Although every post-op plans differs, I am allowed to have fruit juices post op if they are diluted 50% with water. I would suggest that if you are using fresh fruit in a juicer that you strain the juice so it truly is a clear liquid for the the first week or so. But, of course ask your surgeon or dietician to be sure what is the best for you! Good luck.

Hi and welcome! I'm new here too and have a lot of the same feelings you do. I'm worried about my recovery time and how I'll manage my kids. I don't want them to have to suffer because of me. I'm sure we'll get through it some how. Good luck in your journey. -

Welcome, I'm new too, just got my date of November 10th! It's nice to "meet" you. Good luck on your journey. -
My name is Lisa and I stumbled upon this sight as I was reading up for my lap band surgery. I just got my approval letter and will be scheduling my surgery in the morning, but it looks like it should be around November 10th. I'm excited and nervous at the same time and am very happy to find a forum filled with others who have been there before or are just starting the journey like me! :grouphug:

Hello Everyone

I have the time in my extended illness bank, but I can only take what the Dr. will sign for me to take. I see him on Monday, so I'm going to ask him for three weeks. It can never hurt to ask! -
Thanks for the advice. I will talk to someone in HR and see if they can black out the name if it's not too late. My problem seems small compared to the situations that others on this thread have relayed. I can't believe the gall of some people who think they are better. Every person has issues, some aren't quite as obvious as others. All I can suggest is be proud of yourself, hold your head high and smile a lot. Remember...They can't get your goat if they don't know where it's tied!

I had to tell my Director that I was having surgery and ask permission because the surgery date is only 20 days out instead of the 30 required by policy. When I asked her for the time off, she emailed me back and said, "I'm surprised, I didn't know you were thinking about surgery". I do not have a good relationship with this woman, and think she is a hateful, evil person. Of course I would not have told her I was planning on having surgery until I knew for sure. What irritates me the most is that I know when my medical leave form comes to her from HR that she will google my surgeon's name to find out what kind of surgery he does. I don't want her to know, but I know she will dig to find out anyway because of the kind of person she is. I certainly intend to hold her to the strictest of employee/employer relationships!

I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope it gets easiser for you.

What happened with your experience that would cause you to not do it again?

Hello Everyone

Hi there, I'm in the Cincinnati area and will have my surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital by Dr. Kerlakian. How long did you take off work? My surgeon said a week, but I've read that if you have a physical job it could be 2-3 weeks. I'm a nurse manager in an ER and could have to lift, move or restrain someone at any time. I requested two weeks of FML just to be sure, but I certainly don't want to mess up my band! -
Told my MIL- that was a mistake, LOL

I have made the decision to NOT tell my parents because I know my mom will be very judgemental of me and say all of the things that your mother-in-law said. My Dr's office had some great ideas to explain why I won't be eating much on Thanksgiving, (I'm having my surgery around Nov 10th). The best tip was to tell her that I am serious about losing weight and not waiting until the new year to begin to do it. That's it, end of discussion, and no thank you, I don't want any dessert this year! I'm sure my mom will figure it out in the long run because she's convinced I'm sloppy and have no will power just because I'm overweight. She would never believe I had it in me to "lose" the weight the "easy" way. I'm fortunate to have a loving husband and mother-in-law as my support people. -
After going to all of the informational sessions that the various Dr's in Cincinnati offered, I chose Dr. Kerlakian as my physician. I liked Dr. Curry, but did not like that he was not in a network with any insurance company and I would have to prepay a large sum of money, (I don't remember the amount). Dr. Kerlakian was a good fit for me with my insurance and the physician. He was very practical with me and explained everything. I made the final decision to have my surgery and payed my program fee about a month ago, I flew through the rest of the details and appointments. I just got my approval letter and am expecting to have surgery around November 11th!
