When do I start increasing fluid intake
Cindy C replied to Lisa1967's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Whatever you can tolerate should be fine. Just don't chug! I did and it came right back up.....looked like old faithful! LOL! -
Not heartburn but an acid taste in my throat
Cindy C replied to shan-dog's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You may not feel it in your chest but it IS reflux. That's not something you want to mess around with. Youn should go get a little fill removed for a couple weeks. You've probably got some swelling going on. -
All I can say to that is....FAR OUT, MAN!! Congrats! You're doing great!

Are you serious? The OP is 19 years old and living with her parents. I think we can safely assume that it is their house and not hers. She has no right to dictate what they bring into it. Her parents would not be doing her any favors by shielding her from temptations. She needs to learn to deal with them on her own. If Mom and Dad are eating something she finds difficult to stay away from then she needs to go out or stay in another room.

It really shouldn't be heartburn. You're on a liquid diet so I'm assuming you haven't been eating anything that would cause it. Try sleeping with more pillows and see if that helps. You might also want to call the doctor.

Struggling with food choices
Cindy C replied to pamnew's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How's your restriction? Maybe a fill is in order. I still drink protein shakes but not as much as I used to. Maybe about 3 or 4 a week. In the beginning it was 2 a day. -
You're just having last minute jitters. We all have them. Unfortunately, most people only post problems they are having because they are looking for help. For every person who has a complication there are hundreds of people who have none. As for people who have been banded over 10 years you probably aren't going to find many. Lap band has only been approved in the US for 10 years.

Any post-op RN's? How long out of work
Cindy C replied to MaggiePappleseed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back after 6 days but with 25 pound restriction. -
Different insurances have different requirements. It may be that your insurance doesn't require it. Call you insurance company and ask them. I had BCBS of Michigan when I had my surgery and they did require a 6 month diet, however; because I had had the same PCP for almost 20 years and he was well aware of the previous attempts I had made, he was able to write his referral so that I didn't have to do it.

Just save it up to spend on new clothes. You're gonna need em!

New here, 5 days post-op!
Cindy C replied to kcbandit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Gum is a really bad idea for someone with a lapband. If you accidentally swallow it you could have BIG problems! -
That's my point, you don't want them around but the fact is...that stuff is gonna be around no matter where you go. A little bit of temptation now and at home will help you not become overwhelmed my the bigger temptations you are sure to experience in the real world. Besides, you don't really expect your parents to stop eating just because you had surgery, do you? BTW, you are doing incredibly well. Look at you....46 pounds already! That's great....Keep up the good work!

The OP is 5 days post op so still on liquids. kimber, just because you don't like dairy products, you still need to gag down enough to get what you need nutritionally. Try mashed up refried beans and thin them out with enough taco sauce to get to the proper consistency.

This journey is full of temptations and you are going to have to learn to ignore them. The sooner you learn it, the better off you'll be. Might as well start now! If it's any consolation, I can walk into a bakery, pizza joint, chocolate store (some of my former favorite places) and just breathe in the aroma and I'm good.....don't need to eat it, I can get my "fix" from the smell. Actually, I look at pizza and, most of the time, the sight grosses me out. All I can picture is what that crust would do inside my pouch! You'll get there too!

That is perfectly normal. We all gain when we move from liquids to solid food. Just be patient and let your body adjust to the changes. The weight loss will pick back up before you know it!

WTG, KALA!!!! I don't really like this thread much. It gives people the opportunity to pass the buck! The bottom line is we are fat because of too many calories in and too few out. We all need to hold ourselves accountable. We have no one to blame but ourselves.

Supervised diet for insurance
Cindy C replied to batiircabur's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go to your PCP. Mine was able to bypass the 6 month diet for me. Not sure what he had to do, just know that I had surgery 25 days after beginning the process. -
I need inspiration, please!
Cindy C replied to Media_Girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first thing you need to do is suck it up and get on the scale. You have to know where your at. Not knowing the number is probably going to cause it to go up even more. You need to hold yourself accountable. The next thing you need to do is figure out what's causing your stress and eliminate it from your life. Your divorce is behind you and you have a new man so that stress factor should be gone. If the job situation is the problem, find another one. It's never too late to get back on the band wagon. Go back to square one if you have to. I went on liquids for 3-4 days last week and was able to jump start my metabolism and lost about 3 pounds which is huge for me at this point. Track your food and exercise. You are so close to your goal. You should have no trouble getting back on track but you have to be diligent. Make yourself your #1 priority. You can do it! -

What should be buy for post op diet
Cindy C replied to glowormvl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquid Emetrol for nausea S/F lemonade or lemon hard candy. You will have a terrible taste in your mouth from the liquid diet. All the tooth brushing and mouth wash in the world won't help. Anything lemon flavored will cut through it. Chicken or beef broth jello popsicles protein powder milk lump free yogurt For your ticker: Copy the bbcode go to edit my profile/change signature paste the code into the box -
The End of Summer Challenge
Cindy C replied to size10again's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cindy checking in at 175.6. I didn't hit my goal of 172 but I got half of it. That's good enough for me! 3 pounds is more than I've lost in a month in a long time! -
App. Suppressant VS. Lap Band
Cindy C replied to kel-lee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There really is no comparison. Appetite suppressants are designed to help you lose weight. They do absolutely nothing to help keep it off. As soon as you stop taking them the weight will come back. Lap band is designed to help take it off and, equally importantly, KEEP it off. When you take something like Phentermine, you are dieting. Lap band isn't a diet, its a life style change. Before my surgery I could lose weight but I didn't have a clue how to maintain the lose. Having lap band has helped me learn it. -
I had horrible heartburn before my surgery. Never have it anymore! You're right. It is amazing!
