  1. *sigh*... Hi Buffie. First of all, you are doing great! As Woodys said, a lot of it might be head hunger. I wasn't physically hungry for a couple of weeks and also found it hard to get the required amount down. But, I lived for the popsicles! Yes, you can add the Protein powder to your clear fluids...as long as it doesn't thicken....so you are good to go there. That will help with your hunger. As for the *sigh*. Plse just do what the TLBC tells you to do...do NOT listen to others who come on here and say "they" did this or that and to "go for it". That is just harmful advice and it ticks me off to no end! Can you tell? Listen to what the TLBC told you and follow their plan. Yes, I think it may be more stringent than some of the others out there BUT it is better for you in the long run. Not only will it help you heal better but it will jump start you and then you won't feel as "hungry" when you do start on your solids. I followed exactly what TLBC told me...yes, it was reallllly difficult at times but just try and put your mind onto something else. And...certainly drink whenever you like.....the clears and then after the first week the full fluids. YOU CAN DO IT!!! If I can you can....trust me!! LOL. Focus and think of the big picture.....good luck. :canada: :canada:

    Been there, done that.....whoo hoo!

WHooo hoooo Betty Boop!! That is great! Be kind to yourself this week! :clap2: :clap2: :canada: :canada:
  3. Melanne, Over the last couple of months there have been several posts from you with the same type of topic. From my perspective, you have received LOTS & LOTS & LOTS of "sound advice"...mainly being that you are, in fact doing NOTHING wrong. Yet, you obviously refuse to accept that and continue to possibly look for something that isn't there. I don't mean to sound harsh, but you gotta get a grip. I agree with Donna and most everyone here. And with the poster that said you are only a failure if you think you are. 19 lbs immediately around surgery...who cares..19 lbs equals 19 lbs. And you still refuse to understand and accept the "averaging concept". Your choice. Folks aren't just being kind and offering you a bone....you are losing faster than average...regardless of how you want to interpret or put a spin on it. Also, all the docs and all the info on the band ALL SAY NOT TO COMPARE YOURSELF TO ANYONE ELSE....you are you, just as I am me. Not to mention the fact (because you ARE losing faster than average) how do you think this makes the other people on here feel who truly ARE slow losers? Just count your blessings... Keep doing what you are doing and be accepting instead of critical. The choice is yours but it sounds like you won't be happy with anything and perhaps Donna is correct in her thinking....perhaps you do need some therapy.
  4. Yeeesh Melanne. I echo exactly what Donna said. CHILL. If you actually believe it isn't working and that an average of 3.5 lbs loss a week (28 divided by 8) (yes, I said AVERAGE....which can mean 0 some weeks and 6 in others)....then you have to SERIOUSLY re-think your definitions. Everyone is telling you the same thing...it isn't just to make you feel better, it is FACTUAL. FACT: your progress is GREATER than the average. WHAT, pray tell, more do you want??? Sorry to be blunt...but c'mon...think about it!

    I made it through surgery

Hey Buffie...you'll feel loads better when you are back home...in your own house in your own bed etc! Stephanie, you should be okay after 6 days....a bit tired....but okay...just don't overdo it if you don't have to; you'll still be healing!

    I made it through surgery

Hi Buffie....glad it went okay. Sorry that you felt rushed....but they may have come across like that without meaning to. Just so you know, BOTH Drs. Yau and Joffe would have performed the surgery on you. It is a two-person team that does it. So, they both would have been there...but you only would have met with one. It varies who you meet with right prior to the surgery...there is only a need to meet with one and sign the consent form etc.....(ie. I met with Dr. J); it prob depends on their schedules etc. But, rest assured, that both Dr. performed your surgery as a team. Be good to yourself this week and take care. Popsicles, Popsciles, Popsicles (sugar free, of course!). :notagree :notagree

