Hello From A Lapband Newbie!
54Shirley replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Aboard ! You picked a good site to Discuss your pros and cons on. Sounds like you made a wise choice going with the band. I'm glad you knew what you wanted. I'm from Michigan too. I'm retired and live in Saint Helen, Mi., we both like it up here it's pretty, and pretty quiet... Feel free to keep in touch, a lot of us are on the Post Op Site, because we are banded, but you can go anywhere. -
Give them some time, they need to look into it, and correct the problem. I had somthing similar, and they finally fixed it.

Extra Skin And Depression

I agree with stateofzen about 95% of the way.. Buy the way if that is you on the pic. You look GREAT ! I go by first impressions Possitive or Negative. The Mirror does not lie, and people, well when you walk into a room, and they are saying Wow ! Don't you look nice. That means something ! The brain hasn't had the time to process a thought about it yet, so the impression comes out instead. That's what counts. Once the the thought process kicks in, it can all be B.S. then anyway. So I don't worry about it then. If I walk pass a Mirror, and I take a glance, and like what I see, Hey ! I'm Happy !, But ? If I don't like it, and I change cloths 3-4 times, just to try to make myself Happy, and it don't work ! Then it's over for me. Thought has kicked in, and I won't be happy at all. So then I will look closely in the Mirror. 9 out of 10 times it will be tied it to Water RETENTION, Face it, when your blown up from water, you don't look good at all. At least I don't.. Undressed ! I'm a mess ! Could end up needing a total body lift someday, but I don't see that happening. So clothing helps hide everything for me. I know what you mean about 90 yr. old Boobs ! Mine is a 80-90 yr. old everything. The rest of it I agree with. -
For Those Already Banded..vacation?
54Shirley replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I see a problem at all with going to Disney World, and walking, and riding the rides. I would ask about the plane though, he might hold of on any fills in the band. -

I know I'm not hearing a thing !

Call your Doctor, and get a appointment so he can look at the situation. If you can not wait ! Then go to the E.R. Where you were banded at.

Losing, Support And Friendship
54Shirley replied to readytogoforit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW ! I hate to say it, but it sounds like me.. I have been saying that stuff for a long time, only to add 1 other thing that did not get mentioned. Don't get hung up on the scale ! If you allready know that you loose 1 1/2 - 2 Lbs. a week, and you step on the scale not to see a 3-4Lb. weight loss, and then get Discouraged... Thast's unreal. You allready know better ! So, get weighed when you see a Dr., and you will be as suprised as they will be. If No Dr. visits are lined up, then weigh yourself 1 X a month ! Make sure it's not on carpet "not a true reading". Do it in the morning, and No cloths on "then you don't have to worry about the weight of cloths". Or in underware only. Add this to the list. Because it is best to go by your cloths size. Then you really see the difference. So don't get hung up on the scale ! -
Seriously Considering Lap Band Surgery
54Shirley replied to Miekah's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome! First thing is you could not have found a better site to read from, and do your research on, so you can see the difference in all the Bandsters. I know what you mean about being to heavy. I was 356 at my heaviest. I shot my knees, "they were replaced" breathing was very difficult lieing in bed, and getting out of bed was another story by itself. Walking to the bathroom was a pain in the @$$. So I have a Idea what your talking about. I had the surgery, and no regrets at all. Yes it's mechanical so it can break down at times, and you need your surgeon to fix it up. But mainley it is managed by your surgeon for Resistance. As long as you are comfortable with your band, and losing weight ! You are doing just fine. Hope this helps, and talk to you again, Shirley. -
I'm sure you will find out the answer next week. I wouldn't worry about it.

You have done well, your right in ther at 2lbs. a week. Your body is still healing, this can take some time. When it starts to come of you will know it ! In the meantime, don't think that you have done this for nothing ! Because you did not... Go to myfitnesspal.com and sign up. It's free, and will keep track of all your everything, and keep it in Memory. You wanna see what you had to eat 6 months back, then go take a look. Calories, Protein, Ecercise, Scan your producst by the Barcode label, and your phone (if compatible) and more! This will help keep track of your wl, so give it a try. A lot of people from here are there. I am Losingintime there, look me up. Shirley.

