  2. This is the first I ever heard of this....... Usually people suffer from GERD. I suffered a slip, and trust me you don't want to go there. Do yourself a favor, and go see your Dr., even a slight unfill followed by liquids is a good thing. Your in this for life ! Adjustments are Adjustments, whether you go up or down is part of the game, and it is necessary. You could take a pill, get stuck, and swell up, and need to be unfilled for a while. Thats the band, a Life of Maintenance by your Dr., but you already know this, and if not, you do now. Check it out with the Dr. but please do something.

  3. No, I definately wouldn't have lap band ! I don't know too much about gastric bypass but in hindsight, that seems more realistic to me now. I felt that the lap band would be less invasive and body altering. I lost the recommended 13lbs. pre-surgically. My surgery went fantastic. I had it done at 5 PM and I was back home by 9PM same day. Next day, and for about a week I had severe gas pain in my chest. I had some incision pain for about 3 weeks. I am 20 months post surgery. I have only lost 50 lbs., I get "stuck" every day and I am hungry alot. Sometimes I even get stuck on Water. I have had fills then fills removed, more fills, more removed, finally I thought things were great and then almost every time I ate.... the food got stuck, so I opted to have some removed and haven't gone back to the doctor as I am disgusted. My goal was to lose 134 lbs.. I don't think I will ever even hit 100lbs. One year ago I was cooking roast beef. I took it out of the oven and took a teeny bite to see how it tasted and immediately got stuck. I ended up going to the ER because after 6 hours, I couldn't get unstuck. I was constantly "slimeing" large amounts, I tried to vomit because that is what it felt like I should do. I think I brought up the meat but a mucous ball had formed blocking everything up. I was on the brink of hysteria. It happened about 2 PM and I finally was back home in bed at 1 AM. Very tiring and discouraging day for me and I will never forget. Cost me $1500 in the ER and that is WITH insurance. Some days I am tearing the kitchen apart trying to find low cal. food to eat cause I'm hungery alot. Other days, I am full after eating a few bites and feel like I will vomit if I go on, which is fine, that is what I want. But I would like more consistency. I also feel severely guilty wasting food. I must also say that my exercise routine is lacking because I had a knee replacement in July and now my other knee is also going bad and I'm probably headed for knee replacement #2 . I think the best part of this is that I now drink lots of Water. I used to drink copious amounts of soda, but no more soda. That is my discouraging story. Maybe other people had better luck than I did.

I just suffered a slip that caused me to DIE, and after 4 minutes of chest compressions they jolted me. That brought me back. They explained in x-ray that they see more and more now that the band has been around a while. "What did you think your the only one !" Well i figured low numbers, and he laughed and said we see more and more, but your lucky ! Your still alive, most die from the slip. I thought I was going to faint, what I truly loved, killed me.

So if your having problems, and your not happy with your results, see your Dr., and tell them how its working for you, and how you feel, before you end up like i did. In other words do something about it instead of complain. Or the outcome will be do to your own decision.

To th person that started the thread: do your research on which band has the potential for less of a slip.

  4. Well I live up in Northern, Michigan, and was sent to a big Medical Center in Central, Michigan. Nevertheless,,,, no one there does Bariatrics. So I have to wait until May 1, and see my surgeon, but this is very painful. They are to get all reports, and film, and if they think that I have to go in ahead of time,,,,, then I have to go "thats fine by me"...They should me that I have 2 bands connected by plumbing. The bottom one is failing to open, and it is grooved in, this is what caused all the bleeding. The Lower Left Lung was gone on x-ray, it was being smothered by the stomach that slipt, and stayed swollen threw the band. I'm glad its a little better buy now, and on occasion, I can even get a breath in there. Thats how they ruled it a slip, because everything came up threw, and it would unswell, then the position of the band.

    Thanks for asking Jean.

    Shirley.

  5. Jean: I took a swallow, and it felt like a swallow, but something dropped down, and something moved up, and stayed in place. The next thing I new I couldn't even keep Water down, and then it went to coffee grounds, to pure raw blood. When they stuck a scope down the stomach, and said their was a obstruction, they pumped off 1/2 a canister of BLOOD.

  6. I was sent back because i couldn't breath. My Dr. wasn't sure as to what happed to the lower left lung, but on x-ray it was gone. So i went back to the E.R.. The band en-strangled the stomach so that it popped up threw the band, and cupped itself around the lung. The X-Ray Dr. remembered me, and was glad to see that the stomach was dropping back down, so no reason to TAP the lung, because whatever little Fluid is there,,, will work itself out.

But the 6 seizures in a row with no medical problem in that area, and a normal MRI. Even the Neurologist new there was nothing wrong with me, and it was a result of the slip.

Keep in mind: were talking about a lady that worked out 3x a week in the gym, 800-1200 calorie a day diet, not a care in the world, only our future in our economy.

Now I need a cane to walk to the bathroom, Push Fluids only, from the CPR and the Paddles I feel like I have been kicked in the chest by a mule,Black n Blue everywhere, I lost my License for 6 months, and I'm Homebound. All this changed in a flash.

