Hi Loriely...I had my surgery with Dr. Joffe/Dr. Yau on 21 Apr. I'm sure it will go very smoothly for you. Good luck to both you and your hubby; it is nice that you will be able to support each other.

LOL y'all are too crazy. hmmmmm yet...surprisingly I can relate.... uh oh. Scary.

Jack!!!!! You slay me!!!!!!! -
I'm really quite fair and I burn at the drop of a dime. I'm a shade seeker. So, no I don't tan; I just learn to love my white skin. For what it's worth; several yrs ago I went to Columbia on a holiday (ya, Columbia...go figure...but hey it was cheap!!) and the guys down there were enthralled with my white pasty skin!!! They thought it was beautiful. I also have VERY strong opinions about tanning. Obviously everyone knows that the sun is harmful. And, not matter what they tell you at the tanning places....those tanning beds are JUST as harmful. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I've seen & read the Health Canada reports; it is NOT a pretty sight. And....this is regardless of your skin type.....so IMO STAY AWAY. But I know folks will argue with me...and that's okay, I know the truth.

MelAnne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It hasn't even been six weeks yet, girl!!! MIGAWD...I KNOW it is hard....we were banded at the same timeframe and I'm going thru the same stuff....but....P A T I E N C E is the key. I KNOW you are being a good bandster and doing it all correctly but you may NOT see the results you are looking for right away. That's okay. Remember, this isn't the RNY...this is a long road, a long journey but the destination IS in sight and you just have to focus on that. Just please be paitent and give it a CHANCE to work. Kay? Relax, go with the flow ...just keep on being a good bandster and you will see things will go your way....who cares if it take time....it WILL happen. Breathe. Breathe.

That is awesome. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Yep...have had it for several yrs...probably longer but they only diagnosed it about 9 yrs ago. Thankfully I don't have the hair issue. But missing/irreglar/heavy periods (big time cramping lately), insulin resistance (taking metformin), high cholesterol (controlled with meds), hypertension (controlled with meds), sleep apnea (use CPAP which I love), wicked hormone readings, skin tags, and apparently I have fibroids (treatment tbd). I hope future weight loss will resolve some of these issues....but you never know...skinny ppl also have PCOS.

Hmmmmm apparently I'll be a Zebra (23% higher than me). I don't think I want to live on the African plains being hunted down by tigers though!!! Plus, I'll spend the rest of that life trying to figure out if I'm white with black stripes or black with white stripes....*sigh*....I have a whole new life of frustration & unanswered questions to look forward to!!
-
Thanks for explaining NewSho...I'm sorry to hear that. Be strong...it will go alright and in the long run you will be better off for it. I also have a fibroid issue but I don't yet know the extent of it or the treatment involved in my case (if any)....I figured I'd take one problem at a time. This is my next one to tackle. I dearly hope that if anything needs to be done, it is merely the ablasion. Good luck and I wish you the best as you undergo the treatment.

I'm hoping someone can save me some time. I want to send an informative web-site (preferably with diagrams/illustrations) that explains the actual surgery to my mom (she lives far away). I did send her the live video of the surgery (Brigham's Women's hospital) but her comp doesn't have enough memory to run it. So, now I'm looking for something else that doesn't involve video (or at least involves a verrrry short clip). I thought some of you might have such a sight bookmarked already and save me the google search time. If so, I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

I thought they had ways of removing uterine fibroids now that didn't involve cutting etc....does the uterine albasion not take care of fibroids???

Ya know, I periodically look at the Canadian lounge but there are so few posts...so I was just wondering how many Canadians regularly come in here... So, if anyone is a fellow Canuck, it would be nice to know!! "True North Strong and Free" :embarassed:

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh, what memories the Heart & Crown brings back...that is where I had my first scotch (O'Ban)....Mmm mmmm...I don't drink anymore...but maaaan did I enjoy Scotch!! Yes, that is the best Irish pub (and I'm a red haired Irish Canadian, let me tell ya!!). Yes, I agree...downtown Ottawa is amazing and I too love the Byward Market. I MISS MY BEAVER TAILS!!!!! I've seen attempts at replicating them but nothing comes even close!!! *smacks lips*.....ahhh, skating on the canal with a beaver tail in one hand and a flask of scotch in the other!!! *chuckles* Tks for the walk down memory lane!
-
Very kewl...I'm there...right beneath Tommy O!!! LOL

There is little I like more than taking a long soak in my big tub. I am MISSSING it!!!:think I don't have any info about when I can re-commence indulging in my bath rituals. Did any of you get any info from your docs on this issue? If so, plse advise as to what was passed on! I don't want to have a bath "too early" but I also don't want to have to wait longer than I need to....ya know? Tks in advance!
-
Tks everyone. Sounds like I'll be waiting a couple more weeks before I can have my blissful bath!!! ummm...errr...and YES, I HAVE been showering on a daily basis!!!! :rolleyes :rolleyes

 Well, alas....all good things must come to an end!! I was fortunate enough to have two weeks off after my surgery but the time has come for me to return to work. Okay, truthfully, I will probably be happy to go back (I was getting bored - I'm not used to sitting at home!!) but sometimes there is a lot of crap at work to deal with (like for everyone, I'm sure)...but I'll muddle through. I'm hoping I don't get too many questions (ppl don't know what I had surgery for and I don't intend on telling them; not their business). Anyways, all that to say....I've had a blast spending a lot of time on here while I've been home. Due to a firewall, I can't access the site from work (this is prob a good thing!!) but I do intend on staying on top of things in here whenever I can from home. I will check in and try and throw in my two cents here and there. I've gotten a LOT of helpful info from here and I for sure want to stay "connected" and use it as a resource as I continue my journey. Who knows, I might even be able to contribute in some positive manner!!! hehe. So, tomorrow, I strap on my combat boots and head off to work!!! Thanks everyone! :)

I can understand your fear (I too had some fear) BUT ppl don't generally die from being "put under"...they die later from complications...and the lapband surgery is not a complicated one. Depending on the surgery and the related complications that your boss had...this is the reason the death occured. You may not know all the complications that occurred in his case...complications that wouldn't necessarily occur with this surgery. You'll know when/if the time is right for you...but don't let this one incident scare you away from it.

1. I'm still on "full liquids" (ie. thicker than just "clear" liquids)...I start mushies on 13 May and solids on 27 May. My first fill is 2 Jun. 2. Fave food right now...ummmm...can't say I really have one....maybe the butterscotch pudding (yeah, they count that as a full liquid...go figure!). 3. What do I miss the most: ummm....oh were to start!!! chips of course (my downfall) and the "Perogie Pizza" at Boston pizza (the absolute BEST)...and FRENCHFRIES!!!! Good luck to all!!! AND...keep up the great work all you April Bandits!!!