    Argon's Excellent Adventure

Hey Mandi, I think you leave tomorrow (Sunday) for your Eastward Trek. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD LUCK and may the Force be with you!~! :rolleyes  :canada: :canada: :gluck:
  8. GRrrrrrrr Okay, here's the thing. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a brand spanking new digital scale (not cheap). There wasn't much wrong with my "manual" scale, I just figured if I had a digital one it would be easier to read instead of having my husband kneel down to read the "old" one. Well, I'm FED up with the inconsistency of this digital scale. Yes, I know to expect some inaccuracy and even some inconsistency but not THIS. For example, I got on it this morning and weighed in (being Fri and all...my weigh day). About 3 mins later I weighed myself again to "check" it and I weighed 2 lbs more. Okay, I KNOW I gain weight fast but obviously I didn't gain 2 lbs in THREE minutes!!!! (I had eaten nothing and drank nothing in those 3 mins). So, of course being curious now, I waited a minute and stepped on again and I weighed one pound more than the first time; one pound less than the second time. So I tried a few more times (to check consistency) and all readings varied...up to 2 lbs. WTF?????!!!! Now, I work DAMN hard for every pound I lose, so to have a scale that is mocking me like this and willy nilly giving readings that vary by as much as 2 lbs each time is hard to take. I can't handle that type of inaccuracy and inconsistency. It won't be a fair measure and will de-motivate me. I'm thinking of returning it. So, my question is....does anyone know if this is a normal occurrence for digital scales? Do I just have to get used to this? Or is this a "one-off" kind of thing and should I get a new/different digital scale or just avoid them altogether? Has this happened to anyone? My husband doesn't quite understand what the big deal is...but it is a big deal to me when, like I say, even a 1 lb loss is critical to me...emotionally and phsychologically speaking. Comments greatly appreciated! Tks.
  9. Yup, just openly communicate all this with your husband. I betcha he is completely stressed out too and is just really worried about ou having surgery. Yes, even tho he supports your decision and agrees with it, he would still be worried about his "love" going under in surgery (I know my husband was)...and so he is probably being pushesd to the limit and this is the way his "concern" is being manifested. Just a thought.
  10. Hey everyone: thanks for all your input/comments. It was nice to hear your shares/views. FYI: I'm taking my scale back today and geting my $91 back! I'll stick with my analog scale for now. I do only weigh once a week; but I do count on it to help me track my progress. And, yes I expect variances but even if I do everything right with the scale I don't think I should get THAT much variance...especially when the scale "guarantees" consistent accuracy up to .2 lbs!!!! The money will be better off in my pocket than on a crap scale that doesn't do what it is supposed to!!!! Tks again for input.
  11. Yup, the scale is always placed in the exact same place on the bathroom floor (tile)...not carpet. Also, I do try and stand in the same spot and be still. Wheetsin: my scale is a WW scale and it says the same thing...up to 350 lbs with .2 % accuracy. Hence my frustration!!!! For the record, my hubby is very supportive!

    New Lapbander

Way to go Leila!! The worst is over (sort of!!) LOL> Be good to yourself the next several days. Have some sugar free popsicles for your sore throat!
  13. Buffie....LOL the cab ride from the clinic to your hotel in Mississauga will NOT take 45 mins!!! If it does, the cabbie is ripping you off!!!!! Even in rush hour it shouldn't take that long. Make sure he takes the Gardiner Expressway to the 427 North.....it will be faster and less "stop and go" for you. Don't let him take you thru the city or it WILL take a lot longer (but not 45 mins!).

  16. Yup, way to go Cloe. Yeah, I don't think they were being insensitive; they just didn't know if it was "ok" to say something or to mention it. Me....I have mixed feelings. People are sort of damned if they do and damned if they don't. Part of me wants ppl to notice and perhaps make a comment and the other part of me doesn't want anyone to say a peep. Not that I think it will jinx it (though I'm sure that is how some ppl feel, Mary!) but omigawd...nooo, don't talk about me...even to my face about this!!! hehe. Plus, I don't want ppl to start making inquiries ("oh, how did you lose the weight" etc etc). Those who have said something: I sort of shrink up in embarassment and downplay it and change the subject; those who don't say anything, I think...helloooooo!!! I know it's me...not them. I'm the one with the "issues"! See what I mean; damned if they do, and damned if they don't!!!!! :tired

