Hiccuping and burping are normal.. I can guess it's because we have a big open stomach area below our pouch and the gas/air can get in there easy enough. I have been burping more then normal (never really had gas before surgery) but nothing horrific *knock on wood!*

It's normal. Some people experience more pain with gas and bloating then others but the ones who do are in serious discomfort. It passes though. Walking helps more then anything probably. Also gas-x.

6 days post op and hardly able to eat...help!
bethm replied to teacherica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh come on. Big deal. I saw that post they made. I can see how it might put someone on the defensive but maybe it was an honest question. Some people hear the word diet and after many years their backs are automatically up. It can be a trigger for people. But 12 posts berating and being snarky and bashing someone for a run to the border seems a little over the top. Even if the person is a troll there are 100 others who may have screwed up their diet on here probably feeling pretty crummy after reading the flamefest of disdain. -
26 days post-op and not losing...
bethm replied to MzALiSoN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Add me here too  Had surgery Dec 11th. Went on mushies Dec 22nd and haven't lost a pound since even though I'm not eating that much relatively speaking. Though I know that all I am really eating for mushies is eggs, mashed potatoes and refriend Beans. Maybe my mushie choice isn't good since most of it is carbs. Who knows! If anyone has any advice for mushies that may help lose weight please let me know. -

sheesh.. what's going on here that needs the self righteous flameathon? -
I guess what's confusing to me is that I'm a newbie. I don't have any restriction in my band yet. Doc said it's wide open. I do feel hungry but not ravenous. Do I have a pouch to worry about? Or does that happen when I get my first fill? PS: Sorry I don't mean to hijack your thread! Just curious...

Does that mean the 5 day thing doesn't work for banded? Or vice versa? I know I'm reading it wrong. lol Looooong day at work.

grrr... one of the most aggravating things on these boards is everyone's doctor has a different plan. My doctor said avoiding carbonation is a myth. Your stomach is a pretty tough muscle and it's not going to blowup by drinking soda. It's like the poprocks myth imo. That said I don't drink soda. Diet soda doesn't taste good to me. So I don't really worry about it. I did drink mountain dew prior to surgery and for obvious reasons no longer do that. It makes sense logically you can stretch your pouch by overindulgence though and there is a 5 day pouch shrinking diet on some website that looked pretty interesting.

Juli you're my hero :tongue2: 172 pounds.. wow!

Ok confession time - who "fell off the wagon" during the holidays?

My doctor allows sodas that aren't flat. He says the carbonation thing is a myth. Your stomach is a strong muscle.. bubbles aren't going to burst it. He also said I could drink wine. Didn't ask about beer though since blech and I was a mountain dew drinker before.. so diet soda tastes gross to me anyway. I discovered Isopure today since I'm at work and there's a Vitamin world nearby and I wanted to buy some chewable Vitamins. It's pretty cool. Tastes like jolly ranchers. MUCH better then the unjury Protein shakes. I'm soooo sick of them. -
it's not that fragile.. call your surgeon for piece of mind but I wouldn't worry about it. You probably just irritated it a little and it's swollen up. It can do that for a year after surgery I've read.

Hi all! Good luck.. you'll be fine and this is such a great thing to do for yourself. Don't forget to come join in the december 2008 forums (look below). There's a lot of us who were banded in december there :tongue_smilie:

You guys think that once we're on solids it will pick back up again? Or will we need to get fills?
-
Doing good! I started mushies Mondayish and haven't lost a pound since. Kinda bummed about it because I don't think I'm overeating or anything. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Also I'm hungry.. way more then I was on my Protein drinks. Any suggestions? What are you all eating on the mushy phase for the day?

hmm wonder if lasagna in the blender would be considered a puree and actually be good -
Hi! Had surgery on December 11th.. (16 days ago). Nothing really remarkable has happened. But today any time I "eat" (mushies and right now pureed french onion soup) I get this tingly feeling between my shoulderblades. Anyone else get this? It's kinda weird. It's mostly right inside my left shoulderblade.

Tingling between shoulderblades?
bethm replied to bethm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope..no gas pain at all and this is weird.. it's uncomfortable not painful. -

Ooo grats FWWAB! I'm so jealous you can sleep on your tummy! I haven't lost a pound since I started mushies day before yeserday. Boooo.. Also struggling to get any food in me anyway.. 3 times a day I eat about 5 tablespoons of something. I think below the 1200 calorie suggested diet to help continue to lose weight. Plus it's snowy out so I can't walk or anything.

My doctor calls them purees (but I clarified he meant mashed potatoes and babyfood consistency stuff). I start them today. 11 days after surgery. I'm so very aware that I want to make sure I heal properly because I'm a gigantic poodle and never ever want surgery again for slippage etc. lol Can you help clarify that these would be considered mushy foods?: butternut squash mashed fat free refriend Beans with sour cream and cheese pastina with lowfat butter and parm cheese hummus then basically anything stuff in blender like we're having crown rib for christmas.. thought I'd stuff it in blender and have that with applesauce. (doc said this would be ok.. ) and white fish (haddock) baked but NOT pureed in blender because EWWWW (very curious about this.. I can eat this baked "whole" yes?) And how much should I limit myself to? Because I had 3/4 a cup of pureed low fat chili earlier and still didn't feel full (but wasn't extremely hungry! And should I continue my Protein shakes to make sure I get in my protein so I don't shoot my hair out like a hedgehog and I minimize saggy skin? Thanks so much for helping this newbie!

B-12 shots anyone?
bethm replied to Losing_It_In_Texas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mmm b12.. they're also used for depression. It's called the happy shot around here lol I take Biotin which is supposed to be similiar... promotes carb Protein and fat metabolish and makes hair and nails healthy and strong. -
How is everyone? Got my staples out yesterday and moved to a pureed/mushies diet. Yay! It's amazing how remarkably better I feel with the staples out. They were really bothering me but i thought it was incision pain.. turns out it was staples pain. Mushies is going well. A little afraid of eating the wrong thing and not losing or regaining the weight I've lost. But I am feeling better today then I have in a long time  Happy Holidays
