Showering-- How soon after surgery?
Cindy C replied to faz1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was in patient. They said I could shower the next morning. I waited til I got home so about 30 hours after surgery. -
Today's Anniversaries (Sep 11, 2011)
Cindy C replied to Alex Brecher's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This isn't really an anniversary I like to remember. -
It's more likely that someone who has had bypass will regain.

Everybody is different, but you should probably start getting good restriction when you start getting close to 40% capacity. I have a 10cc band with 5.8 in it but I've been banded for over 3 years and am close to goal. As the fat melts, the band gets looser. In the beginning, I first felt restriction at about 3.5-4cc.
-
Is this what restriction is or is it too tight?
Cindy C replied to falcon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You need to be 100% aware of your eating...bite sizes...chewing...speed...Don't let yourself be distracted. If you've been getting stuck it could just be that and not too much fluid. If you've been losing since your last fill you don't want to mess with that. If you haven't been losing you may just be too tight. I have a feeling you're not. You just need to work on how you eat. I wouldn't cancel the appointment though. Keeping your appointments is important whether you think you need an adjustment or not. In your conversation with the doctor or nurse, they may see something that you may not. I don't know about your office, but the support I get from mine is incredible. You are absolutely right when you say that the weight loss is intoxicating. That is exactly how i felt and still do. Going to the doctor and having him make a big deal out of your success just makes you want more! 50 pounds in 3 months is awesome. Especially considering you started out at a lower weight than a lot of us. Good for you. Keep it up. -
I can see how this stage can very discouraging
Cindy C replied to LJM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything you're going through is perfectly normal. Moving from liquids to mushies or mushies to solids will cause a little bit of gain...also normal. After you get a fill (I hate to tell you) you probably won't feel much, if any, restriction. For most of us it takes about 3. It's a process that we all had to go through. It gets better...it gets easier. Until you get good restriction (and you will) whenever you think you're hungry stop and ask yourself is it my belly or my head that's hungry. Find something to keep yourself (body and brain) occupied for about 20 minutes. If your still hungry it probably was your belly. If you forget to check the clock, it was your head! -
Well, there's your problem. You went to Obesityhelp.com. They are all about band bashing. Personally, I would NEVER allow myself to be gutted like a fish and my insides rerouted! I have found that band bashers are either A} uneducated about lapband or B} fellow bandsters that didn't follow the plan and thus failed. In either case, their opinion doesn't count!

I bumped up.. is that so wrong?
Cindy C replied to StewsHunnyBunny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While Elcee's words may have been a little harsh, I completely get the concept. Over and over we have seen people come in here saying they don't want to follow doctors' orders and asking for advise. Then we find another post from the same person saying "this damn thing isn't working!" It gets very frustrating. A support group isn't always about telling people what they want to hear. Sometimes we have to tell each other what they NEED to hear. Shelley, in no way am I suggesting that you are one of those people. I honestly think you are doing well. You're just in Bandster Hell! Trust me, it will pass! Just keep following your doctor's orders as best you can and use your common sense. You'll be fine! -
Perfectly normal to just want water. Listen to your body. You can put your crushed pills in applesauce, yogurt or pudding.

If the doctor doesn't write you a script for anti-nausea meds go buy a bottle of liquid Emetrol. It works wonders. Take a comfortable pillow or two with you. The ones at my hospital were like cardboard. Take sweat pants or pajama pants with you. They are going to expect you to do a lot of walking. You really don't want to do that in hospital gowns! Take a good book or magazine and don't forget your phone charger. I find that canned broth is nasty. I made my own and froze it in ice cube trays then was able to just nuke as little or as much as I wanted when I got home. And you might want some s/f Popsicles and Fudgesicles. You are going to have an awful taste in your mouth from the liquid diet after a few days. Get something lemon flavored to take it away...s/f lemonade or hard candy work really well.

It's all happening so fast!!!
Cindy C replied to HeavyDutyQ-tee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just go ahead and have the surgery. By the time they bill it will be at least 30 days. Another 30 days before its due. If you don't have it by then, you can make arrangements. -
Liquid Emetrol will get rid of it! CVS has their own brand. It's about $4.

Carbonated drinks after Lap Band Surgery
Cindy C replied to karnott57's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't had one in over 3 years and don't miss it. Before my band, I would go through about 4 12-pks a week! -
It went fine. It was a very small group. The doctor spoke first..then the nurse. By the time it was my turn they had pretty much asked their questions already...only had a couple for me.
-
Tomorrow morning I'm attending my surgeon's seminar to speak to potential patients and answer any questions they may have. Although I've done this several times, I would like some input from newbies (and old timers too). What did you not ask that you wish you had? What do you wish you had known before your surgery? Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

I bumped up.. is that so wrong?
Cindy C replied to StewsHunnyBunny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to my dr, full liquids are anything w/o lumps and with a consistency that it could go through a straw. So as long as your purees are thin enough you should be OK. I hate to tell you this, but all those symptoms you mentioned....left side pain, diaphragm pain, Thanksgiving feeling, feeling like you need to burp etc....for me those are signs that I ate too much! -
Starvation Mode questions
Cindy C replied to Texasbandit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now is about healing, not losing. When you go back to solids you will probably gain a little or at least plateau for a week or two. It's normal and all part of the process. Just relax and follow the doctor's instructions. You'll be fine and the weight will drop when it's time. -
Would you get the band if you had a chance have a "do over"
Cindy C replied to Jim1967's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If I could do it over I would do it years earlier! -
WOW, that is so not true! hair loss has nothing to do with which surgery you have. It's caused by rapid weight loss and not getting enough Protein. About 9 months out my hair, I was losing tons of hair. It lasted for several months but eventually grew back.
-
It may have been the veggies in the omelet. The first time I went out for Breakfast after my surgery the green peppers about killed me. BTW, 32 pounds already!! You go, Girl! I knew you were gonna rock your band!

Wanting to 'lick' foods while in liquid diet?
Cindy C replied to Marla290's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OMG I did that! When I went for my 4 week follow-up, the nurse asked if I had cheated. I said yes I had. She braced herself for what she might have to deal with and said "OK what did you do?" I said "I licked a potato chip. I just wanted some salt so I licked the chip and gave it to the dog!" I thought she was gonna fall over laughing. -
Do U use Lap band ID for Kiddie/Sr/Smaller meals
Cindy C replied to stratcat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only time I use it is at Golden Corral. Not that I go to a buffet that often but when I do they charge me as a 12 year old. $5! -
