DISGUSTED!! Waste of time!
54Shirley replied to nipper75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With the myfitnesspal.com it asks some questions like your weight, height, even sex. It will determine what your calorie intake should then be. It's really a good idea to journal your food for calories, and Protein. You said you think there is something else wrong with you. Well, I have a hypothyroid, and that will cause sluggish weight loss or weight gain. If I were you,,, I would journal everything for a month, and get some exercise. If you have no luck, then see a Dr., and explain your situation. Good Health to you, Shirley. -

Concerned about Calories Intake..........
54Shirley replied to Debora Anne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yep ! Don't join the Starvation Nation.! O.K. Are you drinking Protein shakes? They will help with energy, and beef up your calorie intake. I do between 800-1200 a day, and that's plenty. Go to myfitnesspal.com It's free, and it records all your needed information day after day. It also keeps your foods in memory, so let say your looking up lunch, you see your food, check off the box, and enter it. It's done. Same thing with exercise. Give it a shot for about a week. It will journal everything for you. I am losingintime on that site. Shirley -

Tricare Prime - Lap Band Denied Again, Again, And Again!
54Shirley replied to AZArmyWife36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand you totally ! I really do ! After the kickbacks from the Dr.'s to the Ins. Company's, and O yes there is, and we pay higher Ins prices every year. I no it's morally, and ethically wrong, But who's going to say something ? YOU ! I don't think so... Let me tell you something. When I switched surgeons. They were really very Leary of taking me on. After all I was Roux n y patient. WHAT? I said I have the Band. No you had the bypass done on 10/31.06. Yes that was my band date. Take a look at my weight loss History, and that should show that at 1-2lbs. a week, that it is the band. "YOU KNOW,,,, WE WONDERED WHY THEY DIDN'T SEND YOUR WEIGHTS ? Duh ! Hello, I didn't have that surgery. So under Fluoroscopy I went, and sure enough I was banded. BUT,,,,, that sob billed the ins. co. for the other surgery, and I am sure he has his favorite person to bill threw, and they see a kickback. His Insurance Nurse was a big crook, and busted at several different Hospitals for Ins. Fraud. He is still kicking, and doing his own thing. I just wonder how many years before me, has this been going on. They won't doubt him. Henry Ford is a Center Of Excellence in Detroit, and he is Chief Surgeon. So he is big boss, what he says goes. My new Dr. is a student of his. He asked me who was the biggest pain in the *ss Him or his nurse? Well I knew she was a pain, but it was him causing all the problems. So they believe me, and they don't treat me like Sh*t, like he did. I get where your coming from, and I understand your clear thinking. But when you find out that they are ripping the Ins. co. of, and you mean nothing now, because out with the old, and in with the new patient, and that's all that matters.. Then are rates go up ! I still say why shouldn't she.? They are not going to miss that at all. I would rather see someone who needs it get it. Then a Surgeon ripping the system off. Add how many surgeries a day also. -

Tricare Prime - Lap Band Denied Again, Again, And Again!
54Shirley replied to AZArmyWife36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I no it's illegal ! But ,,, has she paid her dues for that Ins.? I'm sure she has.. So if you need medical care, and because of their contracts, your not going to get it, is not fair either. They are not going to go broke. They are in the business to make money,. and they do. It's far better for the patient to even be considered by a Giant like them. Not just say NO ! to the Patient. For me to say Gee I'm really sorry to hear that is almost useless. She is trying, and trying, and still getting the door slammed in her face. She could do this, and get by, and they would never miss it. I'm not into this stuff myself, but I saw my Ins. company get ripped off for thousands from a incompetent Surgeon, who could care less even about the patient, once he got paid. So we both got ripped off, the Ins. company didn't seem to mind, and 5 yrs. later, he is still ripping them off BLIND. So, I know it's deceiving, but other then that. Why shouldn't she be able to do this if she needs it. -
Tricare Prime - Lap Band Denied Again, Again, And Again!
54Shirley replied to AZArmyWife36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would go to someone else. put on ankle weights, then put some on your calve. (YOUR NOT THE FIRST PERSON TO DO THIS, AND "YES" I AM SERIOUS.) put some heavy stuff in your pockets, have your husband tape ankle weight to your back, drink all the Water you can. You only need to raise your BMI. Comorbidities: Are your knees hurting you, feeling stiff in the morning or after sitting for a while? sure they are. that's one. No children, but you are trying. That's a big one. Can't sleep at night, I have to sleep sitting up in a chair for your breathing. that's another one. These are all possibilities, that can be fixed with weight loss. Knowledge in this Dr., Ins. thing is vital. Seriously you take some of this into consideration. There going to weigh you, not strip you. -
I slept in a recliner the first week. Then I moved to the bed. Everyone heels different too so,,, it's kinda like hit & miss. You will know though, just keep trying.

