Colace and other stools softeners are not going to do a thing for constipation. They don't make you go, they just make it easier when you do. Lots of water and some warm prune juice will help in time. When my patients are constipated, I give them 2 Tablespoons of Milk of Magnesia followed by a minimum of 8 ounces of water (12 is better). They usually go within 30 minutes! I see that you are 68 years old. If you are on any meds it's entirely possible that one or more of them are causing your problem. Discuss it with your doctor.

You cannot feel the band. It is attached to a part of the body that does not have nerve ending with the ability to feel something simply touching it.

Awesome, Elizabeth! You're so pretty and have your whole life ahead of you. Keep up the good work!

Breakfast ideas for someone who doesn't like eggs?
Cindy C replied to Marla290's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hate eggs. My band is usually tight in the morning so a protein shake or yogurt is all I eat.....plus two or three cups of coffee. -
I'm a chocoholic too. After my surgery, I kept a bag of dark chocolate Hershey kisses in the freezer. When the cravings got overwhelming the rule was I could have ONE and I wasn't allowed to chew it. A frozen kiss lasts along time when you have to suck it! It cured my craving and was only 20 calories (25 for milk chocolate ones)!

I have a new Thanksgiving tradition. Since I live on the Canadian border, every year I cross over and spend the day shopping! It's not a holiday there!!

Normal for a Dr to charge a big upfront fee?

My non refundable program fee was $100 and no diet plan! -
Very hard decision in very little time!!!
Cindy C replied to Myzz_Courtney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What does your doctor say are the chances that you will have further complications? You say your getting older and recovery takes longer but your profile says you are 26!? I would go ahead and have surgery to fix it while I still had insurance to cover it. -
Can someone explain what it means?
Cindy C replied to littlerlou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Having trouble with a food means that it doesn't go through the band. It gets stuck and either comes back up, causes a sliming episode or hurts like crazy until it finally falls through. I have those problems mostly with rice, pasta. red meat, raw vegetable and bread. I can handle a little bit of rice or pasta if its in Soup. The remedy is JUST DON'T EAT THEM!!! -
For those of you at goal/ long termers
Cindy C replied to newstart1972's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded in June, '08. I'm 12 pounds from goal and haven't had a fill since April. I don't anticipate needing one any time in the near future. -
Just be a duck and let it roll off of your back! People who make comments like that are either ignorant or jealous. Either way, you don't need them! Be proud of your success...you're doing great. And FYI...there is a much lesser chance of regaining with lap band then there is with gastric bypass!

Your doctor is mistaken! Soup fills me up and keeps me full for hours! I usually eat less than a bowl...sometimes only a cup!

The 60s -- the greatest decade to grow up in!
Cindy C replied to SassySenior's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I was a little young for Woodstock, but that doesn't mean I didn't want to go! I was born in 1960, the youngest in my family. The oldest was born in 1952. I was greatly influenced by my siblings. While I probably should have been in love with Donny Osmond, I much preferred Jim Morrison and Peter Noone! Even though I was only 4 years old when the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan, I remember it like it was yesterday. I sat there completely mesmerized by them. Congrats on your Rangers. They were spectacular last night! I hope they go all the way. I can't stand the idea of the Cardinals winning #11. Besides, if the Rangers win that means the only team that beat my Tigers was the World Champs. I can live with that! I'm just so proud of them for knocking the Yankees out for the second time in 5 years! So your guys need to go back to St. Louis and knock those birds off their perch! -

Fighting the Negativity Makers...
Cindy C replied to SkinnyMiniMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually tell the naysayers, "Well you are certainly entitled to your opinion." Before surgery I had a skinny friend start preaching about what I should do. I told her, "Why don't you go gain a hundred pounds, carry it around with you for a couple decades and then come back and tell me how easy it is to lose it 'the right' way!" -

The 60s -- the greatest decade to grow up in!
Cindy C replied to SassySenior's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You're right. The 60's were a special time! The music was like nothing before or since. Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, the British Invasion Bands....Being from Detroit, I loved (and still do) Motown. I remember begging my parents to let me go to Woodstock. My brother said he would take me. They just laughed at us. I was 9 he was 14! LOL!! -
College life and the Band- Good in theory, not in practice.
Cindy C replied to Meduseld's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't envy you one bit. You're embarking on 2 of the biggest journeys of your life at the same time. Kudos to you! My son is at college with a meal plan too and I know the food is absolutely repulsive! If you like those smoothies I say go ahead and have one for breakfast every day. 250 calories for breakfast isn't bad. Since you don't like proteins shakes try Carnation Instant Breakfast once or twice a day. There's 5 grams of protein in the powder and another 1 gram in each ounce of milk so you can get another 13 grams in each one. If you have access to Sam's Club or Costco it's much cheaper than the grocery store. About $8 for 22-30 of them. I like Pintos and Cheese from Taco Bell. High in protein and low in calories. You can make them yourself. Buy canned refried beans. Put them in a bowl with some taco sauce and sprinkle shredded cheese on top and microwave it. Those things added with your tuna and yogurt should help you get enough protein for the day. Good luck to you. You're doing well. Keep it up. -
I eat soup all the time!

I don't feel I look the way people say I do...
Cindy C replied to KMO22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't let anyone tell you how much you should or should not lose. That is entirely up to you. You are the one who has to live in that body and it should be exactly what YOU think it should be. You'll know when you get there. I've had people telling me for a long time that I'm getting too skinny. I think they're all either nuts or jealous. I'm still 174 pounds, size 12 with BMI over 25. Even my surgeon said that I looked good and didn't need to lose any more. That was 20 pounds ago. I still want to lose another 15 or so. And I will!! -
Pizza??? (no crust)
Cindy C replied to HeavyDutyQ-tee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be careful of the cheese. It can get stuck very easily!
