    New to NC- doctor search

Been in NC since fall and am thinking I need an adjustment. I'm on maintenance but am still losing weight and can't eat enough to keep up my weight. Anyone have any recommendations? There is a fill center up towards Asheville. I'm in the Piedmont Triad area. Surely there has to be a provider in the Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point area. Thanks!

    Picking your doctor

And not just experience...you want good experience and skill. It's a bonus when you get someone skilled, experienced, and a good price so there's nothing wrong with looking for it all.

    vacation..first day of normal food

Eat anything you want- just be mindful that you've come so far and you don't want to sabotage yourself. Save some money and don't order anything- just ask the person/people you are with to give you 1 bite of what they have. So, a bite of a hotdog, fries, ice cream-whatever is fine. But try to make good choices, of course. Water instead of soda or juice and veggies/protein instead of fried stuff. Have fun in the sun! I've not made it to Myrtle this year, weird.
  4. Agreed, talk to your doc. If you are hungry, you should be eating!

    reluctant...

Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are not 100 percent committed, then this isn't for you.

    Telling people.....

Treat this as you would ingrown toenails, bowel problems, and root canals. If you are the type to tell people your medical issues- sure, tell 'em. But if you don't, then why would you consider this any different?

    Annoyed

I've not told anyone about my lapband, especially people from church.
  8. Never heard of that...but may be. I flew from SAN to SLC w/o problem a few days after my procedure.

    Possible loss of coverage

Get COBRA, the govt is now subsidizing premiums.

    I've lost my insurance coverage.....questions

Get COBRA, fast. And then get the govt to subsidize your premium..... just saw it on Oprah, Suze Orman. Just something to check into. But then if you live near a doc who participates in fill centers the fills are 160 bucks.

Can you ever eat 'regular' food again?

It's up to your doc. You paid all that money so take his/her advice, right? Mine was very down to earth and it was eat what you can tolerate, make better choices, and when introducing a new food since banded, eat only one or two bites to wait and see if it will go down. Even after two years I can't eat a whole sandwich. Tonight for my 1am hunger I had 1 slice of bread w/ some Peanut Butter. If I try to eat a 6 inch from Subway it will come back up.

    Universal Orlando food

I don't see why not, unless it's a buffet. Am going to Disneys/Universals/SeaWorld (all 8 parks) in a few weeks w/ my daughter. No way am I spending that kind of inflated money on TWO Entrees. I'll just get a drink and eat her leftovers. But bumping this thread to see if anyone has gone to theme parks, particularly Sea World and Universal.

do you need an unfill for surgery?

Weigh the risks. Some can't tolerate the anesthesia well and go into convulsions when waking up. Would that be you? Again, it's about risk. Rhinoplasty or anything else where blood would pool up in your stomach....definitely get an unfill because vomiting it up is part of coming out of anesthesia.

    Sleeping Positions & Habits

I am a tummy sleeper and the first few days wasn't able to...so I slept on the couch. Uncomfortable but not as uncomfortable as being in bed and not being able to sleep on my stomach. By weeks end I was on my tummy again- no problem.

    What should I bring?

I brought a change of clothing (cotton w/ elastic band), toothbrush/toothpaste, hairbrush, socks and slip on shoes. Nothing else is needed unless your doc advises you on it. The more you bring is the more you have to tote home.

Feeling like you can't stop eating?

Why are you trying to manage this? You are healing, not dieting or losing weight. The lapband isn't meant to be implanted then wake up with the scales going down. It's meant to be implanted, allow you to heal, and then work on your adjustments. Don't be so hard on yourself. Eat and enjoy it while you can.
  17. I moved to NC last year and had an unfill before cosmetic surgery by a radiologist who did the best he could at a local hospital..... I finally found a doc just outside Concord/Kannapolis who does adjustments for $160. And when I went the other day, he was prepping the Fluid and I asked about a local (as I've always had lidocaine)....he said he doesn't use it and it's just an extra prick. Panic set in but in one try he got it! Was amazed as we all know how ports can move around. Just wanted to share in case someone else is looking for adjustments like I was and couldn't find anyone.

    Can we eat Nutri-system dinners???????

Sure you can. You can eat anything if you can tolerate it. But like with anything else, when you first introduce a food after banding, you want to take it easy to ensure you can eat it. I do the NutriSystem thing but cheapy...I go to Walmart and stock up on the frozen WW or Lean Cuisine meals. And yes, the Pasta is good!

Is eating Cereal a bad thing?

Cereal is the best thing every when you are craving something...want something crunchy/cold..... I keep Total around, throw some fruit on there if I want to mix it up.

How did you get through the preop diet?

There was no way I could NOT eat...as an overeater and binger I'd crack. But because I knew this about myself...I did something crazy- took a cruise to Mexico for a few days so my kids (single mom) would have things to do and I wouldn't have to do any cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.

I will go with you to Mexico!!! HEHE

I've been twice to Tijuana for various things and have always taken a sister along...for the company. And yes, I offer to pay the airfare because they are not vacationing...they are keeping me company. So I'm sure any of your friends or family that go, too would pay for your airfare (if they wanted your company)

    Southeast Bariatrics BEWARE

Lapband.com listed these people in Charlotte NC as a practice taking on 'out of towners' meaning those who are either traveling or move-ins (which is me....moved last year across the country) They will not disclose their fee schedule until you make an appointment (they won't tell me how much that is either). Seems they want to make $$$ from a 'new patient' exam and then they tell you how much visits are and adjustments will be. Don't fall for it! There are too many practices taking on move-ins as the economy is tight.
  23. My nose now fits my face. A few people have posted how their nose doesn't shrink with the rest of them....it happened to me too. Had rhinoplasty almost 2 weeks ago and the bandages came off a few days ago. I now look proportinate! I'm under goal weight and have stablized my weight from fluctuating. My hope is I can start my new journey. But the band is always there- it's got my back!

More restriction with humidity or higher temps?

Interesting post. I was doing fine on maintenance out west in a dry cold climate. Moved to NC- hot and humid and within 2 months starting sliming every day. Could be, is all I can answer....could be.

    Band Surgeons Lookup

I contacted 4 docs on that lapband.com site you gave.....they are 1 1/2 hours away but they all said they would take on new move-in patients. Thanks again!