Do you journal what you eat, and your exercise? Go to myfitnesspal.com and check this out. It's free ! It adds up your calories, and Protein. Keeps your food in memory, so you just check a box if this is what you had say for lunch. Then calories are printed out on the screen, there added up for the whole day. You can also log your exercise, and it will tell you how your doing. I am Losingintime on that site. Look me up if you want. But check it out O.K....

I do the warm Water when ever I get stuck, and it will push it threw, or FLASH it up. So be by the toilette or a sink. You have to relax yourself, I know your thinking know way! but you must. It will relax the muscles around the band, and make this easier. So drink warm or lukewarm water (DON'T DRINK COLD,,, YOU COULD SWELL UP MORE) Sometimes it could take quite a bit of water, but slow, and keep drinking, don't give up. It will push threw or,,, all come up. Then you feel the swelling. Stay on Liquids for a couple of days, and then mushies. Hope you feel better. Shirley.

It will get better,,, a little every day !

anybody have a slip fixed by surgery?
54Shirley replied to MelissaNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is what I do. I f I am stuck, the first thing you have to do is relax ! the damage is done, your stuck, now help fix it. So stay as calm as you can, because this will help relax all your muscles. If you don't, and it comes up, it can be very hard on you. I get a large glass of WARM Water ! (DO NOT USE COLD) Slowly start to drink this, (the warmth will also relax and open your throat just in case it comes up) It could take several large glasses to push the food threw, and drop into the stomach. This will go either way, come up or go down, but it will help. When my band was empty, I use to get hung up allot, this always worked. Prevention is far better then cure so,,, be careful. And yes this really does work... We were taught to make a Drano for the band out of water, and ADOLPHS meat tenderiser. you drink the combo and it eats threw the stuck. I will stick to my find. Good Health, Shirley.. -

54Shirley replied to Genevieve D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to be the bummer....... It's just junk food has to go ! For me it was chips. It took a while, maybe 6-8 weeks to lose the itch. 6 months later ,I don't even give them a thought.. You will get through this or,,, hang on to them for a once in a while thing. Now that's up to you,,,, but ! They really should go. Good Luck, Shirley. -
first fill and having trouble
54Shirley replied to AprilJoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats swelling in the band. As long as you can drink,, it's a good thing. Don't drink cold ! It will cause swelling ! ! ! Stay lukewarm or room temperature. I hope you are drinking shakes in this, not just water or Chrystal light. If your shake is to thick, then add more water, and thin it out. The protein will help kill the hunger, so the more protein the better. -
Road Trip!! what am I going to eat??
54Shirley replied to imagine923's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like Sea Foods including, shrimp, Shrimp Cocktail, Pattie Melt/ cheese/ onions, (I DON"T EAT THE BREAD) so open faced is nice, chili, chicken salad, tuna salad, BBQ Chicken. Salad, Soups, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy. These are some ideas to pick from. I will show my Bariatric Card, and pick what I want,, not what comes together. They then go by what I ask for. Instead of chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy. I would choose chicken, Soup, cottage cheese. This is very do able. Have a good trip, Shirley. -
OMGEE!! Why am I so hungry???
54Shirley replied to vixen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 5 yrs. post op in October. Sounds like you need to go in, and be totally checked out under fluoroscope. It's like a giant x ray machine that picks up the band, and your organs. They can see where your fill line is, and fill you to that point. If they think there is a leak, they can add a couple of cc's of adhesive to your fill. Then if there is a leak, it will be sealed. This is just a example of what can be done under the fluoroscope. It is painless, and you will be able to see the whole thing. I know,, I just went threw this procedure. Fluoroscope is the only way to go. Talk to your Dr., and get in, and get checked out. Shirley. Welcome to BANDLAND ! -
first fill and having trouble
54Shirley replied to AprilJoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay light on the sips, and don't even think about eating..... Cardinal rule for swelling at my Doc's Office is: 3 days liquid, 1 day mushies, then the next day try food. If the swelling does not go down,,,,, then you are in THE RED ZONE. To Tight, and have to get some taken out. If it's not good by Monday, call your Dr., and go get a slight unfil. Anytime they touch that fill though,,, it's back to fluids for 3 days, etc.... Didn't your Dr. give you a glass of Water after he filled you, and make you drink the whole thing down. That's every time you are filled ! If you have to,,, you ask for a glass of water to see if it stays down. That's part of the fill. To see if you are to tight or not. Please keep that in mind. Let me know how your doing O.K., Shirley. -
