Well Angie,,, With all that said. It's nice to meet you. I too have numerous Disabilities, and have been on my SSD for a year now. I am usually on this site, also on myfitnesspal.com You might look into that, it keeps track of your calorie intake. I see you are on 1800 calories a day. Your surgeon may or may not lower that on you. It depends on you and the surgeon, I am on 800-1200 a day. If you go to the myfitness.pal you will get a chance to view other peoples diets, and yes some are Diabetic. I am Losingintime on that site, feel free to become a friend or friend me in if you would like. Look forward to hearing from you, Shirley.

Is Medical Jewelry Necessary
54Shirley replied to gcmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If something happened like a Heart Attack "so they think" could have fainted O.K.... It would stop them from beating on your chest, and hurting all the work you had done. Not to mention the pain, and then the repair work. I have a card, but I mgiht invest in the jewelry myself. -
No one to take care of me!
54Shirley replied to Colee85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to have a O.K. to Travel, so ask your surgeon. Otherwise you can take care of yourself. It's not going to be hard, and your Dr. is going to want you up anyway. So you will be fine. I promise you it's not that rough. -
Is Medical Jewelry Necessary

You should have gotten a Medical Card One side the hospital name, and Bariatric Patient. Other side is for restaurants to see that you can't eat as much as them, so,,, you get your meal the way you can eat it, and or cheaper in price. This card is for your wallet, and I know because I have one. If your surgeon doesn't give one,,, I would say I want one ! I show my card, and save. Also he can be reached. Otherwise I would wear jewelery. They need to know that all that is in there. -

I had to lose weight, and that was with a sluggish thyroid, and a problem with water retention. So if I can u can. Just commit yourself to it. Calories for me are 800-1200 a day, and exercise 3x a week. -

My surgeon told me the same thing about Wal-Mart, So I buy on line instead. The Muscle Milk Light has some great flavors, but their chocolate is bad! ! You would think they would do something about that. So I buy their chocolate milk, the powder smells like DEVILS food CAKE BATTER ! and it is good. I have a site at under $19.00 a jug 1.65 lbs. of powder 2 scoops to a 8 oz shake. It goes quite aways. If interested get back to me, and I will give information. Shirley. -

feeling teary and other things after my lap band surgery
54Shirley replied to im~starvingatm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well Your elbow is exercising to your mouth ! Stop doing that ! you could really hurt yourself..... You have to heel first ! Did you do this to lose weight, or just see if you could beat this thing down, "the Band" and just do what you want. That's not what this is about. You have guidelines your Dr. gave you. Stick to them ! We all had to, so your not alone. What do you think your surgeon would say if he/she knew what you were doing? I'm sure you have a appointment to see your surgeon, and what do you think that he is going to think when he sees WEIGHT GAIN! You have a job to do for yourself, Quit testing, and playing, and do your research, and job. For now,,, Walking is good. -
Empty lap band no slip can't tolerate food

After I had surgery, my surgeon put me on Pepcid complete. Any nausea, or feeling sick to the stomach was gone with this. Plus we get our calcium from it too. You miht want to look into this, it is a bit pricey, but what isn't nowadays. It worked ! that's about the best I can tell you. Good Health to you, Shirley. -
Am I the ONLY one here who drinks RTD Muscle Milk light?
54Shirley replied to 14isabella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink MML everyday ! Have been doing that for almost 5 yrs. now... But I buy about 5 different flavors from a website where it's not expensive at all. I don't drink their plane chocolate (IT'S LOUSEY !) Now there chocolate milk taste like Devil's food Cake. My surgeon made it clear that this is what we are to drink. 195 Calories, 25 G of Protein is a very good shake. I don't know what your buying, but I buy the powder, and mix with Water. They are very good. Cake Batter is the newest flavor. If your drinking chocolate out of a can, I would switch to the powder in a 1.65LB. Jug for under $19.00. Only 2 scoops for a 8 oz. shake. So a big jug goes a long way. Which does not make it expensive at all if you know where to shop ! Good Luck with what your doing? If you ever want to update, contact me, and I will give the Info on where to shop from. You can see for yourself that way..... -

