Poll: How many have acid reflux problems?
54Shirley replied to NJChick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my band done at Henry Fords., and the first thing they gave me after surgery, and fo the rest of my life is Pepcid Complete.. It works for us, so,, maybe you will get lucky and it will work for you. We even have blood work drawn, and he makes sure we are all takeing it.One in the morning, and one at night. Ask your Dr., and then try it.It works for me, and I was on Prevacid prior to my surgery to help control acid reflux for years!!! It's over the counter, but you must get the complete. Good Luck. It's been a long time since I posted. How's every one been doing? I really messed up, I fell into a spiders web, my fault though. The husband had a tumor on the kidney, and when he found out it was like.. let's go out to eat, have some pop corn with me, candy for the holidays, the list goes on. Any way I fell for it, even when I said no, I would turn around and say well o.k.. Even though I new it was wrong. I kept thinking if I say no to any thing, and he dies,,, I'll never forgive myself. About a month later, I said that's it! this *hit stops now. So I explained it to my doc, and he says he understands, but he don't condone it. I told him I was getting my head back on straight. So now he is recovering from kidney removal surgery, from Thursday. We find out about the tumor this week. I hope he's o.k...... Shirley..

Hello to you all from MICHIGAN!:whoo: Just a few thoughts here. I had my surgery done at Henry Fords They are a center of excellence if any one is interested, done 10/31/06. Muscle Milk Light is definetly the way to go, but buy it on the internet. a lot cheaper, bigger variety also. That was what H.F. recomends to all their Bariatric patients. So yes you do need protien. Oakland General is suppose to be a good place to go. Let me no how it is. They replaced both of my knees this year, did a great job. Drink something cold like ice chips or s.f. popcycles it will take down the swelling, and you will slowely get your water. Remember it's a slow process, should be 1 1/2 to 3LBS. per week. I no it doesn't sound like much, but you figure 12LBS. a month times 6 months = 72 lbs. thats a nice start, and this is a every day thing, so enjoy it. I no I do. Any questins or comments? my name is Shirley from saint claire shores. -
I still say try Henry Fords. They will tell you straight out what is required of you. Shrink, Physical Therapist, Internal Medicine, Dietician, A Letter of Intent "very important", and of course some visits to your Dr. to monitor your weight. This whole thing depends on your ins.. Could be 6 months/ could be a year. but what ever you do! get a file started, and when ever you go to a Dr. "doesn't matter what for" get weighed, thean when you are done with your Dr., get a print out of what you were there for, and make sure the date, and weight is on it. That includes any specialist. In 6 moths or more you will be totally pre-pared for surgery. Henry Fords is a center of excellence and can meet all of the needs above. In fact I am going in for a fill on 11-07-07, any specific question you want answered? If by any chance you have H A P hmo it now covers the surgery and fills at this hospital. Hope you have a happy adventure, I no I did.. Shirley...

I went through 12 months of Diary for my surgeon. My surgeon put me on a 1200 calorie a day diet for 1 year. I lost over 100 lbs. before surgery. He did my surgery on 10-31-06. I am still on a 1200 calorie a day diet "that's what they want", I only have 1 1/2 cc's in a 4cc band, and am still loseing weight. It's well worth the waite. Just keep proof of every time you go a Dr. that weighs you "that's the key" Blood work, Shrink, any one that weighs you. I was told to get a print out for every visit. I did just that, and gave it all to the nurse that handles the ins.. The rest is her job. Hope this info helps.. -

julialois: Hi my name is Shirley and I too am from Michigan. I got tired of getting screwed around from the crew at Harper Hospital, so... I went to <p>Henry Fords in Detroit. It was fantastic!!! I had Dr. Jeffrey Genaw as my surgeon ;he is chief of surgery;. Henry Fords is a center of excellence hospital. So if you have h.a.p. ins. it's covered in full, because they understand that if they nip this in the begining stages, they won't have to pay for blood pressure meds., or diabetic hospital stays. In my case they pd. for a right, and left knee. "just done in May". So as far as running you around like most insurances do. NOPE!!! If you get approved from this surgeon, and have h.a.p. your good to go. If you have to go through the ins. pain, well,,, he's worth it. If you can't youse this pass it on.... I thought I should check in with you all and say Hi!!!! Chrispygal: thanks for the explanation of sweet spot.'I hope I get it straight soon" I finally started out patient therapy for this other knee. Therapy has been coming to me, now I go to them. This is very painful, needs LOTS OF ICE!!!!, but I am comeing along.I got weighed by my Bariatric Surgeon, I gained 16lbs. in 1 month.I thought I was going to flip.... He told me with this kind of surgery it's all water, and it will come off..Also the weight of the new knee. "that's1 1/2 lbs difference per knee. In my book it all ads up. Anyway he finally gave me 1/2 cc in my band. So I'm up to 1 1/2cc. I'll go see him in August, and bug him for another 1/2cc. I can feel that the water is almost all off, so I feel better. I will feel better when I read there scale though. Keep in touch Shirley...:whoo::whoo:
-
O.K. Someone please explain what this sweet spot is? I don't have a clue. All I no is that with the other knee now replaced, they were monitering all of my foods to about 3000 cal. a day. whew!! I feel guiltey, and terrible... Even my surgeon from Henry Fords called me to see how the surgery went. I said not as good as the other knee, and I got myself a fiil date with him and said please don't hollar to bad about the water weight, or weight gain!! He said it's expected, so no don't worry about it. Since they have me eating so muchI feel like I am starving to death... I only have 1cc in a 4cc band, so he better put something in it. Please get back on the sweet spot matter. shirley.

Well it's official. Monday I go in for a total knee replacement. I went yesterday morning for pre admissions testing, flew threw that, then met the ana-steseologist "hope thats close eanough!" He say's the way they did the last one is the way there gonna do this one. Then they gave me a couple of t shirts that say JOINT CAMP on them, and i'm done. O x-rays, and regestration also. Then at 5:30 I was sceduled for oral surgery. It's 4:30 a.m., and I still can't sleep. He put a packing in it, and it can't drain. It finally forced it's way threw the packing, and it has been very painfull, but it'sdraining. It also seems that I must be allergic to the anastetic that he dipped the packing into. I'm itching all over. So I will be going back to the Dentist this morning. I think this hurt worst then the knee.... but at least it's over I hope, cause I sure hate going to the Dentist. I will try to keep in toch untill Monday. Shirley...

Hy Mary: Thought I would chew on your ear a little. Your done with surgery right? I'm goin back in on Monday the 7th. If all works out right with work. They are gonna do my other knee. Can you believe it? I finally am at the gym, and working out, and I get the call Monday saying the Dr. has you set up for surgery on Monday. He's a great Doc., and my knee cap is being aitenaway from Arthritis, so he want's to get it out before it gets real bad. Talk about makin money!!! wow. I've only been back to work for one day, and now I have to see if I qualify to get the other knee done. If I do, I'm off againfor a new knee. I'll try to keep you all posted on this soap opra, but I have a lot to do in so little time. Tommarow it's oral surgery they have to cut the damn thing out. Thean will come pre op testing, and regesteration, then a time to come in Monday. So wish me well with getting all of my ducks in a row with this oneLOL. I'm sure I will. Shirley...
