  1. I met Loriely today at TLBC while she was awaiting her surgery. Also met her hubby (he gets banded in Aug). She gets back home today... WELCOME TO BANDLAND!!! Let us know how it went when you are up and about etc....and able to come say "hi". Hope it went well!!! Enjoy the wedding on Sat (yup, she's off to a wedding on Sat...not hers though!!! LOL Imagine!!).

Howdy...hopefully some folks in BC will fill you in on some of the info you are asking about. I'm in ON so I can't really help you out on those specifics (unless you want to go to Toronto for the surgery)! As for the insurance question...from my understanding, none of the provincial plans cover it and Blue Cross doesn't yet cover it (and IF they ever do it will likely be quite some time before it comes into effect). Although I know there are some people who are in a battle with blue cross but with little luck so far. Good luck and I hope some BC folks respond for ya!

    Welcome to Bandland Loriely

Nice to hear from you Loriely. Too bad about the wedding but probably a wise decision! Be good to yourself!
  4. Okay, so I finally have some restriction now (since my fill on Thurs). About 2 or 3 hrs ago I had a digestive cookie (just one) and I feel something "sitting" sorta I guess where my band is....it's not painful, although it is slightly discomforting. About 30 mins ago I had a bit of hot tea thinking that might help (it didn't). So, my question is....(because our supper is almost ready) should I just avoid eating right now and wait to eat supper until this feeling has gone away? I'm not sure if I should "test" it and take a few bites of supper or if that would be completely stupid. I REALLY don't know because I don't know if this means something is stuck (in which case I know I shouldn't put more food on top of it...right?) or if it is just a weirdo feeling that you normally get with restriction. Advice appreciated!!!! Please and thank you!

That is AWESOME Cloe!! Yeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! How was the trip home on Fri up the 400? Uneventful, I hope! So, my friend, you and I are sorta at the same point! I went out to dinner last night and I had some poached eggs....and a bite of soft toast with jam on it. YUMMY. I'm not so sure if I was "full" afterwards but I didn't eat much but I think it was more out of fear than being full!! I'm reallly paranoid right now to eat much anything solid....!!! Anyhoooo, way to go!!! :scared:

    What is my problem?!?!?!?!

Hey Diane....you have a great attitude, really you do...just let it work for you. I truly believe that you can be at a plateau for a long time and then all of sudden...booom...it'll happen. Case in point...our post-op coord (who got the band 5 yrs ago) "only" lost 35 lbs in her first year. The second year, she lost 90 lbs!!!! And she is at goal and maintaining. So, even if things look "dim"....it can turn around for the better!!! Keep up the great work!! And don't forget about your past accomplishments/success as you strive for those next 30 lbs!
  12. YIPPPPEEEE KIYAAAAAA!!!! Okay, for those of you who followed by "not so fun" fill saga last week (see thread on "Frickin' Fills") I do believe the Force was with me today!!!! Dr. Yau found my port right away (by find, I mean stuck it with the needle)....although I had to stand up for him to do it and he said it was very tricky...it has re-positioned slightly so that it is a wee bit angled. He is my hero for having got it! BUT....get this....on 1 Jun (first fill) I had 5 ccs put in (by nurse) and a few days later I had another 2 put in (by Dr. Joffe) because I was feeling no restriction for a total of 7 ccs. OR SO I THOUGHT!!! Today, Dr. Yau pulled it all out to check and I only had 2 ccs in there!!!! (not 7!!). NO WONDER I had no restriction!!! We figure that the nurse actually missed the first fill and it went into netherland and not my port. OKAY, so today he put in 4 ccs....giving me a total of 6 ccs. I sat in the waiting room to drink my Water and was having a tough time but at least I felt SOMETHING!!!! whooo hooooooo! But I was quite uncomfortable just sipping water so he took out 1 cc....leaving me with 5 ccs (what I was SUPPOSED to have on June 1st!!). So, I'm basically where I should have been on 1st of June...but for real this time!!! I'm just so dang happy that I feel something! I don't know if it will end up being enough or the sweet spot but I have restriction!!!! (I think....I won't be trying food for a day or so...but I do feel "something" with the water). The next time I have a fill though, the Dr. wants me to go to the hospital he works from and have it done under x-ray....just so he can have a looksie. I don't mind....I have something now!!!! The "feeling" is no longer a mystery to me....(I don't think!). hehehe...yup, I'm happy. BTW, I met a fellow LBTer there today (Loriely); she was having her surgery this afternoon...I also met her husband....(he is having surgery in Aug)...it was kewl to meet them. Anyways, okay...just wanted y'all to know that there was a happy ending to my fill saga, after all. ....hmmmm....now if I can just remain a PB virgin!!!!!
  13. GOOD LUCK CLOE!!!!!! I'm sure it will go well; be sure to come tell us about it! Also, be safe on the drive...especially comin' home...you know how crazed those cottage country folks are when they are escaping TO on their way up the 400!!! Just be patient and take it easy. PS: don't use concrete, it weighs more and that'll just defeat the purpose!!! :heh:

