Doctors in Greensboro, NC
lapbandtalker replied to shakia90's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi from Thomasville! -
hair loss is a side effect of weightloss...not just the band. So, those with the band can and probably will lose hair, too. I've been on maintenance since January and I still lose more hair in the shower than normal.

Any bingers cured after surgery?
lapbandtalker replied to Liz1531's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No. I'm on maintenance and from time to time I still binge. Of course it's not an entire bag of chips a 2 liter soda and pizza anymore. It's more like 5 Cookies or 2 handfulls of chips. I binged last week on a bowl of icecream...yeah, an entire bowl! It took 38 years to get this way, it's gonna take a few years to undo this. -
Thought everybody would need to see this

"They were looking for any flaws that could be found on clinics that perform gastric bands surgical procedures." Hey, why go all the way to Mexico to do this story. They could have saved the money and stayed in the states. There are multiple places that have had complications with patients. -

Do you have to plan your meals? As in, do you "diet"?
lapbandtalker replied to dietpeach's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I planned my meals during my entire weightloss phase. Now that I'm on maintenance, it's become habit to buy foods I can eat at the store. I just go into the pantry and can whip up something. -
traveling by air and tightness of band
lapbandtalker replied to susieca's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sipping Water is fine. Unless you are on an extrememly long flight without layovers, you won't really need to drink anything. I get layovers from east to west coast because the fare is cheaper, but allows me time to eat! -
How many fills / ccs before you feel restriction...
lapbandtalker replied to ReadyInCT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, it took a little more than half the max cc in the band. I had a 4cc band and it took about 2.5cc to get restriction. Luckily, once I got restriction I did not ever have to go back for an adjustment. Once I reached my goal (actually 10 pounds past my goal) I went in for a slight unfill. Good luck! -
Are there foods you can't eat anymore?
lapbandtalker replied to dietpeach's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
While I was loosing and when first on maintenance, there were a few foods I would NOT EVER eat again....bad experience. But yesterday I ate a peach, with the peeling. Haven't tried an apple yet - not that brave. I have no problem with pizza, one of my favorite foods. I don't do Pizza Hut or Dominoes anymore, but I do make my own or eat the frozen ones. -
Congrats, you are now wiser! Thanks for sharing your story. I know when I was loosing I relied heavily on the band. Now that I'm on maintenance, I still rely on the band but less and less each passing month.

Thick "crud" in back of throat after eating...
lapbandtalker replied to Elizabethdb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, eating a few grapes while reading your post and the 'crud' is starting in the back of my throat as well. Others will post EXACTLY what it is but I can tell you it's totally normal and is one of many signals a body can have to sound the alert enough food has been consumed. "just one more" is what I say alot...but be careful with that as it can cause sliming. Congrats on your progress. -
Too soon to vacuum?
lapbandtalker replied to GratefulHeart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc says if it hurts, don't do it. So you may be alright. Just be careful. For me, I wasn't able to vacuum for a few weeks. I didn't do any stooping for laundry, either. You are a really strong woman! Congrats on being banded! -
someone help me during this trying time....!
lapbandtalker replied to jacole1820's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The band was made to overcome just your issue. I've experienced many life stressors over the past year or so and have 'binged'....but the band keeps me in check. It's a great tool. -
Bread, Bread, Bread, I love Bread! (Well not so much...)
lapbandtalker replied to amylovescookies's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OUCH! I've encountered similar things and there are certain types of breads I won't even attempt to eat. In a few years I may be braver. Today at lunch I ordered a hotdog. I took one bite then just ate the toppings...no meat or bread. After I had that happen, I just took it easy. Sometimes you'll bounce back faster than others. Others will post to this but good luck and you're doing great! -
When I remember, I take 2 Flintstones.

Longterm nutrition and health with a band
lapbandtalker replied to Cedar Brett's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've seen advertised on tv the new realize band that comes with 3 years counseling after banding. This just drives it home that just because someone gets the band, meets goal, and a few months go by....they are so not done readjusting. It does take years. I'm over a year out and met goal 10 months ago AND slime from time to time. I find with each passing month I get better and better but sometimes I backslide. But with anything new...this will happen. My doc says things are normal and it will take more than just a few years to undo 40 years of bad eating habits. Give yourself a break. You decide if you are where you want to be. You set your schedule. If fluids are killing you and you want to eat more, you can opt for an unfill. But if you want to continue on for a while longer, fine. Just talk to your doctor, they will help guide you in your decision making.
