Lose this person, and get another. It's your money ! The last thing you need is someone dragging you down, because you want to do the right thing. That's not fare. Try a physical Therapy place, you may have to call a few, but,,, they are renting out their Gym to you on a monthly basis (LOT CHEAPER I"M SURE). All the equipment is there, you know your program, Go for it.. Also,,,, some have pools, and you can AQUACISE. or Water Aerobics, Same thing my guess. I called a place up here where I live, and I don't even have to be a prior patient. So for $30.00 a month,,,,, I will have use of the entire Gym. Thats where I am going this Winter. For now I will Walk. Good Luck, Shirley

I can't think of any one that didn't have doubts, or wasn't scared. In the long run it's worth it. A baby has to crawl before it walks right? If he stands up, and falls, it might take a while to think about it, but eventually that baby will do the right thing. Get up and take some steps. ONE AT A TIME. Thats making Progress. Thats what this is. You are helping yourself, no matter what it takes, and yes that is enough to make you scared.

Did anyone wake up during surgery?
54Shirley replied to MCCLB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's interesting. I did speak to the doc who scoped my knee about the pac man chewing threw my knee, I told him to pump some quarters into that knee !? I was 1/2 out of it. I hope this helps out because it sure is scary to the surgeon. Surprised, and shocked that their patient woke up. But I remember every detail. I wish I could have been under for a reason, woke up, and would have been educated say for a test. You don't miss a beat. -
You already said the answer. So you no what to do. Eat to live ! that is the success of the whole thing. You have to find other things that interest you now, so that it fills the void. This site is very informative, I'm sure you know that.. What you dish out you get back in life. That's a fact. Donate 1 or 2 days a week to a Nursing home just to read to the patients, or a food pantry (times are hard). This way you will build confidence in whatever you choose, and keep your mind off of food. Especially since that seems to be a major concern in your life. Join a Physical Therapy Gym (much cheaper, no contract) Believe me, Life goes on. With or without food. Remember it's just fuel for the system. Even the poor, and the Hungry are trying to get buy. It's a day by day thing for everyone. That includes you. Good Health to you, Shirley.

ALL OF A SUDDEN!!!!!
54Shirley replied to muffin56's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeons rule, is that when you get filled under fluoroscopy, they can see how much to put in. So your fill should keep you full for 5 - 5 1/2 hrs.. When you get down to hungry every 2 or 3 hrs., it's time for a fill. It's nice to go 5 hrs., and not even give eating a thought.. Waite for a few days, and if things don't go back to normal for you, then you need a fill. -

The Hernia Repair Surgeon was not far from it. Scared him to Death. -
What food should I have in kitchen for 1st two weeks?
54Shirley replied to 43coco's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since this is your 2nd. band, you should find out from him exactly what he wants you to do. Clear soups (MEANING YOU CAN SEE YOUR SPOON IN THE CUP) are fine, stock is good. Jello or Jello Water is good too. But check with him. Good Health to you, Shirley -
Did anyone wake up during surgery?
54Shirley replied to MCCLB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I woke up on the following surgeries: 1. Hernia Repair 2. Hernia repair (again) He pulled on the sewing, and I sat wright up, and just looked at him. Scared the crap out of him. He told me to lay back down that he's not finished. (with his hands still in my abdomen) I did and he started to say something to the Anesthesiologist, and I went out. 3 knee Arthroscopic Surgery I woke up to find a women at the front of my surgery bed, up in the air,,, DANCING ON A TABLE, TO MOTOWN MUSIC. The Surgeon said is she up? she looked down on me, and said yep ! she's up. So the surgeon said to me look up here at the T.V Shirley. I'm playing PAC MAN with your knee. You can't even begin to imagine how I felt. That turned in to a STAPH INFECTION. 4. Knee replacement I woke up from the banging of a hammer, and I thought you don't even want to know. All these are True, and forever in my memory. -
Go back to liquids for a couple days, then 1 day mushies, then try to eat.

