My surgery was only 11 days ago, so I am not able to report much about it. It was the right decision for me. It is only a tool. You must be willing to follow strict dietary needs, and exercise to get the benefit from this tool. If you are not committed, then you might think twice. It is the least invasive of the different type of surgeries and can be reversed. I only had a significant amount of pain for 3 days where I had to take my pain medicine. I have not taken any diabetic medicine since the surgery. That has been great.

texasweb replied to nicolerose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow that is a long time before the 1st fill. I guess the doctor saw you losing weight and saw no need for a fill. I just got banded Feb 6, so I have not have a fill yet and do not have any advise for your question. Congratulations on your weight loss and your journey to better health. -
I am getting banded on February 6th with the Realize Band at Princeton Hospital in Birmingham Alabama.

I was real sore day 1 and day 2. I have not taken my diabeties medicine since the day before surgery. I had 1 week pre op diet. This morning .. i weighed and I have lost 25 pounds. They did not weigh me the day of surgery. I am walking regularly now. Took the dog with me this afternoon. Tomorrow I get off the liquids. I have not been been hungry.

Doctors have different instructions .. so follow your doctors orders. If something starts causing problems then regress back on the food types.

Well, the day is finally here. I am so anxious to get it done. My surgery is scheduled at 10:30 AM.
-
I have heard that Medicare does cover it. The doctor has to have some kind of certification for it to cover it.

My doctor has me on 5 days of low carb, high protein and then 2 days of clear liquids. It hasn't been too bad so far. I have been keeping my food journal in www.sparkpeople.com. I love it. I input everything I consume. Good luck on your banding .. you getting the Realize band or the allergan? I am getting the Realize. I have been starting to stock up for after the surgery. I will go Wednesday and get some last minute stuff. Keep in touch!

"Program Fee" for new provider/bariatric program???
texasweb replied to PosyFossil's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The insurance was probably changed due to the company changing insurance companies. If this is the case, then insurance will definitely not cover it. I would do like an earlier posts did is inquire if this is okay with the contracts that are established between the new insurance company and the surgeon. -

Is it worth it to start liquids a week early if Doc doesn't require..
texasweb replied to christymarie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you diet the week before, you will reduce the size of your liver and make things much easier for your doctor. I would go on a low carb diet for 5 days and 2 days of liquid. This will reduce the liver significantly. -
Will insurance pay for fills and not WLS?
texasweb replied to work_in_progress's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of CA. They will not. Here is the clause; HCPCS S2083 Adjustment of gastric band diameter via subcutaneous port by injection or aspiration of saline Note: medical necessity criteria for adjustments are based on whether or not the original surgery was considered medically necessary
