I Got A Slight Unfill And I'm Still So Tight...
54Shirley replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My point exactly ! It takes time for this band to relax. So in the meantime, if you don't open up tell the afternoon. just do liquids, when things get a little better, try a small amount of mushies. It will come along. -

Failed Lap Band!!!!
54Shirley replied to mstrustar2730's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had some major problems with a Chief Surgeon at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. All the weight that I lost, I had regained do to Bad Aftercare "Same As You". So I found another Surgeon and was filled under Fluoroscope, and turned out that the band worked. Give yourself a chance, and see how this really can work, before getting cut up. Your not a failure, your Dr. was one though ! So get yourself corrected, and then filled. You will be amazed at the difference that this band makes when its working. You know what its like to have no gas in the tank and stay on empty rite? It can be miserable, and aggravating. The band works on the same principle, no Fluid, no restriction.. Get some fluid in that band, and it will work. Also a flipped port is a easy repair. They can even put it where they are comfortable with it. Lot of different spots to stitch that too. So Good Luck, and don't throw the towel in yet. Shirley. -
Addicted To The Scale
54Shirley replied to MissBee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll give my 2 cents on this one. I was addicted to the scale too, watching it go up and down use to drive me crazy. I told my surgeon about my hang up, "I thought I was doing the rite thing.." and he told me. Throw the Damn thing out ! and only count the weight when your weighed at the Dr.'s Office. I couldn't believe it... Then he told me that since they weigh people all day long, that every day or other day, a person comes in and calibrates them so they can be accurate, and you can't do that at home and be accurate. So you will always get a different read out. I weighed myself 3 times and went with the numbers that came up twice. If they were different all 3 times, I just said forget this and gave up. Also I went threw about 3 different scales in this process, and the problem was still there. Also never weigh yourself on carpeting, it has to be a flat floor. So I hung on to it for a while, then in discus t I threw it out. I only got weighed at the Dr.'s Office, and sure enough,, I started to see weight loss. To this day,, I don't own one.... If you insist on weighing yourself do it in the morning, and drop your bath robe, and get weighed, but do this once a week. Pick a day like Monday, and see what you lost or didn't. I go by my cloths size also.. -

Well sense you had a Hip done, you know what to expect... I walk totally unassisted with 2 knees, so you will get around that's for sure.
-
How do you like your new knee? I have 2 Titanium Knees, and it is fantastic. Reminds me of the Band. Yes its something artificial, but you only feel better in the long run... Thats how the band is for me, and the knees. No Regrets at all. Shirley.

Everything Is Lining Up Perfectly...but Only One Hurdle Is Preventing Me To Go Forward (Help !!!)
54Shirley replied to marketingdude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There both good bands but, allot of people think it just wraps around the top of the stomach and thats it. It gets filled and your on your way... Not necessarily so ! Mine is stitched in place. I will describe this, the reason is to prevent slippage. This is more common in Europe which is were my Surgeon learned the Technique. They put the band around the upper part of the stomach, then pull the stomach up and threw the band, and over the side, and stitch it all the way around by going up, and down, and around. Then hopefully the band will not slip. You should ask your surgeon if this method is used if you are concerned about which one will do a better job. This does help me. Most people do not have this done, and they are fine with there band, on the other hand some suffer a slip, and somehow it has to be taken care of. Now your going to Mexico for surgery. Who is going to take you on for your aftercare here. A slip is major, and if you have the band just slapped in "by the way it's a implant, not a big deal at all." You better have someone who can take care of you. Now when I was banded NO ONE would touch the Realize Band. So if you go with that, make sure your surgeon will take care of that type of band. Research instead of thinking. It's a Implant that will be your tool to work ! Do your research, ask questions to your Dr., and get answers to written down questions that you can keep, and learn from. With all your info asked, and answered. You can make your Choice. Hope this Helps ! I hope its not Full Contact Sports Like Football, Boxing Karate etc... You will only get your tubing broke or your port kicked in, and if the balloon in the band is filled, so is your tubing filled. If you got your port pushed in it could send the Water up to the balloon and cause it to burst. Think about what your doing o.k.... Shirley ! -
No ! not during bandster hell, because you have no fill. It's like trying to blow up a tire that is 1/2 off the Rim. So your probably fine. Just try to start learning better habits, and don't let your Head get the better of you. I know it's hard, very hard. But you have to try to hang in there. If you must eat something make sure its Low Cal, also High Protein helps. Just a few ideas, hope this helps. Shirley.

DITTO ! You have one smart DOC.... I have been doing that for years.. Just figure out your protein, and calories per meal, and your good to go ! Eating Dry is to hard for me to do, it's not natural. So a sip here, and there never hurt.

A small fill should help lock it in place. Stay on fluids for a few days do to possible swelling, and be careful chew, chew, chew small pieces. -
Your use to seeing you.. Go by your cloths size, and you will know if your shrinking or not. Sometimes thats better then the scale.

Emotional Rollercoaster...anyone Else?
54Shirley replied to 4kmarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just a thought here. When were Obese are Hormones are all out of Whack ! Mine were too, with weight loss they went back in place. So if you realize this is a normal process, it does make it easier. We were taught this at our seminar. Just my Opinion ! Shirley -
Fills- Need Advice And Information
54Shirley replied to JustDoIt130's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nice Job on the WL ! When you tell your Surgeon that your starving, he'll give you one. He won't want you to be to uncomfortable. I don't know what size your band is, but allot of times, it takes time to get to the rite fill level. So be patient, it comes with time.. -
What Is With The "gurgles"?
54Shirley replied to KathyOfAlabama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well a couple things going on hear. 1 is when you eat or drink and get the gurgling from the throat or burps from the stomach. I will explain like it was explained to me from my Surgeon You have new plumbing, and what you hear coming up is air,and it means your pipe is cleaned and open. Get stuck and you'll wish you heard all these noises instead. 2 is just the stomach. It's empty compared to what its use to having, and liquids really don't do that much justice. So thats all the stomach juices trying to find something to digest. But !, chances there's not much there. As your stomach shrinks in a lot of time..... This will slowly go away. " the most of it." Wen you get a fill, and stay empty, then again it will be back. This is my Surgeons Info, and I believe it. It something to think about, and it makes sense. Hope this helps. Shirley. -
Any Suggestions For Liquid Diet???
54Shirley replied to skin-e-girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein first ! So always do your shakes.. Pick up some Flintstones Complete chewable Vitamins with CHOLINE ! These wont hurt threw your liquid stage, and it will help give you some Pep. I liked Soups Like Lipton cup of soup Cream Of chicken. Then look in the organic area in your store <I go to Kroger for mine, and I buy Paciffica Liquid Soup in a tall Box. It's on a shelf and the flavors are great. Red Pepper Soup, Cream of Mushroom Soup, and Butternut Squash was very good ! I don't care for squash, but like I said to my surprise it was good. This soup is thick, so it will stick with you where you won't feel like your starving. This soup is pureed, so no pieces in the soup. If you mix your shakes with Water heres a tip Cut the water amount in 1/2 and put your flavored protein in a covered dessert dish. shake it well, and put it in the freezer. This makes for a great pudding, and you still get all your protein. If you need tips on good protein let me know, and I will give some names, and flavors of a good shake, and where to buy them reasonably. Shirley. -
I know that I take hormones for Thyroid. My Dr. has me in there every 6 months to check blood levels. Too much is no good, and not enough is no good. So it has to be Monitored. I hope you are under Dr.'s care so it can be Monitored, Hormones can be strange, and a specialist is best to deal with it. "My Opinion ONLY ! "I AM NOT A DR...."
