Nausea from Multi-vitamins?
alicez replied to Debster21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The form of Vitamins and minerals you take is very important. In the case of Iron, for example, iron tablets are awful for gastric band patients. They can have trouble passing the narrow opening caused by the band and thus wind up sitting on top of the band causing irritation. A chewable form of iron is always a better choice than a tablet form. Take your vitamins before bed, If you're not a good pill taker, or seem to "never remember" to take your vitamins, you'll need to vastly improve those habits! -
What test did your doc require pre op?
alicez replied to sheryl2009's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pre-op tests are required before any surgery is scheduled. These tests include: Upper G.I. Series, EKG, Chest X-Ray, Gallbladder UltraSound, Blood & Urine Analysis and are required before any surgery can be scheduled. These tests can be done by a lab or local hospital preferably through your doctor in your area. -

Pre-Op diet totally depends on your BMI. Patients to maintain a high protein/low carbohydrate diet prior to LAP-BAND® surgery. Specifically, this means no bread, no pasta, no rice, no potatoes. The duration of the diet depends on the BMI: 7days for BMI's under 40, 10 days for 40-50, 14 days for BMI's over 50.

Dear Board Members, Merry Christmas to you and your family. There are some foods you should avoid, including: Sugar and sugary foods, including: high-calorie soft drinks, syrups, honey, jelly, jam, cakes, Cookies, candy, ice-cream. High-fat foods, including: chocolate, chips, pies, pastries, ice-cream, bacon, sausage, fried foods, cream Soups, cream sauces. High-calorie drinks, such as milkshakes, soda, beer, orange juice, apple juice, other fruit juices, whole milk. Starchy and white flour foods, such as Pasta, rice, and doughy breads. Gaining weight to so insurance will pay for Lap Band
alicez replied to mondk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Medically necessary for a patient: Patient's weight which should be 100 pounds or more above ideal weight or a BMI more than 40 or more than 35 with associated medical problems to qualify. Your BMI is OK just find individual insurance companies, like First Health, United Healthcare, Cigna, Great West or Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal. -
The post-op diet is primarily focused on consuming an adequate amount of protein. Protein is not stored by the body and sufficient quantities must be eaten every day - the daily minimum protein requirement is approximately 50 to 60 grams for women and 60 to 70 grams for men. During the recovery period, you will need to drink liquid protein supplements to make sure adequate protein requirements are met.

Any one do just a 7 day liquid diet?
alicez replied to missalissa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once your surgery date is set, begin 7days of reducing meal portion size. Each day eat less, until you’ve reduced your consumption of solid foods to liquids only. No eating at least 12 hours before surgery past. What do you think? -
If you need to take proper diet schedule please do consult with your medical practitioner. Anyways from my point of view your pre- surgery diet schedule should be... Breakfast * One serving of any two of the following: (toast, eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, fruits, or cereal). Lunch * One serving of Myocel (or any Protein supplement providing about 20-25 grams of protein per serving) mixed with skim milk, Water, or fruit juice. Dinner * One serving of lean meat or fish (pork, beef, chicken or fish) and one serving of green vegetables (lettuce, broccoli, etc.) Dessert * One serving of Myocel mixed with skim milk, water, fruit juice, or any high protein, low carb drink. Hope this will help you a lot... Thanks

Help question about smoking
alicez replied to CHERITCH's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Quit smoking and do not drink alcohol at least 2 weeks prior to the surgery. Smoking and alcohol intake increase the risk of complications and may also slow recovery. -

passing no gas...is that bad?
alicez replied to Queen Bee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In general it takes a couple of days to work function in proper manner. Some pass gas in one day, some in three or four or it could take a week. Some have burping shortly, some subsequent as well. It counts on your digestive tract and the kind of surgery performed. Complications may slow down or halt the process. Any persevering with a anxiety about difficulties should communicate her/his surgeon ASAP and not depend on online advice. -

BMI 40 and 230 lbs - how much can I lose?
alicez replied to incolorado's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you want to lose weight in a healthy way, you should fit in a exercise routine and a healthy diet so that your body can stay healthy! Exercise is good for the body. If you are overweight, the first thing to do is to cut on the unhealthy food (muffins, other cakes, sugary meals, salty meals, burgers, pizza, etc) and start to make your diet turn to salads, fruit, vegetables, lots of fluids. -

pregnant before surgery and ins approval???
alicez replied to delray's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's quite difficult to get approved furthermore during pregnancy, both the caloric and nutritional obligations of the mother soar. Failure to boost one's intake both of calories and certain Vitamins, especially vitamins for example folic acid, can outcome in poor development and diverse defects in the fetus, encompassing difficulties with the brain and spinal cord. Pregnancy before Lap Band Surgery not recommended and after 18 months it could be possible. I strongly recommend you confer with your surgeon and your obstetrician. Thanks -
I cant believe it! APPROVED!! :)
