I received this advice from my surgeon that performed my surgery. (I NOW HAVE A NEW ONE.) Protein is like Gas in the Tank for you. This is true. When you eat your protein, like dinner. Have some Carb.. Why? I said. Because it's a kicker to the protein. So I tried it, and this too is true. If you have a piece of meat for dinner, maybe you want to add 1/4 cup instant mashed potatoes. Now you don't have to eat it all, but there is your kicker You will feel the difference with the Energy Level. Good Health to you. Shirley.

Wrapping My Brain around this
54Shirley replied to Dibley Dawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well it's all been said ! So I'll leave my view from what use to be a Detroit Girl. Your in one city, and I was from another. Regardless I know what you are talking about.. Water I GULP it ! My first surgeon had me bottoms up a huge glass, and it better go down. Because if it started coming up. He new you were a tad to tight. I drank it like that in front of my new P A. I thought she was going to have a Heart Attack... She told me no ! don't do that ! So for her it was sips. even though I explained his thinking. She was still saying no. So,,, if I'm real thirsty, I chug water ! Just not Ice Cold,,,, because it makes your throat close up. So before you are off and running, first experiment and walk. You know what I mean.? Now FAT BURGERS! You can eat some once in a while, but grill them, make them good, but with less s**t on them (NO OFFENCE) You can have Ketchup, Mustard, Lettuce, Tomatoes, cheese..... Now if you switch to Turkey burgers, and season them, They are good ! You can have beef, but not all the time. Turkey Ground and cooked with is very good. It picks up the flavor. like Chili, Spaghetti Sauce, Meatballs, Meatloaf just to give you a idea. All is not lost my friend, It is just beginning, and it is good. You can only eat so much anyway, So don't plan on indulging all the time. (IT DON'T WORK THAT WAY!) And last, don't forget. The day will come when you are having what they call "your last supper" Trust me,, it's not the end of the world. It is the beginning of a new life for you.. After a few fills, and you begin to lose the Hunger Beast. You will care less about eating. That is the TRUTH ! One step at a time. Will your band need replacement down the road? I'm sure it will someday, and your surgeon will fix it. This is not that hard to figure out. Ask your surgeon if you ever need repairs in the future? Will he be the one to fix you up? I hope this helps some. Because I just touched on some of your questions. You will learn as you are banded about how this all works. Good Health to you NEW YORK ! I hope some of these answers from all these people have helped. -
I Have both, and it covers 3 different types of WLS. go on Medicare.com and choose the government site. You can scroll down, and find their Bariatric surgery, and read what it covers in their coverage. Or give them a call, and they will tell you. But yes it is covered. I would hope you have something to pick up the 20% when it comes to Dr. visits.

Is an EKG and a Chest CT normal pre-op testing before surgery?
54Shirley replied to isabella2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as I know yeah. So was other things like shrink, Physical therapist, Internal Medicine. If that's all you got, then that's pretty good. -
Make sure you do your Protein shakes,,, they will help kill the hunger beast. Even some help helps. Keep focused.:juggle: Shirley.

Since I moved, it was hard to find a New Surgeon. But I did find one, and I meet him today. I hope he accepts me as a patient, because I need to have a surgeon, but they only like success stories. So they will take pictures, and weigh me. I hope we hit it off good, and he is impressed with the weight loss, as time goes on. Also I am due for a fill. Hope I get one.

I walk , but I can't walk far. Both knees are artificial. So my Orth Doc. told me no exercise at all... Just walk. That didn't go over well with my WLSurgeon. Like I told him, If he says walk that;s what I'm doing. He checked with a Ortho guy that he knew, and was told "that was very good advice. So that's my story, and I'm sticking to it ! The good part is IT WORKS! -

I brought down my summer cloths to swap out my winter cloths here in Michigan. I found some Capri's that I wore last summer that were to big. Now yes they tie, so I could have looked like I was wearing a potato sack this summer , but,,,,, I don't think so. So I dug a little deeper in my box, and found summer cloths from when I lost weight the first time. I'm glad I kept all of them. I went from a size 32 to a 22/24. Now some people are starting at where I ended up. But what a difference in looks, and nice colors instead of Black, Grey, and Navy. I found Yellows, Mint, Khaki, and well you get the idea. They look nice. Just thought I would share the good news instead of vent. Shirley. -

Never got the chance to meet him..... He had emergency surgery. So that was a waisted trip. 108 miles one way then another back, but no Doc... At least I filled out a chart and got weighed. Now I need to learn how to move that TURTLE... Any body know how? -
Look for a Center of Excellence in Bariatrics, in your area. Just a good tip.

It sure does feel good ! Up North in Michigan where we live, you have a lot of women who are retired, and they have gotten heavy. You can go to Kmarts and buy up to a 4x. So these cloths in a second hand store, will go like wild fire, and will be put to good use. When I lost the weight before I donated everything I had. So I had to re-buy for myself. I'm glad to see it go. -

I will see tomorrow if he wants to change this 4cc band in to a newer model. Also if he will continue to see me as a patient. I hope so ! I been busting my butt trying to do all the right stuff. So far for me today,,, "IT PAYED OFF BIG TIME" I got my summer cloths out, and shorts were a 32 Now that's big. I went into different cloths that I kept, as I was losing weight the first time. I sure am glad I kept them. I am in a 22/24 and some gorgeous colors for the summer. Not to mention,,, I don't look to bad neither. Should be a nice summer, If this Dr. takes me on. I'm almost tempted to take a pair of Capri pants down with me, just in case he don't believe it. Shirley.

Doctor Scale and Home Scale - which is correct?
54Shirley replied to healthyroad69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are suppose to wear light clothing, like summertime clothing. If you can't cause it's winter here in Michigan. We are given a gown to were, and all the heavy cloths come off. Otherwise light cloths, shoes come off, and pockets are emptied before we get weighed. Once weighed you get dressed to see the Dr.... -
How much does your pouch hold?
54Shirley replied to Stephy5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
mine is set up for 4oz. at a shot, but if I do 4oz, I feel uncomfortable. So I measure 3 and deal with it. Otherwise I was always told that I was just to sensitive. So if I eat 4 oz. I have to chase that down with water. -
My surger is Tmrow!!!! SCARED!!!!
54Shirley replied to kimbrown27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About the super dry mouth (FOR SURE !) They can't give you water, so if they can't,,,,, ask for a wet washcloth for your mouth. They should be able to give you that.
