First of all, you said you where going to be banded in November, It's now March. Have you gained weight since then? If your honest with yourself and the answer is yes, then a little assistance will not hurt you... How you do it is up to you, but the band is pretty good to have. There will probably be certain foods that you can't eat, and maybe you can> I think it depends on how tight you are. I can't eat bread at all, but,,, it is just a addiction "BELIEVE IT OR NOT !" After about a week you won't even miss it.. There will be some things that you won't miss, and some things that will be new to you that are actually good, n good for you... As far as the friend. She should practice what she speaks or don't ramble on. You know what is good for you. Now cold feet we, all get them. I have had worse surgery getting a tooth taken out. It broke, so he had a great time fishing, and I thought I was going to die in that chair. This surgery was a lot less. It took 30 minutes to put the band on and finish. I really didn't have much pain for the band. They took out my Lymph nodes (GROIN) Now that was tender.. This is reversible!!!!! If you don't like it change it. Point is: it's not as bad as you think. I hope this helps some. -

You have a very wise Mother. Tell her from me that I take those words as Gospel... I hear enough from the no-it-alls, and wannabees. Sometimes you can't help but laugh. -
Does decaffeinated tea count as water?
54Shirley replied to kab1278's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Water is just that water... You can flavor it with tea, coffee. berries sitting in water will flavor it, lemon, or lime. My point was however you use your water through the day, "even if you wanted a packet of instant oatmeal" AND YES THAT IS CALORIES" the water in the fridge can be used for that, and it counts for your daily intake of water. Jello, Soups, concentrated juice, "so you can measure" Etc. As long as you add water to it,,, it counts. It just doesn't have to be drank, it needs to be consumed. -
Does decaffeinated tea count as water?
54Shirley replied to kab1278's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sure !!!!! It's made out of Water....... I found a method to their madness of getting in 64oz. a day, and it even blew my surgeon away. It's to hard to get a 10oz glass of this or a 16oz of that, and keep figuring throughout the day I told him." Really,,, and what do you do that's so special?" I'll tell you. I take a Ice Tea jar, and fill it every night to the top, Then the next day I make sure I use i/2 of that gallon for my drinks, Soups, shakes anything. By the evening if it's not 1/2 gone I will take a tall glass and it's done. Then I wash it out and fill it over again for the next day. Boy ! ! ! was he impressed! He said he was going to suggest that to his patients, to make it easier to monitor their Fluid intake. Now it's shared with all of you. Try it, and good luck. Shirley. -
How Can People Who Share the Same Struggle Be So Judgmental?
54Shirley replied to BASIMAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a support site. At least in was when I joined in 2006. If there are some people that are very rude, or creating a problem for you. Then you will have to understand, that they don't belong here at all ! ! Again this is for support. Not to get in your case, or give you a hard time. You have other people in your life for that.. So I don't know what was said, and trust me when I say I don't want to know. Mistakes are also made, with that in mind remind them that this is a support group.. If they don't like or approve of it. TO BAD ! FIND A LIFE, AND GET THAT LIFE.... Don't give up on the good Shirley. -
Considering Lap Band - Have MS
54Shirley replied to Melissa1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My shrink flunked me because of a Disorder that I have. The Doc's. nurse came in the office, handed me a test, (the looks were terrible) and said here do it! Well I did, she came back in and laughed as she said (it's a good thing that you answered them all !) I said what if I didn't? She said he would have bitched you out ! The Dr. came in, and looked at me like (MAYBE IF I LOOK AT HER ALL AROUND, I WILL SEE WHATS WRONG...) He said I don't care what that shrink says, you understand... Of course I understand, you think I'm stupid or something? No, no... I don't have to go buy what she says, I'm the surgeon, and I say your fine. Annnnd, what is this shrink saying??? You don't comprehend. WHAT??????? ARE YOU SERIOS, SHE'S CRAZY ! ! ! He said yeagh, I know, and disabled or not, your approved for surgery. -
That was one crazy day!

Sounds like you went where I went. It's screwed up isn't it? They can reject you, if you are under your BMI weight. (THE INS. CO. HOPE FOR THAT !) But sounds also like one doesn't know what the other one is doing???? Not Good, for right of the start.. If I were you, I would ask even the people on this site. Does anyone know of a good Surgeon in ------------------------------. I'm sure you will get a response. Not to mention you can look up surgeons in your state, on the opening page of this website. Just scroll down, and you will find the states. See if your guy is on there also. But remember this! This is for life, and you need good follow up care. Ask yourself if you do get through this at this place, Do you think they will be there for you, for all your follow up care. Just give that a thought. Remember me! I got pissed, wanted it out because of his shotty work, and B.S. , and I found a great understanding PROFESSIONAL ! place. So it doesn't hurt to move on at all. I know the feeling about being bummed, but if you get on the phone Monday, and can't get ant satisfaction. I would really start looking. Good Health to you. Shirley. -
This is ridiculous and I'm pissed.

