Ask your insurance company to send you documentation on what is needed for the surgery to be covered. I had mine do that and it was black and white on what was needed. This will probably cut down on the number of calls and will help in sending in the appeal. Just call them up and request the information now. That way you can get your appeal set up.

Also banded yesterday...another Question
texasweb replied to TammMC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was given a precription for infant anti-gas when I got my lapband. I use Gas-X chewables all the time. The best thing is walking. I am getting ready to switch to Gax-X gels, but I am 6 months out now. -

Does your Dr do an upper GI at every fill
texasweb replied to fatgirlinNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor has not done any. They insert the needle into the port, withdraw the Fluid, and put that fluid plus more on a fill. Once the fill is done, they have me sit up and drink a glass of Water to see how it goes down. If I have no problems and I feel okay, they leave it like that. Otherwise they will withdraw some of the fill. How much does you doctor charge for a fill? -
I like Campbells Soup in a Can Healthy Choice Creme of Chicken Soup. You can heat the can in the microwave and it is not as thick as the creme of chicken you buy to cook with. I also would eat chicken or turkey vienna wiennies from Armour. I would also make seafood gumbo without the seafood. Louisiana Fish Fry has a dry mix that you just add boiling water to and simmer. I would then break that into 7 containers and freeze.

I have no trouble with any spicy food. I use salsa and hot sauce in my eggs, I add chili oil and peppers to my chinese food, I eat blackened catfish. I love cajun food.

I was thinking my doctor said 2 weeks .. but I am not sure. I was banded on Feb 6th. I was too sore around the port to have it before then anyway. -
Surgery in 42 hours, 10 minutes and 31 seconds
texasweb replied to Scottinnh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 55 when I got my surgery on February 6th this year. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I was taking 4 shots a day .. 2 lantus and 2 byetin pen. I was taking 3 diebetic medicines .. high blood pressure medicine and high chloresterol medicine .. I have not taken anything since the day before the surgery. I have lost 71 pounds and 12 inches from the waist. It has been a great tool. -

First 90 days is the global period .. all adjustments should be okay during this period .. that was my thought .. -
I used to go to the Chinese place and get the broth from the Won Ton soup. It had a good flavor and they would only charge me $1 for a quart.

Walking is the best thing. More you walk, the better it is for you.

My eval was like Jodi's, except I only had 1 visit and went over the results after the test. My doctor required it from all his patients also. My insurance required it too, but I don't think there are any required tests. I have heard that some people have to have consuling after the eval before the Dr will proceed, but I think that is a very small percentage.

Help with Protein shakes
texasweb replied to rmanns00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control Rich Dark Chocolate. Walmart sells them for $4.97 for a 4 pack. Each has 17g protein. They also come in Strawberry Creme, French Vanilla, and Chocolate Fudge, but I like the Rich Dark Chocolate the best. They are best when they are chilled real cold, but don't freeze them. -
Congratulations .. keep it up!

Breastfeeding in public:
texasweb replied to Wheetsin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I only breast feed in my bedroom when my wife and I are alone. -
My port is very noticeable. The doctor had to place it almost in the center of my stomach because there was not enough fat where he usually puts it. You can see where the port with my shirt on, it protrudes out. This has been like this since it was placed. Now that I have lost over 60 pounds, it is more pronounced. I am glad I am not a lady, because it would really upset me. I don't like it showing, but I can deal with it.

I have Anthem BC of CA, and had no problems with getting approved. They required a Psych eval, and a nutritionist assessment, but no supervised weight loss programs or anything like that. I called them and they sent me the information on Weight Loss Surgery. You need to call them and have them send you that. Also, they should of sent you reasons for rejection. You definitely have enough to qualify unless they have something very specific with the insurance plan that you have.
