New To The Site. Help?
54Shirley replied to kelly2812's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Go to myfitnesspal.com its free, and you can keep track of all your calories, Protein, and exercise, You can also view other peoples Diary, and see what they are doing too. If your motivated at all, then this works. I am Losingintime on that site, contact me and I'll friend you in. I have gone threw this twice now, so I have lost the weight banded, then gained almost all of it back, while deflated, and I am now trying to get it off again. Trust me Yo YO Dieting with a Band is a B!TCH ! You don't want to even go there. If you need a fill get one, but work at trying to get back on the wagon by using the MFP site. Don't be a stranger, and hope this helps, Shirley. -

Were you a little to tight from a fill, or did you have a cough like from a cold ? Chances are it is not a slip, but you can always call your Dr. and describe the issue. He can tell you his opinion.

Staff Giving Confusing Information About Projected Weight Loss
54Shirley replied to bev712's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I try to cut my foods into Dime size, that works for me. Because like elcee says, you can get your teeth into it, and chew. This way, you have more control of what your doing. Just remember Digestion begins in the mouth, so it's up to you to do it right. -
Please Help Answer These Key Questions.

3 days, Clear liquids. 2 weeks. Weak 1= Clear broths, s.f. Jello, s.f.Popsicle, s.f pudding only to take crushed meds with. . Protein shakes Weak 2= Thicker Soups like cream of chicken, In the organic section of the store I use to find Thick creamy soups in a tall box. Red pepper/Tomato was one of them. It was fantastic ! There Mushroom, and Butternut Squash is very good also. Anything the consistency of Gravy was fine. He needed to go to school for Bed Side Manners, and he didn't know much about filling the band at all. He use to grab the Port and pull on it so that it was straight, then b***h that I was the hardest person that he had to fill ! I told him "YOU PUT THE BAND IN ! YOU SHOULD KNOW WHERE EVERYTHING IS..... " He would just grumble and b***h. Best Surgeon I ever had. Look at my Blog and see what he did the day of surgery. He screwed up by over filling me. In his opinion He Blew the Balloon in the Band so he had to deflate me. After that he wouldn't see me any more. -
Sounds like maybe they should band the brain instead ! It might help all kinds of head hunger.

Is Lap-band Right For Me?
54Shirley replied to Claym325's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Restriction will stop the quantity Some where down the road you will find that your taste for some things really don't mean that much to you anymore, and you will lose interest in it.. It's not a big deal! You will come to grips with certain things that you can't eat, and you will get over it. I was bread at every meal. I don't dare touch the stuff. I loved boneless chicken breast. I haven't had that in a very long time, but I eat the Dark meat instead. It's more juicy, so it doesn't get stuck that easy for me. You will learn to Adapt, and maybe make some sacrifices to have that band. But it's worth it ! For me the food was a addiction, so,,, giving it up, once use to it was like quitting smoking. It bugged you for a few times, and then it was gone. So I really don't miss the stuff that I don't eat. Hope that breaks it down for you. -
Anyone Feel Tired After Eating?
54Shirley replied to Jenn1214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you eating carbs ? or Protein ? My Surgeon told me to eat Proteins, but have a little carb on your plate. It's a kicker for the protein. If you do to many carbs. It's not good for you. Also the saying of a Carb Coma comes into focus. Wanting to sleep from the food. Good Luck, I'm sure you'll figure it out. Shirley. -
Even though you think your saving money, don't you think you would save more if you didn't bother to purchase the junk ? You have done a nice job with the WL. don't sabotage yourself ! Or you could end up like I did, having to lose the weight twice. Not a fun thing to do. So get yourself back to the basics, and start again. Do you belong to myfitnesspal.com it keeps track of all your calories, Protein, and a lot more. Its available to you for free, 24/7. Everything is kept in memory, so you can check out how you been doing. Look me up Losingintime on that site. It helps me with keeping in touch with a reality check. Good Luck, Shirley.

Is Lap-band Right For Me?
54Shirley replied to Claym325's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat steak ! If this helps you... Not all the time, but it has to be tender, and I have to drag it threw a steak sauce, so that it stays moist. For me that's the key thing. Chops, Chicken, Fish. I have to have a sauce for it. So, BBQ, Tarter, Steak Sauce, Low Cal Ranch Dressing All this stuff works for me. Now ! You won't eat the Quantity that you use to, but if you take small pieces, and chew till it's like Applesauce, you should do fine. Hope this helps. Shirley. -
I had the Band done in my early 50's, then had a right knee replaced soon after. About 6 moths later I had the other knee replaced. It went out equally. ! am glad to hear that you are doing well, and know your way around on a computer. A lot of people are still afraid to pick one up. Congrats Bandsister.. Shirley.