As far as Urinating,,,, I'm thinking it's from the Foly Cathateer that you had in at surgery. You will go eventually, just keep drinking. Call your Dr. about the BM, and mention the Urinating to. Mine told me Water in, and water out ! since were really only drinking. Check that out with him.

Got Banded Yesterday And Still In A Ton Of Pain... Normal???
54Shirley replied to jennabean27's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a situation where the pain meds just made me sleepy, and when I woke up was in extreme pain. So I called my surgeon, and explained it, and he said he would change my pain medication. He did, and it helped. He had me on Tyleno3 or Vicodin, and switched to Percocet. The other medication was codeine based, so it did not work for me. -
Congrats ! To the both of you, and Welcome to the Loosers side.

I agree with Cazzy. Also since your body is use to what you would normally feed it, that has been cut, and it will react as in FEED ME ! I need all that stuff or I will be sick. Even though your listening to your body, (that's a Great Thing) some people just don't get their protein in, and if not Hair Loss can occur. So try to get in around 60G of protein a day. I know it's not easy, but try to get in at least 60 G of protein a day, also ask your Dr. about chewable multiple vitamins. I do 3 a day, and that's for the rest of my life. So while your talking to your Dr., you might mention that. Hope you feel better soon. Shirley.

Time To Start Over - Looking For Non-Judgemental Help
54Shirley replied to rktaurus71's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I use myfitnesspal.com for just about everything that it can do. Everything is kept in memory also. I joined a Physical Therapy's Gym, and Pool 3 X a week. I do 70 minutes in the Gym, and 45 minutes in the pool. Allot of people are renting the Gym for a small price, and No contract is involved. Contact a couple of Physical Therapy places, and see if they rent out their Gym. It's well worth it. -
Really- How Long Will The Lap Band Last?
54Shirley replied to kelmelmom24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a loaded question ! It depends on you allot ! if you throw up all the time, if you insist on being really tight, If you take certain Medications "Ibuprofin is one of them" all the time it can cause problems wit the band. These things, and more can shorten the life span of the Band "NOT THAT THEY WILL ! I SAID CAN...." We all have rules to follow, to loose weight, but we have to be careful ,and take care of it. The Band is always maintened by a Dr., that's why we go in for whatever we need. RNY your surgery is completed, you know the rules for WL, the rest is up to you. No need for a Dr. for WL.... When I met with my New Surgeon where I now live. They thought this little 4cc band would be shot by now, and was thinking a new band will be the solution to any problem. Well, I had no problem, just Deflated, the band was in excellent shape, "I seen that under Fluoroscope" and No surgey necessary. So depending on you, and how you take care of it, it can last a while. So I guess if the band would fail do to defect, and no erosion, or slippage, It can be replaced with another band. Nothing lasts forever, so that would work for me. -
Yay Me! I Kicked Soda Cold Turkey!
54Shirley replied to JustDoIt130's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's one of the best things to kick ! It also causes a Beer Belly affect on some people, if they drink enough of it. It did for me.... -
Oh My Heck- I Just Found Out I'm Approved!!!
54Shirley replied to JustDoIt130's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well a big time congrats ! Are you ready for a New Life ! -
Try a heating pad for comfort, and walk as much as you can. If it's Gas, If you move it moves, and it will come out. Check with your Dr. Also, and explain it to him/her, they might have a different idea.

Not Really ! I'm sure as a kid you were stuck with a needle for a shot ? It's about the same thing. The needle is inserted into the Fat, and then it goes into a Port. That's it. Some Docs give a numbing shot with a needle, so you don't feel the needle. I never did see the point to that. I just tell them find the Port and stick the Port.

When Will I Be Full?
54Shirley replied to loopdyloop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have really been through allot ! Since you stuck it out all the way, why not get filled under Fluoroscope. It's a big X-RAY Machine for your vital organs, and the band shows up completely ! The screen is up so the Dr,. or N.P. can do the fill. You will be able to view the process, and it's done the same way with a needle threw the Port. They look for your FILL LINE ! and fill you to it, or can stay just below it, if you want to try it that way, and then go back when needed to be filled. I would think with all you had done that if you mention this to your Dr., they might agree with you. He might not have the Machine in his Clinic, but the Hospital he works out of should have it. It's a Out Patient Procedure. This is what I have had done, and it works ! So it's a thought to pass your way, and maybe share with your Doc... Good Luck, Shirley.
