Congrats on the 7 yrs. of being Sober. If you have done all of that, then you and the band will go fine. Because the band kills your hunger, and you then have time to think of other things. I drank when I went to a party ! That was the idea. I smoked for years. Haven't picked one up in 30+ years. I am looking at being banded this October for 5 yrs. , and I love it. This is my second time around with the same band, just do to a Surgeons screw up. But that's o.k..... we all make mistakes, and this is of and rolling with a new surgeon. I was banded 10/32006. My surgeon thought he blew this 4cc band with a fill. I couldn't swallow spit by the time I got home, and he never checked me with Water. So I went back, and he deflated my band. I have tried to get back in to see him, but he wouldn't have anything to do with me, and denied that anything was wrong. Well we moved up in Northern, Michigan, and I found a surgeon to take care of this. Revision surgery I thought. I went under fluoroscopy, and was told this band was in excellent shape, so she filled me to my fill line, and I have been chugging along for about 6 months now. I never had to do another pre op diet again. They just inflated the balloon again, and told me liquids for a couple of days, then mushies, then try food. It worked ! So I am glad to be back on track I missed it... I had a very hard time NOT getting stuck when it was empty. Seems like everything got stuck for me. Now it's a lot easier. So when were you banded ? Yep ! This is our rule to follow when ever they do a fill, and it works ioo ! 2 Days liquids, 1 Day Mushie, then try food ! It's that easy ! Just remember to take small pieces about the size of a dime or smaller, chew until you really turn it into mash. and take your time ! On each bite while you are chewing forever, put your fork down on the plate. You will take more time without that in your hand. They call that learning to put the fork down. Now you know how. Enjoy your fill.

So you have a cross addiction correct? One to Food, and the other to Alcohol. I met a Man at a WL meeting. and he was banded, and was in Tip Top Shape. When we introduced ourselves, he said he lost over 400 LBS with the Band, and the Band saved his LIFE. My mouth hit the floor, I couldn't believe it. Then he said He swap 1 addiction for the other "this can be common." He worked out at the Gym while banded, but his calories were all liquid Calories. Next he tried pain killers for his knees, and the booze and the pills formed a real good relationship. Until he almost died of a over dose. So he belonged to Lap Band Meetings, AA Meetings, and NA Meetings. I will never forget him, because it was the first time I ever heard about swapping out Food, for another addiction, and his addictions were consumed all through the mouth.

That's because you eat food to live... So how can you get away from it? I try to keep my mind of Foods, and Fills help that aspect. What do you do about it?

You are soooooo wright ! Keep up the research it helps, and before you know it,,,, fills will start. Don't expect a Miracle though. This depends on your Dr.. Some people need about 3 fills to really feel restriction, and some get filled under Fluoroscopy, where they fill you to your fill line, and done ! Until your stomach shrinks from weight loss, and you need a little fill to keep you going. Keep up the Real Good Work,,, Shirley.

I think we have all done that threw the learning process. If your not in pain, that I don't think you did any damage. But it is wise to follow up with your Dr.... Since you know you can cause damage, and you know you must learn to eat slower. "THAT'S A MUST !" Then when ever you eat, start practicing... By the time they fill you. You will have learned some habits that go Great with the Band. Shirley.

O.K. I will give my 2 cents. If you are almost 300 Lbs., and you think then when you lose all this weight, that you will be Drop Dead Gorgeous Your Wrong. Because your Young though,,,, the elasticity in your skin is not yet shot. So if you work out "EXERCISE" while you are banded, and dieting, you should bounce back pretty good.. If not,,, there is always Plastic Surgery. Which means more surgery for you.. If you want to eliminate the Pain, then you have to do something about it. I know your only 18 "NICE AGE TO BE !" But you are making your body old also. Example: When I had my Gallbladder out in my 30's, The Dr. pulled my husband aside and said the weight has really taken it's toll on her, she has the insides of a 65 yr. old Lady." You don't want to end up like me, Believe me.. I still am doing my best to take this off. Will you be the Happy Girl at 300 LBS. What do you honestly think? Are you Happy now? I don't think so. Do yourself a favor and see someone for the surgery "It's not that bad", and You will talk to someone about this., and I think you should talk to someone so it's all explained, and understood. One day you might tell that joke to the wrong person, "someone who just lost some one to Cancer." and they are going to knock your teeth down your throat ! I would think first, if I were you.

I don't see anything "funny" about Cancer at all. My Husband had a Kidney Removed do to Kidney Cancer. The other one has to do the work for 2. It can e done, but it's a bit hard to understand, and deal with. The Repercussions can end up in Gout, Renal Failure. So you walk a tight line, and you hope for the best. He knows eventually it's Dialysis. For him,, he refuses to do it, he watched his Mother Die from it. So his choice is to Die at home Naturally.. I know what a lot of you are thinking, but when his time comes,, He's already come to peace with this, and it's legally done. So,,,, unless he changes his mind in a FLASH..... He will get his wish. So Clown: I looked up your age, and really have a hard time believing that too. I can't see this kind of surgery on a 90 yr. old person. I know my surgeon wouldn't do it. How ever old you are, you should grow up, and just tell them you are a success with the band, and forget the jokes.

You'll do fine.... If you have any doubts, Let your Dr. know that your mother will be with you for a few days, but then will have to return home. You don't know any one in your area yet because you are new. So can you feel free to call if you have any questions at all? He should say Yes ! Also we are always here. So,,, feel free to ask away ! But first I think you will be resting for a Day or 2. Shirley.

When you are filled under Fluoroscopy, and they fill you to your fill line, you will stay full for about 5-6 hrs.. When you start getting hungry every 2-3 hrs., It's time for a fill. I think that is the only way to get filled, because you don't play around with every 6 weeks or so, of going in for a tiny fill. This way you go straight to your fill line, and your good to go. Mention that to your Dr....

I average between 800-1200 cal a day. Try to stay under 1000. As long as you get your Protein in. I don't see the problem, and burning off the calories so that your body then burns up some reserved calories "weight" That's what we are supposed to do... Make sure you are on a good chewable Vitamin. You don't want to end up with your energey in the tank. Go to myfitnesspal.com a lot of us are there, and you can view some peoples Diary of what they eat, and how the exercise. It will give you some ideas that might help. I am Losingintime on that site.
