Who went home the same day?

I spent the night but I knew in advance I would. The reason is because I have sleep apnea. At the clinic I went to...they keep you overnight if you have sleep apnea. I didn't WANT to stay overnight but had no choice...so I brought my CPAP and stayed the night. Because of that, I was the last surgery scheduled for the day (2:30). Everyone else I know went home the same day.

    The Honeymoon Phase

okay..wow...talk about beating a dead horse! All comments in this thread are worthwhile and appreciated but now it is just becoming repetetive and "I said/she said". (IMHO). Basically you (we) all fundamenally agree, in principle on ths issue. So, lets just all move on and get along. I just don't want to see this turn into another "argumentative thread" like the one on following your Dr.s advice a while ago. We all have the same aim....and we all agree on the big one so lets not stress the little stuff. The different sides have been eloquently expressed...now there is no need to keep going at it and raising accusations etc. Again...IMHO....(course I might be slammed now!!) lol

    Find Your Stripper Name

Hey Vegaswildflower...."Silverthong" eh? You must be related to my husband!! LOL

    Find Your Stripper Name

Lets shake it up for "DALLAS HEAVENTHONG"!!!! My husband's is "SUGAR SILVERTHONG" (I kept my maiden name, so our surnames are different yet our stripper names have the same last half!) LOL
  8. LMAO...that WAS a good one Wheetsin!!!! For the record though, I dislike poutine....blech!!!! Mind you, I'm not a big cheese fan let alone cheese curds!!! Ummm...travelled to la belle province of Quebec, I see? As for Vin....Mmmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmmmmmm I'm not normally a big fan of the big hulking muscular look but there has always been something different (appealing!!!!) about Vin.....Yummy!! :nervous :nervous :kiss2: :kiss2:
  9. LOL ahhhhh, leave it to you Wheetsin to adequately explain!!! I was also wondering, and now I have a very clear cut idea of what it feels like!!! LOL Thanks. (I think!).
  10. Here's another one that my husband just told me that made me laugh!!!! He used to live in Niagara Falls (Ontario, Canada) (at the border crossing for US/Canada) and he said folks used to come into Canada from the US in July with skiis atop their car and towing snowmobiles and ask where the snow was!!! He'd say about 1,000 km north. Others would come to our side of the border and then ask for directions to Canada. Ummmm you're standing in it!!! My husband and his friends used to give them directions which consisted going back to the US and using a different border crosssing to get into Canada (okay, now THAT is mean!).
  11. on that same note.... I'm a Canadian and on some of my travels to the US I have gotten some strange queries. Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying all Americans are this "daft" but these ones certainly were!!! When some Americans find out I'm Canadian, they assume the strangest things about Canada. I've been asked the fol (the scary thing being that they were indeed, serious!): - "do you live in an Igloo?" - " do you eat whale blubber?" - " do you have grass"? - "oh, you live in Canada? You must know my cousin, twice removed..." (yeah, cause there is ONLY 300 people who live in Canada and so the chances are good....) -"Your King rules Canada doesn't he" I've had Americans think the capitol of Canada is Quebec. Quebec is a PROVINCE, not a city (altho there is Quebec City). The funniest was..."oh Canada. Ya, I heard you have a mall up there now". "A mall?", says I. "Ummmmm, yeah, we actually have a lot of malls in Canada...now that we have roads and such". "That's good...malls are good for the economy", he says. "errrr ya, we're not gonna be part of the 3rd world anymore". AAAARRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

    Update and Question

Good luck MelAnne and keep your chin up....slow and steady wins the race!
  16. Hi Tina. I didn't really have any pre-op testing to go through other than having a chest x-ray, blood work and and ECG; all of which are routine and painless! I have already had sleep apnea for 4 yrs (& use a CPAP) so I didn't have to do a sleep study to find out if I had it. Other than that...no pre-op testing... People prob don't talk about the "actual" surgery cause they are sleeping!!! This is why you only see posts about the pre and post ops. My surgery itself went super well (according the doc)....in part (he said) because my livers was in such great shape which made it easier for him in there and made my recovery easier. I had lost 16 lbs during my 2 week preop diet (which consisted only of yougurt...I could have also had cottage cheese but I hate cottage cheese). I know that loss really helped to prepare my liver. Everyone is anxious to some extent about going under...so that is normal. I was also anxious....concerned I might not "wake up" and that I wouldn't see my husband again (who is my soulmate). But, I had his full support, all obviously went well. Good luck on your journey and don't fret too much.