    Think Positive List

whoooo hooooooooooo collarbones!!!! I've seen photos of those!!! I'm not sure I actually have any...I might be a collarboneless person!!! Although when I poke around there I feel something hard. That might be a collarbone!!! I"ll let ya know!!!!
  18. LOL, our posts crossed Buffie; so I'll respond to your other concerns. Yes, I didn't mention it in detail in my previous post but the nauseau things was the thing I was also worried about the MOST. I HATE it and I will do almost anything to avoid vomiting or even dry heaving (ANYTHING!). I had some surgery a few yrs ago and I woke up form the anesth. vomiting...I was NOT a happy camper (that was also my first surgery). So, I had mentioned the same concerns. The staff & Docs at TLBC assured me that they would use the "strong stuff" (they prob do for everyone anyways) and they would make note of my concern and previous history. And, thankfully....all went well. I truly do not recall having any nausea. But, mind you, as I said, I didn't have to travel anywhere (other than down the hall!) until the next morning. I then had a 2 hr drive home and it wasn't too bad....my hubby had a pillow for me to hold on my tummy and some apple juice in a sippy cup and I had a pain shot before I left (you can take a demerol). Oh, and because the nausea thing scared me so much, I took liquid gravol every day for about 8 days....just in case. I wasn't leaving it to chance! And, no problems! Now whether or not it was the gravol that did the trick or that I just wasn't going to have a problem either way....I don't care!! LOL The clinic, by the way, is very chic! (I guess, when you consider how much money they are pulling in!!!!!). Even the robe I put on over my gown still have the price tag on it and it was $60 !!!!!! And, yes, I felt VERY safe there. Even overnight when it was just me and the nurse. Very safe indeed. Nothing to worry about. Don't get too worked up....you don't want to get into a frenzy!!!! Relax, and it will all be over soon. Be sure you come back here and keep us posted!
  19. Hey Buffie... It's normal to feel nervous (& excited) all at the same time, so don't fret. I second almost everything Woodys said!! I also had mine done at TLBC (21 Apr). Like Woodys mentioned, it all went very quick.....and not to worry; the staff were EXCELLENT and they make you feel comfortable and at relaxed. It's true...once you walk into the surgery room (it is freeeezing in there; I joked that it was to keep them awake during surgery!) and climb up onto the big table....boom, boom, bang you are out!!! Due to having sleep apnea, I knew I would be staying overnight at the clinic, so I didn't have to get up and move about right away; I was merely wheeled into my "room" where I had a nice drip (pain and hydration) and slept off and on (not great, but that is to be expected). I didn't experience any nausea (the drip also had anti-nausea drugs and they use realllly good ones during surgery as well). I was one of the lucky few I guess who hardly had any gas pain at all later on. Really, the whole physical experience wasn't near as bad as I expected it to be or was led to believe it was going to be. Like Woodys, I took the demerol religiously for 2 days (why suffer if you don't have to!) and then I switched to liquid tylenol (I was having weird dreams on the demerol). But, be sure you get your demerol script filled (perhaps whoever is with you can get it filled while you are undergoing the procedure) so that it is there and waiting for you when you need it after you go back to the hotel etc. Good luck on Thurs; I know it will go well for you!!!

    Our Lives

Hey Betty Boop. You must be getting excited! Don't worry about getting sick or being nauseous; I had the same concerns but they use really strong anti-nausea drugs, so I'm sure you'll be fine. For the next few days afterwards (just to be on the safe side because I really did not want to get sick) I took liquid gravol. Hey...I only live about 45 mins from Wonderland! Good luck this week!

How long does the gas last?

Strangely, I didn't really have an gas pain so I don't have any tidbits to offer other than just persevere and you too, shall get through this!! BTW, CONGRATS on being banded!!!!!

    Canadian Chat

Hey Teasie... For sure, as Argon said....let us know where you'll be moving to and we can give you a WEALTH of info. Personally, I've lived across Canada (including the North) so I'll be able to answer pretty much anything. As for those banks...no...as far as I know they are not in Canada at all. But you'll have no issues opening up an account at one of the many banks here. You should start getting used to temp readings in celsius though....and then of course you'll have to add the "wind chill factor" in the winter!! brrrrrr. Talk soon!

    Ideas for cottage cheese?

Janetinabudhabi: not everyone needs to be on a pre-op diet. It mostly depends on how heavy your are and your BMI. The reason behind the pre-op diet isn't necessarily to lose weight beforehand; it is to reduce the size of your liver. The pre-op diet lessens the fat in your liver, causing it to shrink...in turn this makes it easier for the doc. to do the surgery since he needs to sort of lift the liver and access beneath it to do the work. Therefore...less fatty liver makes his job easier and your recuperation easier. But again...not everyone needs to do this. Just ask him about it if you are unsure.
