Only on day 1 of pre-op diet and already hungry/bored...HELP!!
54Shirley replied to lee_nyc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go on ebay and type in MUSCLE MILK. MUSCLE MILK LIGHT will also come up. That's what you want The Lady that I deal with usually has strawberry Milkshake on for $5.99 a jug ( that's cheap, and,,, it's good stuff) Just look for the price, and you will find her, also, sometimes she has other flavors like chocolate Peanut Butter blend. She also combines shipping, so you can't go wrong. While your on the site,, look around, and see the different flavors, and prices. Sometimes you get lucky and someone is selling something at a reasonable price. My advice is if you see it buy it because you may not get that chance again. (DON"T BUY THERE CHOCOLATE, IT'S LOUSEY). There chocolate milk is excellent. Have fun shopping, Shirley. -
Normal to get stuck &/or throw up everyday?
54Shirley replied to flgirl4u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have to , go back to the basics for a few days. Just Liquids, then mushies. Then chew your food to mush, and take your time eating. If you feel it getting hung up, don't continue to eat. Instead take a glass of warm water, and slowly drink it down until you are clear. This is better then throwing up, and it works. -

Taking new meds with weight gain as a side effect
54Shirley replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well,,,,, you have lived without these pills that are prescribed by a Family Doctor wright. If your comftorable with what you are currently taking. I would waite untill I see the specialist, and let them prescribe the proper Meds. I have Hypothyroidism, and have been on 2 of the wrong Meds for years. I told her I want to go to a Endocrinologist. She thought about it and said your wright ! Were not getting anywhere if these Meds are not Treating your problem. So it took about 4 months, and he explained to me that Family Dr.'s really don't know much about this. So forget the past, today we are starting Fresh. So I asked him what if these Meds. don't work? I'll change your Meds then. That was 3 months ago. I see him this month, and see how things are going. (I ALREADY FEEL BETTER) and my Family Dr. never even heard of these Meds. It goes with the Professional Field. Put your Faith in the specialist, just like you did with your Bariatric Surgeon. Myself I would Wait, if your good to go with what you been taking. If not,,, then make the change. Shirley -
what is a normal chew?
54Shirley replied to options123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 5 yrs. out, so I have a idea on this. I chew until it is all mush stage, and the piece that I cut up, is about the size of a dime. For sure take your time. It gives it a chance to empty from the pouch into the stomach, so you can eat a little more. Also sounds like you have a fill in there. So eating less is not uncommon, as your stomach shrinks, but the band is still the size that fit your stomach before. (I HOPE YOU FOLLOW THAT.) you will see your band will take on more food. That's how you know it's shrinking. So if you keep your eye on the clock, and see how many hrs. it takes you to be physically hungry, and do this for a couple of days. You will be able to predict when you will be hungry say every 4 hrs... If you get down to you can eat anything every 2 hrs. It's time for a fill. This is a idea on how to keep in touch with your body, with this band. I hope some of this was informative to you. If you ever feel hung up or stuck. Take a glass of warm Water, and drink it slowly (DO NOT USE COLD !) It will close the muscles up. This should push it threw the pouch and into the stomach. It's uncomfortable., but it will either go Down or Up. But this will get rid of it. You may drink 2 glasses of water. You will know when you are clear. Just keep Drinking. Shirley. -

How much "fill" is a typical first fill????
54Shirley replied to slm2007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 4cc LapBand and my first fill was .5cc at this rate I felt like I was starving. Now the New Surgeon that I got . He had is PA put me under Fluoroscopy, and she looked at the entire band and seen where the fill zone is mine is probably 3, and she gave me 2.5cc on my first fill. I felt fantastic, and still do. But you are wright ! at .5 or 1.0 each time, it will take forever for restriction to set in. Also they will make the MONEY$. I don't know why they changed it. It probably is another way to make more money. People still go to Mexico, and they still use it... So it is still in circulation. You might want to Post and ask who here has a 4cc band? Were you banded in the States or Mexico, and do you like it. See what you get back. Could be interesting. -
I know this may be a lot to ask but can you guys help me...
54Shirley replied to glam_gabbi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
O.K.! WHEW! Can get confusing....... First of all you need to stay on liquids for 3 days, then 1 day of mushies then try to eat when the swelling subsides. If that doesn't work, call your Surgeon. Protein is a must for life. So try something different. You say you can eat Soup. I'm betting it's warm soup. Do the same with your shakes. Use warm tap Water. Nothing Cold it won't go down, and it can just sit in that pouch for a while which does hurt. So stay on liquids for a few days, go out and try a sample type of Protein Drink to see if it's better. . We were told not to Drink whey Product, because if you drink to much, it can be fattening. I have no idea if it is true, I'll have to read the container one day and see how much protein is in it. But that's my 2 cents. Good Health to you, Shirley. -

