Just joined this forum. I have been part of obseityhelp.com since 1999. I am going to my 1st lapband seminar in Birmingham Alabama. I was referred to Dr DeWitt from my doctor in Montgomery. I almost got a VBG in 1999, but decided against it after being approved. I did not like the mortality rate and having the open surgery. I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. I don't think I will have a problem getting approved. I several co-mobidities and have a BMI of 41. I hope to get through the process as quickly as possible and begin losing weight. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, depression, and problems with my feet. If I don't lose the weight, then I will have to get another operation on my foot (the 5th). Just wanted to present myself. - God Bless.

Obese for 5 years? BCBS of Massachusetts?
texasweb replied to kimknight's topic in Insurance & Financing
I would think that it would have to be 35 over 5 years. Most insurance companies require comobities with BMI under 40 also. If your insurance company doesn't know, then it is a crap shoot. Hope the best in your endeavors. -
I use Dr DeWitt and love him and I live in Montgomery also. I knew that he charged $100 for fills, but I did not know that he would not file insurance for it. My 2 fills have been included so far because of being within 90 days. Did your wife file with insurance for the $100 to insurance?

How many have had Gall Bladder Surgery. Did you have it after/during/before the lapband surgery? Did you have any issues afterwards .. nausea .. dirreaha, etc Reason I am asking. My surgeon wants to remove my gall bladder next week. My wife found a few people had good results afterwards, but alot of people were miserable afterwards. I have some small gall stones, but they don't show to be inflamed. I am having alot of pain though.

HELP!! Need food advice for eating out...
texasweb replied to birdbrainzz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not eat anything except for the soup. Your stomach is still healing and I would not want to risk problems. I don't know what is in the mo po tofu .. but that might be alright. The lettuce is too soon. It also has the crunch rise noodles which will be bad. -
I eat either yogart or boiled eggs or scambled egg and turkey sausage. I like Jimmy Dean Turkey sausage best. It is pre cooked and tastes the best that I have found with precook turkey sausage. I drink 2 cups of nescafe Tasters Choice Def coffee (singles) with a Spenda Mocha flavored sweetner and coffeemate singles creamer.

"the lap band is only a tool" tell me how!!!
texasweb replied to lapbandme's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did not get the full feeling until after my 2nd fill. My 1st fill, I felt restriction for 2 days and then none after that. I stopped when I felt I had enough calories/carbs/protein for the meal. It is a tool by restricting food intake after some fills usually and once at the sweet spot giving you the full feeling. It will not work by itself. You must follow the doctors and nutritionist dietary plan, you must exercise and you must drink plenty of fluids each day. If you don't, you probably will not lose the desired weight you want. -
not losing any weight

Does anybody else feel cold or chilled at times
texasweb replied to Angie919's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I used to be a person who slept on top of the covers, even in winter. I now sleep under the covers and use a space heater in the room with me at night when I sleep. I drink coffee at night now where I never did before. -
I am happy that the person has not had to have a fill. Currently, there is no restriction. If you can get to your goal without a fill, then the band is not being utilized and the person could of saved the time, expense, and pain without having the tool installed. The surgery caused this person to have a mindset change, but this could of been done without the surgery if the person achieves the goal weight without any fills. I hope the person achieves her goal weight without a fill. I would like for you to tell me how I was sliming and PB'ing this individual.

If you can reach your goal without a fill, then there was no need in getting the surgery.

texasweb replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use sparkpeople.com for keeping track of what I eat. Some restaurant foods are listed. I do not eat out much, so I really don't have a problem with this yet. I know there are some PF Chang dishes among some other restraurants. -
Just curious .. If you had had your port flipped, please respond in the poll whether it was a realize port or Lapband port.

My surgery is finally scheduled!
texasweb replied to Lois Ruth's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Y A H O O ! ! ! Just follow the pre-op diet. It is designed to reduce your liver size and make things easier for the surgeon and less pain for you. -
My instructions were not to use them for 6 weeks. After that, it was fine.

I have Anthem Blue Cross of California and they cover Lapband and RNY and maybe some others. They were very fast in getting approval.