Anyone afraid of Failing??
54Shirley replied to amys0703's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A lot of times if you are drinking to much Fluid, the scale won't move. I know it's hot so stay hydrated for sure. But way a gallon of Water on the scale, and see what it tells you. So if you have a tendency to retain water like I do. I make sure I take a water pill daily. It helps get rid of the stored fluid, so when I drink, I don't see a 6lb. gain or whatever usually around 10lbs. So I take what my Dr. gave me, and do my part, and I see a loss. Not much,, but it's not a gain. If you retain water, you might want to talk to your PCP, and they can check easily, and see if that's the case, and do something for it. I got weighed at her office today, and dropped 6lbs in almost 4 weeks. So,,, I'll take it ! My Turtle is movin!. -

Had surgery 6/29 and have no restriction
54Shirley replied to ShannonR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't push the working out ! your only 2 weeks out. Try walking around the block, if your not tired, walk a little farther, BUT DON" PUSH IT ! At myfitnesspal.com most of us are there from this site. You will journal all your food and exercise. and chat with the women that are on here. Also are Diets for some of us are viewable to the public, so you can check out what where eating, that will help you a lot !. Then click on the exercise tab, and not sure but our diary might be visible to the public also. I take the dog for a walk sometimes, or stroll to the beach, and back. All this stuff adds up. When your on the home page, that's where you comment or speak up. You will see Mellisa burned 195 calories walking the dog, something like that. So as you read them, you will see what to do, and how many calories you burn. I am Losingintime on that site, So good Luck, and get yourself started. -
Had surgery 6/29 and have no restriction
54Shirley replied to ShannonR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For now, and always stick to your planned calorie intake daily ! Join myfitnesspal.com to keep track of your calories, and exercise. You have no fill yet, so you are going to be hungry. The band works by fill after fill for restriction. It could take 3 fills before you finally feel the difference. You just have to get by how you can. It's not easy, but your stomach has to heel first. So this is how we wll go threw it. Don't be depressed, this is normal. Things wil get better. -
Anyone afraid of Failing??
54Shirley replied to amys0703's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you stick to a certain amount of calories a day ! you don't have to worry. Sure there's time you will stop losing weight, but you will lose inches instead. "THAT TO ME IS BETTER THEN POUNDS ANY DAY !" I do between 800-1200 calories daily. now that's not much, BUT ! When you are banded, and you start getting fills, "IT COULD TAKE A FEW FILLS" you begin to lose your appetite. So not hungry, 1000 calories a day, results,,, WEIGHT LOSS ! Plus you will get into exercising or walking the dog, or house work too. This all helps take the weight off. Just remember,,, this is a s l o w go, so be patient. You need a good Protein shake. Don't buy whey! It can be fattening. Also, the mall stores are pricey. Shop on line, and look around. If your having a hard time? just google the name of the product, then look at the prices on each site. Go with the cheapest. Hope this helps take the edge of failing. It doesn't matter how you get there, just as long as you arrive ! Shirley. -
I want to help you, because I believe I can.... My insurance wouldn't allow surgery for 12 months, so he put me on a 1200 calorie diet. I am also Hypothyroid, so weight for me is harder to come off. I lost over 100lbs. in a year, and my knees needed replacement, so I did not exercise, because I couldn't. So I was banded, and lost 25lbs. before the surgeon bungled things up. New Surgeon, and I am off and rolling again. TIS IS POSSIBLE ! O.K.! I want to keep in touch, and help you out. "IF YOU WANT THE HELP" Are you drinking a Protein shake 1x a day at all? Click on my name, and go to my profile, then click on TOPICS, and my Journal will come up. Please read this ! It explains what I went through. So I have been there, done it, and doing it again. So I have the know how, "I AM NOT A DOCTOR !' Just someone that has done this. I know where your at, and I know it needs to come off in order to be successful at surgery. So you need a helping hand something your Doctor is not giving you. After all He is paid for the surgery..... It doesn't matter how you get there,,, as long as you arrive. Then you and your Husband can do this together in time. Do you know how much more he wants you to lose? Just asking.. If interested, get back to me, and I will help. Hope we meet 1/2 way, Shirley.