O.K I stumbled upon this Post.. So I am not really interested on how you do it, or what the outcome is. I'm thinking you are not a young girl, you even said you have Daughters. So you must be Mature. Grab a hold of him, and tell him we need to talk ! If he's P*ssed at you, and doesn't want to hear a thing. Then tell him you will find someone else to help you. You will soon get that attention that you are looking for, then tell him... Then you can Post your info. Good Health to you, Shirley. -
My band is making me CRAZY! Advice?
54Shirley replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask him if they do it in the Hospital? If yes, he should be able to set you up with a Professional that does these allot. Good Luck, Shirley. -
Even though you called it a 2 sided sword. It does have exactly those 2 points to prove to the Surgeon, and yourself. 1. The Surgeon sees a lot of people, and a lot of people say I can't focus. So he works with you, but has expectations too, and he will want to see if you can keep up to your end of the deal buy losing weight pre-op. 2. So now that you know what he expects ! It gives you a chance to get it together. So when you have the surgery, you will know what to do, like Protein shakes. If your hungry, but can't eat mushie stuff yet. So it's a teaching class also.

Calorie Range - How many calories do you get in per day?
54Shirley replied to divabray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I give myself a window of anything between 800 - 1200 calories per day. This way if I go out and eat in a Restaurant, and the sauce puts me over the 1200 mark.... I don't kick myself for it. So far,,, it's working. -
OMGeeeee!!! When does this "TIGHT" feeling stop??
54Shirley replied to Shoulderheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try this also: You know you have to get your Protein in, so this should work. If you mix your own shake, and you use 8oz. of Water, change that to 10oz.. It's thinned out, your getting your protein, and you can take your time sipping on it. (JUST DON'T USE COLD WATER). Look warm would be best. Protein helps kill the Hunger. So this might help. It takes time to get use to the feeling if it's from a fill. You will get use to it, just take your time. If nothing works,,,,call your Doctor. Good Health To You, Shirley. -

My band is making me CRAZY! Advice?
54Shirley replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fluoroscope is the only way to go for a fill. They will see your entire band, and port. They will know by looking at the band where your fill level is. From that point they will know how much to add. Good Health to you, Shirley. -
This is the weekend I'll tell hubby
54Shirley replied to NJGirl32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why don't you just tell him that you have made a decision about something, and it's written in stone ! That you are going in for the surgery. This is your life ! His approval is not necessary. If he had a Medical procedure done, I'm sure you would be buy his side what ever it would be. You expect only the same from him. Quit playing Games.... Mad or not he still should know, and that's like it or not ! -
Did anyone wake up during surgery?
54Shirley replied to MCCLB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wide awake for my Dental Surgeries. I had all 4 quadrants of my mouth re contoured. Gallbladder, Exploratory, Appendix I stayed knocked out. Amnesia effect. LapBand, and 3rd Hernia Repair, Lymph Nodes of the Groin removed, and He kept me knocked out. But the rest that I wrote about, I woke up during surgery, and I do remember it all. -
High schoolers with lap band?
54Shirley replied to Camillekreasons's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing to worry about at all ! You will be on liquids or mushies anyway. So,, drink what you have (EXCEPT FOR POP !) Eat the mushie stuff. Just don't eat fast, and chew till it's all mush, and small bites. Now ! That's not that hard, is it? That's all you need to do, and you will be fine. Now if you go and mess up like eat chicken when your on mushies. Yeagh you would get stuck, and take the chance of hurting your stomach. So listen to your Dr.. Do what he or she says. Did you ask your Dr. if you should be home schooled? That;s who would know. Next time you see your Doc. remember to ask. Shirley. -
Excited -- now nervous
54Shirley replied to kovi2eliana1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your surgeon should provide you with a permanent card, that says where you had the surgery, and who your surgeon is. It is a Bariatric Surgery Card. If your Surgeon says he doesn't see a need for it I would question that. You can always get a bracelet. The Hospital,,, say you break something and are admitted. You tell them that you have the band, and are on a High Protein, Low Carb. Diet. You need at least 60G of protein a day. I went in for Knee replacement, and they gave me shrimp cocktail, Steak, and some other things to pick from. Now you will learn how much you can only eat, so that won't be a problem. Take notes at your seminar and learn what you have wrote on the paper. Good Health to you, Shirley. -
6mo diet -- what should I really focus on?
54Shirley replied to stuntmonkey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do 12 months ! The bottom line is 1200 calories a day, and 60 - 80 G of Protein. Add up your calories on myfitness.com and incorporate some exercise in it even walking for starts. Get a good Protein shake Check ebay out on this. Get a good chewable Vitamin that contains CHOLINE. Keeps you Peppy. Thats it. Shirley.
