what kind of inscion is used with lap band
alicez replied to Ms.allen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Traditional Lap-Band surgery usually involves five small incisions into the abdominal cavity. Most of these are no more than one to two inches in length. These are used for placement of cameras and surgical equipment. If necessary, a larger incision may be made, up to five or more inches in some cases. This is rare, as it usually only happens during a complication or if the Lap-Band is being placed during another procedure, such as a tubal ligation or other surgery. Thanks -

Just visit your medical practitioner and follow what he/she suggested. And take full information about your surgery, cost, benefits, coverage and all. Thanks

Lap band revision to Gastric bypass
alicez replied to band75's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Dumping syndrome occurs when food enters the bloodstream too quickly. It is a common effect of gastric bypass surgery because the natural stomach outlet (pyloric valve) has been removed and food enters the small intestine more quickly. Gastric bypass patients commonly experience dumping syndrome after eating sweets or high-fat foods, eating too much food, or drinking fluids with meals. Think about it. Take more suggestions from your medical practitoner. Good luck with your decision. Cheers -

alicez replied to LAPBAND101's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As for as i am concerned, Nilesh A. Patel, MD, FACS, and Brent Bell, MD, are board-certified surgeons who specialize in weight loss surgery. Together, they have performed more than 2,500 successful bariatric surgeries. Their practice was recently featured in Newsweek magazine's showcase section as one of the top bariatric programs in the state. All the best... -
Begin or resume an exercise program with which you are comfortable. Aerobic exercise can boost the rate at which you lose weight and get better your cardiovascular health. Talk to your medical doctor about starting a post op diet before you begin. Take the Vitamins and dietetic supplements recommended by your doctor.

I would like to add one most important thing...The Lap-Band is not a magic pill. You still have to work to lose weight. You have to watch what you eat, and you have to exercise. Take Care

The Band is made of silicone rubber, and cannot be rejected. Of course it can become infected and require removal, but this is not the same as being rejected like a transplanted organ. Most surgeons use antibiotics to prevent infection, but rarely, some patients may develop an infection around the port site.

Did you have to do pre-op diet??
alicez replied to THEMAXWELLFAMILY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The purpose of a pre-surgery diet is to reduce body fat around the stomach and liver, as well as shrink the liver itself. If the liver is too large, the surgery may have to be postponed. -

It is important to follow your surgeon's pre-surgery dietary and nutritional guidelines. Not only will your pre-surgery diet help prepare your body for surgery and improve the outcome. Thanks -
Yes, some women maybe attracted to slightly chubby men, but most women are turned off sexually by overweight men. Most likely, she will think that you are lazy, is not bothered with your own health and that you are more than likely proned to obesity related diseases. If that is her perception, how do you think your chances will be if pitted against a healthy looking male counterpart for her attention? So if you want to attract women, the first thing to do is to start losing weight now.

That's great...Congratulations. Cheers

When you've decided to have lap band surgery is the right choice for you and your weight loss goals, your Medical practitioner will put you on a fairly strict lap band pre-op diet to prepare your body for the surgery. Caloric Intake: a limited calorie intake of 800 to 1,200 calories per day liquid Diet: In the last week or two before surgery, you'll likely be asked to begin a liquid diet. Protein and Protein supplements: Protein will be an important part of your pre-op lap band surgery diet. In fact, you'll need to consume 70 to 120 grams of protein each day, as directed by your surgeon. Cheers!