    April Bandits 2006 May talk

Hiya....I was goin' gangbusters at first but now I've stalled (0 loss) for the last 7 days. I started mushies 6 days ago so that may have something to do with it (?). Plus, I have been exercising (no ab work!). I don't start solids until 27 May but I may start a few days earlier. Right now I'm certain I have nooooo restriction but I'm still trying to eat as if I do. I get my first fill on 1 Jun...I hope that will help. I'm in it for the long haul so I'm just trying to keep things into perspective and look at the overall goal. It's hard sometimes though....I really miss some of my food!!!! LOL. Everyone keep up the good work. One minute at a time if you have to!

    Sleep Study

oh and another thing....the study test your oxygen saturation readings. Folks with apnea aren't generally getting sufficient oxygen to their blood and organs.....another reason to get it treated...the long term effects are NOT good.

    Sleep Study

I've been using a CPAP for about 4 years.....I looooove my CPAP. My husband was diagnosed and also got one 2 years ago. We look & sound like 2 Darth Vaders lying in bed together!!! But, we both love them and it makes a world of difference. Even if my husband has to go away for only one night, he'll bring his with him. I'm too lazy and won't just for one night. DEFINITELY get your husband checked out. It can also lead to a lot more serious heart related issues if left untreated.

    My date!

The drs and the staff at the Centre are really quite excellent. At least, in my experience. No problems with my surgery; my scars are healing sooooo nicely & I'm very pleased with them. I didn't have as much pain/gas as some people said they did. The first 2-3 days were the hardest (ie. in terms of getting up and down)...the heating pad worked well for me and I took the demerol as prescribed " before" I felt any pain for the first 2-3 days. Then I didn't need it anymore. My pre-op was difficult but I got through it...and ended up losing 16 lbs during the 2 week preop. (this made the surgery a lot easier to do as my liver was in great shape...according to D. J.) Since the surgery I have lost 11 lbs. I thought I would have lost more but from my understanding the first 6 weeks are for healing and not weight loss so I'm just going to enjoy it and keep the big overall picture in mind and try not to lose perspsective. I haven't lost anything in the last week...again, trying to keep things in perspective. I just started my pureed food on 13 May...I start solids on 27 May (though I think I'm ready for it now!!). I get my first fill on 1 Jun....I then hope to start regularly losing the 1-2 lbs a week. For the first couple of weeks afterwards, what really saved me were popsicles...I got the fat free Delmonte juice bars...YUMMY!!! and they are only "single" popsicles which were great. Best of luck to you. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Explain your name on LBT...

These are cool!!! JJ: I love your attitude!!! Vegaswildflower: that is so sweet....

    Explain your name on LBT...

Mines probably pretty obvious...but like Poodles I am a HUGE LOTR fan (the theatre production in Toronto is spectacular, btw!!!) ever since I first picked up Tolkien in grade 6 (1976!!!). Anyways, I digress....I am also a very loyal Star Wars Fan. I was a goner the first time Hans Solo came into view on that big screen (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh... :P *snaps out of it*)....I still have the entire collection of trading cards from all the movies, I have a life size cut out of Hans Solo in my garage (my husband made me move him out of the bedroom!!!) which sometimes scares the hell out of me when I come into the garage at night..."omigawd, there's a thug in the garage....oh wait...tis merely my lovely Hans).. Yes, and how does this relate to Yoda...well I must say that Yoda has always been one of my fave characters and he is a ROCKIN' fighter and is the best jedi around! (yes, I do realize jedis don't actually exist...ahem!). Plus, lets face it...Yoda is damn cute, even though he is kinda green & he has a tiny light sabre!!!! (but he beats Kermit anyday!!). As well, a few yrs ago, a friend started calling me Yoda because she kept commenting on how good my advice was and saying that I was "wise beyond my years" etc etc.....Okay, I'll stop now..otherwise I'll go on forever. Sidenote: I'm fortunate enough to have met and married my soulmate, who loves Star Wars (& LOTR) even more than me!!!! Yes...tis possible!!!! Can't wait to hear some of your stories.

    Hate being weak!!

I know it is hard...I had to do a restrictive pre-op diet for 2 weeks. But you CAN DO IT. Get up and go for a walk (even if just around the house) when you are feeling anxious...pick up a good book or magazine...plug in a good movie...go online...something!!! What helped me is that I visualized all the "good" that this was doing to my liver in prep for surgery. And, it paid off in the long run, my doc said the liver was in GREAT shape and that it made his job super easy and would make my recovery easier. (it did). So, just keep visualizing that and it might help you too. It's hard now but it will get easier. KEEP IT UP!!!!!! Stay positive!
