    Curious Anyone Banded 5 Years+

    I have been on this site for 6 years, and Banded since 10/31/06. I'm doing O.K. ! Have had a few hiccups like being deflated, and gaining the weight back, only to have to start again. I changed Dr.'s believe me. Most of the people that I new are gone. They were on here, did their research, lost weight or claimed that they failed, and then have left.. I wish some of them were still around, I miss them. But,,, it's a whole new bunch to me, and the majoriety of them are good folks. Hope you like it too.
  6. Jachut: I f I read between the lines, with all the calories that you burn, being tired, and using sugar for Energey. Your putting Fuel in the Tank. There is nothing wrong with that. We all do that different ways. I prefer Protein with a little carb. to put gas in my tank. The carb. is actually a kicker for the protein, and it works! So that's my stratigey for a lift. When it was my Sons it was called a sugar high... but you are busting your butt working out, so that's a different story. Being satisfied with Snacks or comfort food is kind of tricky, because it's at a different level for everyone, so how does anyone know where to stop ? I'm no shrink, but maybe you can ask your, and see if you get a answer Just a thought.... I think that when you find a comfort food, or a trigger food. That if you are going to tempt yourself, you have to be able to be in control of your feelings for the food, so that you can walk away, after having a little bit "will say chips" If you melt for the food, and can't let go, then that's a problem. So to me, the best thing to do is leave it alone, and you won't find yourself giving in to the food. That's how it works for me. I am not speaking for everyone, I can speak for myself though, and a few other people that I know that have the same problem. A lady that I knew had RNY Surgery, She lost weight, but then went back to old habbits, "they are hard to break" she died of Kidney Failure, at almost 500LBS.. There are people out there that have a problem with this, and they need to learn to deal with this, or it can kill them. We all know this though ! This is nothing new! I still believe that a Food addiction somewhere with a lot of us is there, or we wouldn't be here. My story was on Water retention ! Do something or you'll die. Well I did do something, and I'm still here "Amen" But There are certain foods that if I pick up, I can't put down, just like a alchaolic. So I choose to do without, and I dropped weight. I intend to take this one day at a time, Consistency is the key, You know that.. With that in mind I think there's help for one's self. If not, and I'm wrong, then you'll all know one day if I just fade away, that the food addict can't be helped. Sorry, but I needed to vent.........
  7. Depends on how tight I am.. If I can eat normal food, and I chew and take my time ,maybe 1 x every 2-3 months. If I am tighter, and I press my luck "test my band" to see what I can tolerate. I can get stuck more frequently. 1 x every couple of weeks. Reardless the stuck episodes are do to my own fault..
  8. if you can close up a bag of potato chips without finishing them all, or have some ice cream and leave the rest of it in the freezer, you're not a food addict. I Here is another good point, but I believe it's not true to everyone. In my eyes if you eat that bag of chips until your good and stuffed, "some people call this satisfied." then because you can't put the bag down until you reach that stage, that could be a true addict. If you can take a couple of chips just to munch on, and then walk away, and continue on, then you don't have a problem with it I'm not a Dr., nor a Shrink ! It's like drinking if you can't put the bottle down, and walk away, then you have a problem. Food is the same way. You have Trigger Foods that can set you off ! Mine is Potato chips. I have learned to stay away from them completley. If I give in, and have a couple, somewhere down the line I will try to B.S. myself into thinking that it's O.K. to have a handful, and I don't want to put the bag down then. I wont eat the whole thing! Just like the statement above....... but I could eat till satisified, and that could be a whole lot, and that will pack on the POUNDS for me. That's another reason that we eat slow, so that the brain can process that we even ate ! So if I were to eat Chips, I know I have hit the bottom of the Barrell. It's time to get it together again. Can anyone relate to trigger foods ? Or that certain food that if you eat it, then you know you are at your lowest point.

    How Much Protein?

    When I was first banded, the rule was Women 50-60G. Men 70-80G. of Protein a day. He also told me not to drink to much protein, because it can cause weight gain. Now the numbers have changed..... I still try to stay around what he suggested though, cause he could be right.

    Iband.. Questions About It..

    No not really. You are on liquids, and then mushies anyway, so it all kind of falls through without restriction. Make sure you measurer your portions, and take your time.
  12. What I think is interesting, and also makes this difficult. Is the fact that you must eat to live ! No getting around that, Smoking, shopping, Drinking, Drugging, whatever your addiction might be. You can at least make the choice to try to quit this problem, and deal with it, . But when you eat a few times a day, you are still feeding that habbit. That makes it harder to get a grip, because your wrong if you feed your habit, and your wrong if you don't eat. So it is viewed by me as: I will feed you "stomach" when I get around to it. So I eat to live, not live to eat. How many of you, who have gotten Morbidley Obese do to a food Addiction will honestley admit it ? Or will you just say I'm a over eater ! What's the difference ? If you keep eating, and eating like pigs ! Then what's the difference here ? and honestley, can you still believe that you weren't a addict ? So why did you get banded then

    Confused On What To Eat!