I Finally Had One Of "those" Moments...
54Shirley replied to BlueTattoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is true, as is Water weight gain, that can happen too, but it will come off. That's why once you start the mushie stage, you will begin to see what is really coming off. You will count calories, and slowly see it come off. Go to myfitnesspal.com and sign up. It's free, and allot of us are there keeping track of calories, Protein, exercise, and more. It can even calculate what you could lose it a number of weeks. You can view other peoples Diary, and see how, and what they are eating. Also it's all kept in memory. That's why I say a loss is a loss. Sometimes it will keep going, or plateau, or gain some back. So Celebrate ! Your trying to do this, and your getting there one way or the other. I am Losingintime on MFP site. -

A loss is still a loss. If you only gain back 6 or 8 lbs., then you know what you have in a loss. Celebrate them, and celebrate the NSV's. I like those more then seeing weight loss on a scale. As long as you feel your winning that Battle ! Your doing just fine. So Congrats ! -
Welcome aboard, and Congrats! Time will go by, before you know it, it will be time to get banded. Word of advice... Whenever you go to a Dr. or Dietician, Shrink, anyone get weighed, and get a printout of the visit. Even if your family Dr. say's no, insist on yes. It's easy to lise things, and if you miss a month, they could make you start all over again ! So get a printout, and a pocket folder. Keep it for yourself. If they are missing anything. You have it ! I did this, it was required, and sure enough the Ins. Co. lost something, and I had copies. Good Luck, Shirley.

Can You Get Approved For Lap Band Surgery If You Have No Health Problems?
54Shirley replied to myownjourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Contact your Ins. Company, and find out the criteria. Those Sore Knees that you talked about ? That's one, Irregular Periods ? That's another one. And you thought you had nothing wrong with you Ha. ! Just make sure you let the surgeon know about these issues. He can only take your word about those Ache Knees, there is really no way to check. So just start explaining if he asks you. Because they can help you, if you need them. Take Care, Shirley. -
Keep On Top Of Your Surgeon's Office!
54Shirley replied to Jenn1214's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of the best things you can do for your own self, and Surgeons Office is the following. Invest in 2 pocket folders. Every time you go to anyone get weighed, and get the print out. make a copy for your own file, and turn one in, when it's time for surgery. If they say "it's o.k., we have it all !" Then not a problem, but if they are missing anything ! They have it now. You keep copy's of everything in one of those folders, just in case they ask for something later on. Trust me,,, it does happen. But you are right ! Keep close tabs on everything, after all, it's your surgery. -

Protein Shake (yuck!)
54Shirley replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as thickening it up, use less Water. If your using 8 oz. water, 4 oz., and a little time in the freezer is like pudding. If that's to thick, then try 6 oz.... I was put on this stuff when I was first banded. I have tried others, and the Muscle Milk Light is better in taste. The stuff that taste like strait Protein is Nasty. This at least has flavor. Try and see the differences in Company's. -
Will u throw out your "big" clothes
54Shirley replied to hopetolose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got rid of all mine except for 1 pair of pants... We have a clothing site here, You can scroll down the Foreum and see it's a new site. People are always looking for cloths. I just said pay for the shipping, and you can have it all. It went to someone that had no 2-3x sizes, and she knew she wouldn't be in them for long. So point is it's useless to invest in them. So help someone out. If it don't go, then give it to Goodwill or someone. -

Onederland Not So Wonderful...
54Shirley replied to betheboo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it does make sense. You miss your Mom of course ! But yet from a stranger, you here how nasty this silent killer really is. So you have to figure out wich is better in your own mind, and judgement. I know it's not fare, but this is one of those Cancers that is kinda kept hush. Because either you will make it, or you won't ! It all depends on you. There is No Radiation or Chemo Therapy. They just remove the Organ, and tell you it's like taking out the Gallbladder. There's nothing to it.. Well he believed his Surgeon, and I stuck my nose in several times telling her why don't you tell him about complications from surgery ? There are none ! He will be fine, and he belived her. Now he curses her every time he starts to hurt, or is sick. He just wanted the truth. They told him if you get past 7 years you will be fine. Well it's 5 for him, and he is not well at all. I hope you understand that it might be for the better, she sounded like a smart lady ! Because this is just staying alive, but in pain all the time. He's got meds, but he would be asleep 24/7 so sometimes he won't take them, Anyway . Take Care of yourself. Don't worry, you will never forget her, you always remember your Mother. Those are sweet thoughts Shirley.and they are true.