Did anyone wake up during surgery?
54Shirley replied to MCCLB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I woke up for everyone except the band, and my last knee replacement. I heard the pounding of the hammer with the first artificial knee, woke up and my surgeon smiled at me, and told the anesthesiologist to knock me out, he did. So I told them that I wake up easy in surgery, and they know what to do. So I didn't wake up for the other knee. -
Help with Pre Op diet, I'm starving!!
54Shirley replied to Itsmichelle2you's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein helps kill hunger, so drink some shakes . I would not get in the habit of chewing GUM. We are not allowed to, after being banded. because how would you get it out if it slipped down your throat? We were told surgery is the only way to get it out. -
When I went to Henry Fords Bariatric Center in Detroit, They explained to us that because of our weight our Hormones were all over the place. So as I watched some women cry for whatever reason We were told that we were all Depressed. This was cause from the Hormones. I can believe that ! Because when I was at my highest weight 356. There were times out of the blue, that the tears would flow, and I would be asking myself why? So like I said, when this was explained, I could really relate to what they were talking about.

High schoolers with lap band?
54Shirley replied to Camillekreasons's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your banded in the summer, you will be fine buy the time school starts. You will see in time that the weight will drop like it's HOT. People will also notice the Transformation. It's up to you if you want to keep it your own business, or share the wealth once you start seeing the difference, and are confident about your weight loss. Good Health to you, Shirley. -
Mine was closed with Glue too... Where he put the Port, he stitched it from the inside, and closed the outside with Krazy Glue. They have another name for it, but when I asked him Krazy Glue? He said Ah ha ! Worked beautifully too.

MarieC Welcome aboard ! -
Cardinal rule was NO WAY ! With some Dr.'s that has changed, if they new it was for short time, and Medically Necessary. You may also consider a injection in the inflamed area. See what you Doc. has to say.

Q for those with joint pain and/or osteoarthritis
54Shirley replied to Rachel412's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had extremely bad OA. in both knees. I use to take Osteo Bi-Flex for it, it took about 3 weeks, and it felt like my joints were oiled, they moved ! They were getting really stiff, not to mention they hurt like hell. I went to a Orthopedic Surgeon, and he said my knees were shot, (WHICH I NEW) and I would have to have Bariatric Surgery, and loose 100lbs. before he'd touched me. (INSURANCE IN HIS OPINION, SO I WOULD NOT REGAIN ALL MY WEIGHT. YEAGH RIGHT !) I said that's it? Yep ! Come back n a year. I said I'll see you when it comes off. I lost 100lbs., went back to him, and he started to replace my knees, Right one first. They were bone on bone, and literally starting to have holes in the knee. I asked if I had bone cancer, and he said NO your weight wore them out. So for some people if it gets to this stage, I wouldn't be surprised. I wish you all luck, and good health. But both mine are replaced, I walk unassisted, and am pain free. Shirley. -
Has any old timers made it with never throwing up or getting stuck?
54Shirley replied to JWKJR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This Halloween will be 5 years banded for me I have been stuck, thrown up, swollen up, just never ended up in a Hospital. Since I have a new surgeon, and he filled this 4cc band to 2.75cc Nothing gets stuck ! The band is filled more, so I eat less, but nothing gets stuck as long as I chew. So same band, Different Surgeons, and different techniques.. It makes a difference. -
If you still got stitches in you, for sure it's going to hurt. Try like at the end of every week, to lay on your side until your not so sensitive. Eventually you will. Well your still healing so that can be anything. Watch how you drink your Water. easy! Try to swallow a little at a time. If you can, you will know it. From your port to your band is the tubing. That might be what you are feeling. I know I feel mine sometimes. If your comfortable with it, and it's not giving you any problems. You should be good to go.

7 days post-op left side stabbing pain
54Shirley replied to teekii77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On my first surgery (GALLBLADDER) They filled me full of air, I looked like a round balloon. The gas was painful. I saw the Doc about 10 days later for stitches to be removed, and told him about the pain. He said when you walk, it moves. As a result it comes out. It sure did ! for a long time So you will see if you go walking some, does it help. I would also call my Doctor. Good Luck. -
Got any good Mushy food ideas?
54Shirley replied to Wheeler5051's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is a good recipe for the mushie stage, and its good. Small can crushed pineapple (DRAINED) 8oz cool whip small cottage cheese 1 small box Jello (any flavor that you like or think would go good with pineapple like strawberry.) put the powder jello in a large bowel for mixing (NO WATER!) add the cool whip , stir until blended, add cheese, and stir until blended. then add in the pineapple, and stir. Refrigerate over night. This makes a great low cal salad. Great for Pot Luck at Parties this summer. cottage cheese, string cheese, yogurt, oatmeal, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, sugar free pudding, applesauce, Protein shakes, and anything soft and mushie that you can think of or puree.
