Jack cracks me up with the use of his warped sense of humour in the manner in which he offers practical advice. Humour and practicalilty...great match and I always appreciate his input. (I also like his avatar!!)

Hi Eddie....I've only had the band since 21 Apr...but I did a TON of research on it before deciding "band or no band". I know everyone is different...and to each their own; I respect that. But, personally (this is MY opinion here so don't anyone jump all over me!!!) for ME....I would never ever EVER consider gastric bypass. Even though the risk isn't extreme....it is still a much greater risk than the band surgery. That is the main reason I would never have chosen to go down that road. Bottom line is that I love my husband too much to ever put myself at any "great" risk to leave him alone. And then, obviously there are the other issues (besides the surgery being so much more invasive) that occur afterwards with the bypass that I would never wish to subject myself to. But again...that is ME. You are taking the right step by coming on here and asking questions and researching...this will lead you to the info you need to do your own research and come to a decision that is right for you. Either way....all the best to you and congrats on deciding to take a positive step towards a healthier life! -
Question after question now I suspect!!

The first 2-3 days of the pre-op diet I had some headaches...but I knew they were from going thru carb withdrawal. Since then I've been fine. This is surprising for me because before, when I got hungry I would get really nauseous etc...and now even though I'm hardly eating anything (in fact I'm still only on "full" fluids right now and don't move into mushies until 13 May and solids on 27 May) I don't get "sick" or feel nauseous or any headaches. Thankfully!!! I think my body has now understood that I'm not trying to kill it....but quite the opposite so it isn't resisting!! Good luck. -
Hey Argon!! Hmmmm, so is it just you and me?? LOL....

OMIGAWD!!!! There is NOTHING wrong with Cdn beef!!!! There never really was...the origin of that original cow wasn't even Canada!!! The problem with the MadCow disease was only in Britian. People just like to perpetuate false rumours/info!!! No better steak than from Cdn beef (of course I might be biased!!)
-
LOL @ Argon!!! Now, wouldn't THAT suck????

Congrats on the solids!! I wish you freeness from the apparently dreaded PB!!! Myself....I don't start solids until 27 May!!! But my first fill is 2 Jun! Keep up the good work!

GO TO THE GYM!!! First of all who cares what ppl think (I know, I know, we all do to some extent!)...but...in all honesty, they will just think to theirselves, "hey...at least she is here and trying...that is great"....so just go. It will take no time before you are comfortable with the surroundings and enviornment and it won't even bother you!! Just stick with it! Good luck..have fun and enjoy!

Tks everyone; very helpful indeed!

Humans have toes so that we can pick up our fallen underwear without bending over. You nab them in your toes, flip them in the air, catch them with your hand and throw toss them in the laundry basket. I love my toes!

Don't worry....it is short lived; 2 days after surgery I was able to get out of bed (and into it) on my own without significant pain!

I HATE it when the TV Guide says your all-time favourite TV show is on a certain channel at a certain time and you set the VCR accordingly to tape it...then when you later sit back to enjoy our all-time favourite TV show...there is A DIFFERENT SHOW ON AND YOU HAVE MISSED YOUR (did I say all-time favourite?) TV SHOW!!!! This happens to me WAY too much....... :angry :angry :angry :angry :angry :angry :angry :angry

Hey, don't sell yourself short...walking 2 miles a day IS exercise!!! :clap2: :clap2: Good for you!

That's right MelAnne...you HAVE to eat!! Don't go to the other extreme...imagine what NOT eating will do to your body (not to mention the starvation mode which will then make you gain weight...or at least...not enable you to lose it). You can do it...it will just take some adjustments...don't forget, it is all still very new for you. Think positive and take the steps you know you have to take and you will (I guarantee) be a good bandit!! (plus, you are scaring me since I have yet to start on solids...Dr.s orders!!..and I don't want it to be a big thing when I do!!!).

...bumping... Hmmmm....nobody???!!!!

I'm a side and tummy sleeper too. THANKFULLY, I was able to manage sleeping on my slide about 5 nights post-op...and then on my tummy about 7 or 8 nights post-op. I'm just overly cautious when I turn over and stuff.

 ..ahhhh MelAnne....you slay me, girl!!!!! Scales outta your house...good for you!! Do what works!!! *still laughin'*...("with" you, not "at" you!!!)

I've seen this question before on here....no, the band will not set off any detectors. As for air pressure.....I'm no expert but I highly doubt it will have an effect.

Pre-op, not dieting and friends are "concerned". Help!

Okay, now THAT'S a GOOD one....do it!!!!!! -
During my 2 week pre-op diet I lost 16 lbs. The first week of the pre-op diet I was allowed ONLY chicken, yougurt, cottage cheese, and green veg. NOTHING else. I also only drank Water, and crystal light. The first 3 days were the hardest: I went thru carb withdrawal really badly and had headaches etc and was irritable! (ask my husband! lol). The second week all I could have was yougurt and cottage cheese...and since I don't like cottage cheese I only had yougurt. Yup, yougurt every day for seven days and nothing else. It got easier! But, it lost me 16 lbs and more importantly enabled the surgery to go really well. According to my doc the liver was in excellent shape and very manageable because of the weight loss. The bonus is....it's prob not as difficult for me right now (post op) wrt not eating since I already was so accustomed to eating very little! Good luck. NOt easy but worth it!
