Scared of my surgery
alicez replied to CurvasPeligrosas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lap band surgery can be lifesaving for many morbidly obese patients. Lap band surgery is safer than other forms of weight loss surgery. Gastric bypass surgery carries a mortality rate of 0.4 percent while vertical sleeve gastrectomy carries a mortality rate of 0.39 percent. Don't be Scared. Everything would be ok. Cheers... Thanks -
Smoking appears to make Lap Band surgery more risky, particularly with respect to development of strictures and surgical-margin ulcers. Obese smokers had a fourfold greater risk of stricture and three times the risk of marginal ulcer compared with nonsmokers undergoing weight-loss surgery. It would be good to quit smoking as soon as possible.

Can someone explain what "SLIMING" is??
alicez replied to Becca29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slimming is nothing but when you get certain thing stuck in the stoma where the band is on your stomach food will get stuck there and your body 's natural response seem to be to send mucus to that area for some reason. You get all this slim in your mouth and you try to swallow it but it won’t go down because there is an obstruction in the way so you have to spit it out. This is a genuine explanation. -

Once properly adjusted and on solid foods, lap band patients will have trouble eating certain foods and should avoid eating them, such as soft breads, tough or dry meats, fibrous foods like pineapple or asparagus, or skins of some fruits and vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes and grapes. -

Patients who are scheming to have lap band surgery are inquired to stop smoking six to eight weeks before surgery. Patients who do not smoke have less difficulties and it takes not less than a month for the lungs to recover. Smoking damages the lungs which raises the possibility of surgical difficulties. Quitting smoking is powerfully recommended.

How can I get rid of this cough???
alicez replied to carmen74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eat a healthy diet and exercise on a regular basis. You can prevent coughing by keeping your immune system as strong as possible. Avoid places that may trigger a cough. Cigarette smoke, allergies and air pollutants sometime cause coughing. Make an appointment with your doctor. If your cough lasts more than three weeks, visit your doctor to find out what is causing your cough. Your doctor will perform examinations on your ear, nose, throat and chest; he may also ask for diagnostic tests like a bronchoscopy or an X-ray. Hope this help you! Thanks -
Your pre-op diet will usually start several weeks before your procedure, during this time your doctor will have you refrain from as many carbohydrates as possible, so you will be avoiding foods like potatoes, breads, pasta and rice. These foods are too complex and cause your body to work too hard to break them down. Again it is very important that you follow the diet closely, as once you have the Lap Band surgery.

High Protein Level in my Blood Work
alicez replied to JJLaw08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you been eating a lot of beans or meat or peanut butter? If so, cut down on them and get your blood rechecked in a few months to make sure. Too much protein is not good for organs and can do damage. Usually, if the protein is high, the body excretes protein through the eyes. People who wear contact lenses, will see their lenses turn yellow due to this. Concerned, but not overly worried. For further information please do consult with your medical practitioner. -
There are many products which claim to tighten skin, however their results are minimal. Surgery is an option in extreme cases. Nourish your skin and encourage it's elasticity. Exfoliate your skin daily to encourage removal of dead skin cells. Doing this each day will stimulate your skin's circulation which should help in tightening skin up. Eating raw food such as cucumber, tomato, olives and coconut can mark an improvement in your skin's elasticity. Aloe vera extract, soy Protein and yeast extract can improve your skin's elasticity by increasing your body's production of elastin and collagen. It not only tightens your skin but your skin's natural defenses as well. Tummy Tuck/ Abdominoplasty is also a good option Abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck" is a surgical procedure involving the removal of excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightening the abdominal muscle wall. The procedure can make a dramatic reduction in the appearance of the abdomen.

Thanks for sharing...I've bookmarked the resource. -
You will usually immediately cough or snort and send the food right back out again. Another thing to try is a saline nasal rinse, which may help clear the food. However if you’re not seeing the food emerge pretty quickly, you do need to see a doctor. Food stuck can cause pretty nasty infections if not removed.
