I doubt that you would have reached the point of needing WLS at such a young age. -
Yea, NJ! Restriction is a beautiful thing! Bon Voyage!!!

I agree with TKW. That's just too much work. I say go with the 'Fro! -
Definitely feel the port. The more weight I lose, the more I feel it. But know, I don't feel the band.

Sounds like you had a heck of a day but it turned out great! Hope your car repairs are minimal. Congrats on getting the ball rolling! -
Mushies, some examples
Cindy C replied to genesishanna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally normal. When you switch from liquids to real food the weight lose slows down. I actually gained 5 pounds that week. -
I love popcorn and can eat the whole bag, but I don't. Luckily have 5 dogs that love it as much as I do so when I do make it, they all sit at my feet (or climb into my lap) and whine til I share with them. They end up eating more of it then I do so I don't feel too guilty on the rare occasion that I do eat it!

It's a brand new day!
Cindy C replied to Barbie Girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Barbie, No need to apologize. That's what we are all here for. Post all the details you want. I'll be watching. You are definitely worth a healthy body and it's very important to love yourself, If we can't love ourselves nobody else can either. Good luck sticking to your plan. I know you can do it! Throw away the pizza rolls. Those things are poison! Cindy -
Good for you. You'll get there before you know it. I just hit the 170's and it does feel better than Onderland did!

Good one!

Very touching story, however; it was not posted by Dusti. It was a commercial for the fill center.

OK, I'm confused. According to your profile, you've been banded 5 months and have lost 45 pounds. What's the problem? You're doing great! So maybe your haven't reached good restriction yet but you will. You didn't really think that you would be near your goal by now, did you? If the most you've seen is 100 lbs lost then you haven't looked very hard. There are a lot of people here that have lost more than that. I've lost 145. It didn't happen over night. It's taken 3 years. But guess what? I didn't gain it overnight either. I bet you didn't either. Be patient and follow the program. The band will work and the weight will (continue to) come off.

Welcome to the beginning of your journey!

I'm freaking at a plateau............
Cindy C replied to Beachy_Babs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, obviously its not weight vs weight!!!!! A pound is a pound is a pound! A pound of feathers weighs the same as a pound of concrete. The question is how much space that pound takes up. No one said that muscle mass was built over night or in a week. -

Reverie, muscle density is 1.06 g/ml. Fat is .9 g/ml. Which means muscle is about 18 percent denser, and thus heavier, than fat. -
Anyone banded over 10 years
Cindy C replied to sparkplug's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That not likely since lapband has only been approved in the US for 10 years! (June, 2001) -
I feel your pain Bonbon. I was banded the same time as you...June, 08. I lost like crazy the first year and then for the next 2 only averaged 1 pound a month. I quit my highly stressful job in April and that really made a difference. I lost about 12 pounds in 3 months. Then I hit another plateau. Last Friday, I decided to go on liquids for a while and see what happens. I did liquids for 3 days and then incorporated soups on Monday. It really seems to have kick started my metabolism. I've lost 4 pounds in 5 days. I'm going to try to keep it up for 2 weeks but it's much more difficult than the first time!

Be really careful with crunchy foods. You have to chew the heck out of them or they will get stuck. When they do get stuck it is so much worse than when something soft gets stuck. I avoid them for the most part!

I weigh myself weigh more often than I should but the only one that counts is Tuesday morning. That's the one I record. I've had the same routine for 3 years. I get up, let the dogs out, brush teeth and hair, pee and then weigh. I let the dogs in, make coffee, drink it while I check email etc. Then I go back to the bathroom, put on make-up, brush hair again and weigh again. I know it's pointless..it's always the same as the first time, but I do it anyway. When I get home at the end of the day, I weigh myself again. Sometimes, that number dictates what I eat for dinner. At night, when I get ready for bed I weigh one more time. Obsessive? Yea, probably. But that's what I do!

I'm freaking at a plateau............
Cindy C replied to Beachy_Babs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Babs, you have lost 42 pounds in 3 months. That's great. Plateaus happen. Your body is just adjusting to everything you're putting it through. With all the exercise, you are building muscle which weighs more than fat. Are your clothes getting looser? I bet if you take your measurements you will find that you have lost inches. If it helps, at 3 months I had lost 56 pounds (15 was pre-op). Then I gained 5 pounds and at 4 months I was still at 56 pounds lost. So you seem to be exactly at the same place that I was at the same time. I know it can be stressful but relax. Just keep doing what you're doing. It will pick back up...I promise. You're doing great!!! -