    Well I know i'm not telling anyone what to do ! My comments have always been based on my own personal experiences. If I have not experienced something like a slip or a problem that I know nothing about! You won't find me giving 2 cents on it, because I don't know a thing aout it.. I am know Dr. not by far. I have my own experience with the band, and some have not been that good. So I learned a few things plus I listened to what my surgeons have taught me. "I kept it between my ears !" If old teaching worked with the band, then it's worth it to pass it along ! Sometimes you can hit on a problem, that you can't get a answer to at the Dr.'s office. I came on hear to learn, and my surgeon directed me to this site back in 2006. They were right ! Were all different, Very Different, and it's all hit, and miss. What works for you won't, might not work for me. The only way you know is if you try. Also it is a day after day adventure. What I mean is if yesterday you had a good day, and your meal went down with NO ! problem,,,,, Today could be a whole different thing. You could be tight, find yourself getting stuck. So you go back to fluids for a few days, then your back on track. Some people never have a problem. Welcome to the Band ! So you will try certain foods, and in the begining they might go down, then after a few fills, you might find yourself feeling tight or it getting stuck. This will Teach you what you can, and can't eat. Live and Learn ! But I am sure you will eat again, even your surgeon will want you to eat, so I wouldn't worry to much about this part. Talk to your surgeon also.

    Confused On What To Eat!

    Well I eat chicken, but the dark meat. White meat won't go down. I also take all my other meats and fish, and use a sauce on them. Like steak sauce for Tenderloin, or BBQ Sauce for Pork, All food is weighed or on certain sites, you can account for 1 Drumstick, or 1 Pork chop, 1 fillet of fish. Potatoes I usually eat 1/4 cup mashed/gravy vegetables: as long as they are not to stringy like celery. They should be O.K.. Breads, Pasta I don't touch. Rice if in a sauce a little is O.K. too. Hope this helps, because you will eat, don't worry about that fact. Shirley.

    Throwing Up And Often

    If you have to go for a slight unfill, "and I know you don't want to." get unfilled while sitting up with your leggs hanging over the side. Have a glass of Water handy, and wen you start swallowing. they start to withdraw, When you feel the water just drop right threw, and into your stomach, give a thumbs up means your good to go. good luck, Shirley.

    How Much Can You Eat At 4Cc Fill?

    That sure seems like a lot of food to me. I have a 4cc band, that's the original Band. This depends on you, and how you choose to eat, exercise, and live your life. I belong to myfitnesspal.com It helps me keep track of everything that I eat, Proteins, Calories, Exercise, and much more. It's also kept in Memory, and I can View other people's Diary, to get ideas from what other people are eating, and stay under 1200 calories a day. It's FREE too ! You can go on site and look around. Look me up if you want,and I will Friend you in. I'm Losingintime on that site, and a lot of us are over there from here. I only have 1.5cc's in my band, and I need a fill big time. I go in next Thursday, and will be glad to get a fill. I'm sure you need one to. Anyway once you do get another one, it might bring up the tightness in your band, and believe me,,, there ewill be certain foods that you just won't cut back on ! They might not even go down at all. So start fresh ! Eat low cal, get some exercise, and eventually get a adjutment. Shirley.

    My 14Cc Band Is Maxed Out At 10Cc"s?

    I have a 4 cc band and at about 3cc's I was way over filled. I had to go back to the surgeon, and he stuck a syrenge in, and the plunger just popped up ! ! ! He said WOW !! I asked whats's wrong ? He said when that happens the balloon in the band is blown. So I never seen it get to the point where it's Maxed Out. BTW it was not blown.
  18. There is another answer in your statement "STRESS" is a major factor on that band tightening up Anger, any thing that can upset you, will also cause this to happen. Another one for some people is the Weather ! When a low pressure system comes threw, it can tighten it right up for you.

    Muscle Milk

    I drink the MM Lite in powder form. 2 scoops & 8 oz Water makes a flavorful shake. 4 oz. and in the freezer makes a pudding. I don't care for their chocolate ! So I buy there chocolate milk, and it is good! vanilla creme, strawberry milkshake, Peanut Butter chocolate, Cookies n creme, are very good and flavorful.     Food Stuck Vs Restriction??

    I have had my band deflated, and food would always get hung up. Imagine a flat tire on a rim. It's there, but it doesn't work right. Same thing. When they filled it a little and that locked it in, I got hung up a lot less. I new to take small bites about the size of a dime, and chew till it was like applesauce. As long as I would eat that way, I wouldn't get stuck. Certain foods are just not for me anymore. Bread is one of them. Restriction to me is when I have no desire to eat for about 6-8 hrs., then I eat a small amount of food, but try to keep my protein up, and calorie intake down. That's how I see Restriction.
  21. Well I am a food Addict. If I have proper Restriction where the Hormone that causes the Hunger is supressed, I'll lose weight, because I have no appetite. If I am not at Restriction, I could eat every 2-3 hrs.! So it is a battle, but you can learn to try to take charge of yourself. It's not easy ! It depends on your drive, and how bad you want it. If bad enough, It can be delt with.I dont think you'll ever see a size 2, but you could live in a normal range, and lead a better life. Only speaking from my own experiences. Shirley.

    Surgery Worries

    1. I have had Gallblader removed,appendix, and exploritory. 2. hernia repair. 3. another hernia repair 4. 4 quandrants of my mouth recontoured 5. LapBand, Hernia Repair, Scar tissue Removal, Lymphnode in the Groin removed. "OUCH !" 6. Right Knee total replacement 7.Left Knee Total Replacment The Lap Band scared me half to Death. I was never so nervous. I was on the table for 4 hrs., and the band took 25 minutes. Trust me,,,, don't worry ! Go out and try to Celebrate your new Birthday, and your new life. Hope this helps

    Pre-Op Diet

    Soups, popcycles, jello, pudding, protein shakes, s.f kool-aid, s.f. Lemonaide, anything in liquid form. Even homade juice if you have a juicer.