    FILL SUCCESS!!! (me thinks)

Mr. Loriely: hehe.... Thanks for the update...that is GREAT that it went well. Treat her good....cause you'll be in her shoes in just over a month!!!!
  15. I think it is okay now....after 2 days of errors.... hmmmmmm hope this will now be the status quo!!
  16. Hmmmmm....for the last lil' while everytime I try to get into the Canada thread...there is a problem...(it says a technical problem)....yet I have no probs getting into any of the others. Anyone else having this problem??? :cry

    Band v Bypass

Don't forget that lapband has been around MUCH MUCH longer than 2001...just not in North America; for instance Australia and some European countries have been doing it for over 15 yrs!
  19. MMMMMMMMMWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ya buggers....I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!! Good try but ya can't get rid of me THAT easy! For info on how my fill went today...check out the thread I'm about to put in the "support" section.....(so all can see and not just us Canucks!). Hey, I met Loriely at the Centre today....she was just about to go for her surgery when I left. My husband and I had a nice chat with her and her hubby (he is getting banded as well....near end of Aug). It was kewl to meet them.
  20. NOTE: THIS IS A COPY/PASTE FROM MY POST ON THE CANADA THREAD...thought I'd post it here as well so as to share my experience with "everyone" as opposed to just Canuck Land. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Okay, so as you know, my first fill was an absolute breeeeze. In/Out no problemo. No restriction...so went for a second fill a week later. That was a terrible experience for me. A different nurse was doing it; didn't know if that was the reason or not. So, she tried about 20 times (seriously) to "get it". Prick prick prick prick...over and over and over. NOT fun. OF course it eventually started to get quite painful. By then, the doc. had arrived and so he tried. It still took him 3 tries but he did get it (after he had me stand up for it). Okay, so still no restriction....so 3 weeks later I went for my 3rd fill (which was yesterday). My husband took the day off work (as did I) to go to Toronto: it is a 2 hr drive (one way). I was happy because the nurse who did my first easy peasy fill was going to be doing it. So, I was confident. Two hours later I was still there and she was still trying to get it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. It wasn't her.......she was doing others as they came in and they were in and out really quick. At least this nurse had a more gentle touch and despite trying about 30 times (yes, 30!) it wasn't as painful as the last time. Plus, she would just leave the needle "in" there most of the time and then try and move it around....rather than pull it completely out and try fresh each time. She was "on the port" with the needle....we could "hear" it tapping it and I could feel it inside (no pain)....but she couldn't actually get the needle in the hole. MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN talk about frustration. For her and of course, for me. We both gave up after 2 hrs of trying on and off (it was starting to hurt). The docs weren't there this week, so I didn't have that option. So, we drove 4 hrs, (wasted gas and time and a day off for both of us) for NOTHING. No fill so therefore still no restriction. I have an appt to go back next Thurs for the doc to give it a try. If he can't do it then I will have to wait for an appt. (I've heard up to a month!!!!) to go to the hospital and have it done under fluoro. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. The nurse said that she thinks my port may have turned sideways....but if so, the doc can prob still get it. But let me tell you....of course now I'm a little (a lot) skittish to even have another go at it next week. But I don't have much of an option. It was soooooo frustrating seeing others go in and out in 2 mins. So, of course I went through the "why me" syndrome and didn't have a good day or night yesterday. I have it in a better perspective this morning but I'm still very frustrated at the whole ordeal. Tks for letting me vent. frickin' frickin' frickin...... Oh, on a gooood note...on the way home from TO we went to see SUPERMAN RETURNS in 3D at the IMAX theatre and it was AMMMMAAAAAZING on the Imax screen (as well as the few 3D scenes they had). Off to work now!!!! Ciao and have a great day!

    Grrrrr frickin' fills

Okay, so tomorrow I go to Toronto again for a second try at my 3rd fill. Wish me luck. I'm trying to be optimistic. I called today to confirm that the doc WOULD be there. If he can't get it.....well....if he can't ...then grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I will be an unhappy and disappointed camper. I'm a lil' anxious about it all ...in lieu of what happened last week....but here I go again!!! *finger, toes and all other extremeties crossed*
  22. Okay....so out of curiosity, I signed in under another user name and I have nooooo problem getting into the Canada thread under THAT name (same computer).....???? WTF??? Why can't "Yoda" get in there??? :cry I sent an e-mail to the techie person (I think I did it right) for some clarification on this...but it is very confusing to me.
  23. Alright...this is getting ridiculous!!! Seriously, everytime I attempt to enter the Canada thread I'm STILL getting a "technical error" and I can't get in...yet I have nooooooooooooo problems coming into any other thread!!!!??? WHASSSSSUP with that? It would make sense if it were all of them, but why just that one? And, we're talking EVERY time, so it isn't just a coincidence!!! Thoughts anyone?