I'm still a firm believer in the band for a life change, and control, but please do your research, and go with one that works.

That 4cc band was a dynamite band ! But 50/50 odds that it will fail or won't is just not worth the after effects to me. Do yourself a favor people, and pick a different size.

  7. I was banded on 11/31/06 and its had its ups and downs. but you would have never caught me saying anything until now. I would highley recomend a different size band. That band was dropped here in the states do to being defective, and I can believe it.

The Thursday before GOOD FRIDAY I was admitted into the Hospital for a slip. The band was strangled the esophagus, wich was squeezing on all the nerves, wich caused a serious of seizures. "no I don't have a seizure disorder" after the 6 th. one my Heart stopped, and I died, they started CPR then Jolted me back after 4 minutes. I'm GLAD to still be here with no complications either. I was told that the old 4 cc band is a 50/50 chance that it will either fail or not after 5 plus years. To the above people that it has lasted, I wish mine did to, but its not ment to be.

I feel like I been kicked in the chest by a mule, and I'm Black, and Blue Everywhere, so yes i hurt, but i'm very lucky to be alive.

If I could give you a piece of advice, I would say pick another size, and save yourself a headache, and heartache.

I have to make arrangements for complete removal, and I feel like i'm having my heart cut out.

But I got a second chance, and i'm not blowing it. So avoid the problem period, and don't pick a band that was dropped by the FDA, get your moneys worth, unless you like to gamble.

I was offered the new band, but I didn't want to get cut again. I should have done it.

  8. you need to keep track of your calories, and go slow. I didn't here a Protein shake in there, and thats a must.!

Go to myfitnesspal.com and open a account, its free ! You can keep track of calories, and exercise, and it will record your calorie burn. I like to stay under 1200 calories a day. I'm losingintime on that site, and i can friend you in. This will help your problem, but you must follow a plan.

  9. Thank You for your concern. If I new now "I DIED" back then that it would be a 50/50 thing, I would have never, ever had this done. I been a member here for many years, and a advocate for anyone that will hear me. I can only go by what I now know, and how I feel. and its better to go to myfitnesspal.com and monitor your caloric intake vs a 50/50 chance of living vs dieing. I don't like those odds, it happened in 1 swallow, and it caused me to leave this earth for 4 minutes. They pumped my stomach, and 1/2 of that cannula was filled with Blood. I was told I was lucky to be alive "which shocked me, with there new study, most people that suffer a slip don't make it...." I can't even remember how many different type of Dr.'s that I had that said the same thing.

Yet I know 9 out of 10 people will disagree with this. I did to,,, until those Dr.'s made that statement. It really sunk in when I got home. How I cried...... Now I no I have to have it taken out, I'm facing a firring squad., and there is no way that I will do this again. I might not get another chance.

My Husband is home taking care of me, and I never thought that this would happen to me.

This is very dangerous surgery. Yes it has been successful for a lot of people, and allot of people have had problems.

If your Dr. is backing off, I would sure ask as of why? Print this paper if you want, and take it in for him to read, and get his 2 cents on it. It might help with any questions.

    Shirley.

  10. Your slip... are you talking slip and fall or your band slipped? Seizure activity comes from the brain, not the stomach.... if you slipped and fell I can imagine that... to have repetitive seizures is a toughy... maybe from your left lung being infected? or inflammed? what do you mean by engulfed?

Glad you are feeling better though...

The Band Slipped ! My esophagus was being strangled, so it was squeezing the nerves, this is what caused the seizure activity, that lead to the Heart stopping. I'm glad I don't remember a thing. I'm even more happier to have gotten a second chance.

Don't think its blaming the band, when i should be blaming something else...

Not when it is 100% the fault of a defective band. The Doctors discovered that in the Hospital when nothing would go down, and the emptying the band Fluid would go threw.

So it is what it is...

  11. I suffered a slip on Thursday, went into a serious of seizures from the band, was Hospitalized at Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City, Michigan.

"Am I glad I was Shipped there !" I suffered the 6th seizure in the E.R., and they lost me. I was gone for 4 minutes, then they jolted me back, and I c ame back. I had no idea who I was or where I was, or why I was there. They explained it to me, as they monitored me in CCU. I came home yesterday, but the band is strangling the stomach, which in turn has the lower left lung engulfed. So 1/2 of that lung is not functional, So breathing is very difficult.

My job now is to relax ! Thats what they want, then to make arrangements for the removal of this malfunctioning band. There are 2 bands connected through pluming, just to be abled to be called the band , UP TO 3 HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO BE PUT ON. and interlocked to control your stomach. I never knew that this was done. I have the report, so i'm going to see what it all says, when i'm up to snuff. I was dead for 4 minutes though, so I'm all Puffy.

There are know known after effects, all tests have come back normal. So I will recover. But they told me that I have to arrange for the rremoval of the band, or it will kill me in time. They are seeing more and more now, of people that have been been banded for 5 plus years, that the band will either fail or not, 50/50. So its a dangerous business that were all involved in, trust me it is very painful. I will have mine removed, as I have no choice.

I only wish the best to all of you.

Back fro a second chance, Shirley.