When I first had surgery in 06. The rule was 50G of Protein a day for LIFE ! About 9 months later it was moved to 60G of Protein. I'm no Dr., but I am a patient, and I know if you don't start getting in the Protein, you could lose your hair, and have a very low Vitamin level, which can make you tired. Sometimes v e r y tired ! If your going to retain fluids, you might as well get your protein too. I would. Also ,, it's not unusual to gain some weight, because the body will hold the Fluid. With the protein. Say 25G of protein to a 8 once glass.... o.k.,,, you know you are having a problem with the Water. So,,, cut the amount of water in 1/2 and put the mixture in a desert bowl, and freeze it. You now have 4oz. of pudding. FLINTSTONES CHEWABLES COMPLETE WITH CHOLINE is what everyone takes at Henry Ford Bariatric Center. I do about 4 a day, keeps me peppy. Buy some flavors that you would like, and the people on this sit will help you out, with nutrition since you don't have a nutritionist.. Shirley -

Stage 3 HELP PLEASE!
54Shirley replied to mint2bskiny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a Blender or food processor, you can chop up peaches or strawberries, and have that with your cottage cheese. You can mush up any type of fruit for a dessert or anything, Just remember to skin it. Poached eggs or softboiled were good. Remember little piece only... You already now know the rest ! I did do flavored packet oatmeal though. It was o k to do. Good Luck! Shirley. -
OMG...1st fill a couple hours ago!
54Shirley replied to meluvnme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep ! 3 days on liquids, then work towards the mushes. If still tight, go back to shakes, liquids. Here is what they tell us From HENRY FOR BARIATRIC CENTER,, If you get food stuck, this is a recipe for DRANO for LAP BAND. Take a shot glass, add some ADOLPH'S meat TENDERISER, then Water. Mix well , and swallow and leave it there, it will eat through the clog....... Check that with your Dr., if he ever heard of this, We all are told about it at H.F...... Anyone else here of this? -

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
54Shirley replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 10/31/2006. I was nervous but they gave me something to be comfterable. When I was getting ready to go into surgery. I remember a nurse saying to me (WELL, ARE YOU READY FOR A NEW LIFE? I said YES ! ! !" The surgery room was all covered in comfortable white soft cotton. "This way they pick it up,and throw it away, so almost no chance of infection." I was very comfortable. They put me on a Morphine pump which I didn't want to use. They couldn't understand why???? I was still fine from the anesthetic.... Only mistake they made was I got a call at 7:30 the next morning telling me I had no Ins. for Nov. Well we pd. to take it for 1 more month, So I took the lady's name, phone number, and extension for them to call, and find out it was paid for, and they were wrong. By that time it was 9:00, and they said I would be paying for that day. So my husband packed me up, and I was just getting wheeled out when the pone rang. They said it's our fault, and it's all straightened out, so yes you have Ins., were sorry for the inconvenience. I told them were leaving, we were on our way out when you called. She got so shook up. I didn't want to hear about it. I was suppose have the weekend in there "HE DID 3 DIFFERENT SURGERIES ON ME THAT DAY, 3 HRS. ON THE TABLE.' I was sore, so we went home -
Need a Little Encouragement

Tricare Prime-- Not overweight long enough?
54Shirley replied to srhall13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is excellent News ! Congrats. on getting that straight. As far as the Doc's go..... You have to remember, to a lot of them,,, this is just a business. " I KNOW, I HAD ONE LIKE THAT' Your better of moving on,and finding someone new. If ! all it is , is business. I found a new one in northern, Michigan. I had gone to one of Michigan's best. I lost weight, he screwed up ! I regained almost all my weight. So a different Doc. took me in just to see who was full of it "HE WAS !" and they believe me, so I am getting a fresh start all over again, and I have not felt better. If you have to put up a search on the post op site about a Doc. You will hear if anyone knows of him... If you do end up looking. Wherever you go, all those notes "visits" can be transferred to the new one. So it's not like you have to go threw it all again, Just so you know. Great Job,, Very Happy for you, Shirley. -
Tricare Prime-- Not overweight long enough?
54Shirley replied to srhall13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These are all excellent points ! ! You might want to look up your plan on line, and see what the requirements are. Or,,, simply call them. If they have no problem, ask them if they know of someone? "A SURGEON" They might suggest a "CENTER OF EXCELLENCE" is where it must be done at.. If that is so,, start looking. Also you can ask anyone on this site if they have used a DR. --- out of ---..... Good Luck, Hopefully it's just your surgeon, and not the Ins. Keep in mind if you have been heavy all/part of your life. They might want to know this. Not necessarily 100LBS., but still overweight, and growing. That's for your own help. Shirley -
Protein Shakes, whats the best one out there
54Shirley replied to NicVio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I go on ebay and check out the different types of MUSCLE MILK. They have a lot of different flavors through the dealers. It's recommended to us threw our Bariatric Center. I'm actually shocked that their are a lot of people saying they don't like it ! I like cookies, and cream, strawberry milkshake, peanut butter and chocolate, chocolate milk, and vanilla creme. I can only make the suggestion to check out their different flavors. If your interested. -
Stage 3 Pureed Foods...I need help!!!!
54Shirley replied to slt1027's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only recommented because you said pureed foods....... which is done with a blender, or processor. Now if you can have heartier stuff., that's a different story. Ask your Dr.'s office for a list or suggestions, on what they prefer, or have,. -
Stage 3 Pureed Foods...I need help!!!!
54Shirley replied to slt1027's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This helped me a lot. I looked up Soups in food processors, drinks in food processors. Fruits are good to puree. Peel the skins off, and it becomes like a applesauce. Believe it or not soups came through with a lot of different soups, and cream soups. Look it up on the Internet. Good Luck. -

I get my calories info from calorie king, and I journal it in a 5 subject notebook. This way my surgeon can go threw it, and see how I am doing.

HELP! Should I not lose the weight?
54Shirley replied to DreamLife36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a lot of protein, it can cause you to gain weight. There's a thought to help you out. But don't loose weight or you may be out of luck. Whey is suppose to put on weight. Good Luck.
