Afterall, what better way to learn, than from our own and others' mistakes. Put yourself on a pedestal???!!! Ummmm.....I don't think so. Dunno 'bout you guys, but I ain't here to be an example to ANYONE....tis hard enough getting thru the day sometimes just for MEEEEE let you!!! I agree. Jann Arden is FREAKIN' HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! If she wasn't performing as a singer, she would rake up as a comedian!

Hi Cloe...tks for sharing your tale. You're correct, the good news is that your band worked!!!! And you didn't eat the rest of the Big Mac Meal...so that is something to Celebrate, as you said. As for the rest....you're still gonna have bad days like that and all you can do is your best. Yeah, maybe some of the shaky skeletons returned...but that is okay...they were shaky. And..next time, they will be more shaky. It's all a learning curve. But I know that you know that....so, all I can say is KEEP UP THE GREAT work...you're doing fabulous....I'm sure nobody out there goes through this without any setbacks of some sort and demons re-surfacing!!!

Yes, I've seen the commercial for TLBC on TV now for about 9 months or more. I had already been researching at that point!

That is awesome Maria!! Way to GO!!!!! :clap2:
-
Yes, I saw her in concert around Oct/Nov timeframe (05). I love her. And, yes she had lost some weight. She has been trying to lose weight for quite some time now though and apparently things started really falling into place with her once she started running. She is now an avid runner and she is a big salad eater. She hasn't had surgery or anything like that....just has added a lot of exercise to her regime.
-
sorry loriely...I didn't experience that at all so have no words of advice. I do, however, recommend that you call Kathy at TLBC (or e-mail her) and ask her about it.

Yeah....I agree. No need to look at the complications threads unless you actually have a complication!

Jeez, ya learn something new every day...and here I thought I was quite knowledgeable on acronyms!!!....hehe.. This is something I never even thought about and didn't even know was "fat" but the other day my husband commented that the Fupa and Fula is all gone now. At first I was annoyed....as I didn't even know it WAS fat!! LOL. But, no matter...'tis gone now! -

How 'bout polident tablets???!!! LOL -
Hiya Time2Live... no worries, my friend. Your emotions are just completely out of whack...so virtually ANYTHING (even if illogical) is going to set you off into highs and lows....mostly lows right now. Hence your unexpected cry....you'll have more too! But don't fret about it...just know that you can chalk it up to the anesthetic. For most people, the residual effects of it include "sadness" and unpredicatable emotions (usually on the down side) for a few weeks. This happened to me and many others on here and my doc told me that it was a recognized side effect. Knowing that actually helped me a lot when all of a sudden, for seemingly no reason...or a mild reason I would get all sad and have a big cry (not something I normally did or am normally like!). After about 6 weeks it stopped.

*bragging*...I'm still a PB virgin!!! MMMWWWWWAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! :biggrin1:

Yes...use a heating pad....it will help with any pain.

Yes, Kim....the total cost is fills for life!! It's a good deal. The reason we do so well on the pre-op diet is because we know we HAVE to for the surgical procedure to go well and there is light at the end of the dark yougurt tunnel....cause two weeks isn't too long. Now, if we had to do it forever....as you said....NO WAY!!!! Too daunting!
-
Mandi...that is pure mean!!! LOL Don't give your b/f your leftovers in addition to him eating his regular portion!! Poor guy!!! My hubby has done well since I got banded...he is down 24 lbs...he is doing things like eating slower and stuff too.

hey vines ***HUGS***...that's all it takes....is one positive step in the right direction. Testing is good! Hang in there. -
Though the doc may tell you to progress a BIT faster than prescribed...the post op diet is very very VERY important. Don't forget...you can't see your insides and what is going on in there...it is for your safety and to help you heal inside and to NOT cause any band problems while it and the stitches etc are trying to heal. THAT is why the post op diet.....it isn't like a quick draw to losing weight quick...it is for healing. So, be wary.

AWESOME!!! :clap2: :clap2:

I completely agree with Wheetsin & Elizabeth....a few days, even a week or two is NOT a plateau!!!! I also agree...it is best (mentally) if you only weigh once a week...too many variables going on otherwise that can detrimentally affect your mental state and then your motivation factor!!!

The ONLY reason folks wouldn't lose weight as fast if they drank pop is it is wan't diet!!!! It doesn't have a special ingredient in it that slows down weight loss other than calories...and 0 calories has no effect!!! I'm not saying pop is good for you but DIET pop will not slow weight loss. Regular pop...YES>.....due to the sugar and caloric content. Just wanted to clarify.

As far as I know.....no...not in Canada.

Hi Kim welcome to Canuck bandland!....I agree with everything Argon said. I had mine done at TLBC by Joffe/Yau on 21 Apr. I stuck to the pre-op diet and lost 17 lbs in 2 weeks. Like Argon, I found I did ok because I "had" to do it for my safety....and it really did help. Plus, it will then be easier for you after the surgery than for those who didn't have to do a preop diet. The diet will be hard for the first 4ish days (serious carb withdrawal symptoms) but then you'll be ok. As Argon said, no...you don't NEED to know your BMI...it is just another useful gauge to have. Don't worry...you'll find it out on the day of your surgery; you'll get weighed and have your body fat/BMI calculated etc by Kathy. No need to worry about the band size....docs will know which one will best suit you once they are in there....everyone's insides are different! Band size will affect the # of total CCs it holds....so you don't need to worry about how many cc's you will get for your eventual fills. They'll figure it all out for you and help you sneak up on the eventual perfect restriciton (which may take a while...but that is normal). I STILL find it difficult to not drink with meals and I will admit I do have a few sips here and there....but that is my choice...I'm willing to accept perhaps slower loss for that. You can't actually "choke"...no more than if you completely pigged out now and choked (which I doubt happens!). Will it solve the problem of always being hungry? Apparently yes. If I'm COMPLETELY honest with myself I can say that I don't feel hungry much....however, of course it doesn't help the "head hunger" and that is what I fight on a daily basis. I also didn't tell anyone other than husband and two close friends. Don't worry....people will not notice. Not once you have recovered....obviously they will notice for the first 6 weeks since your post op diet is quite restrictive...so just avoid those types of situations. But afterwards, it is too easy...been there, done that...they don't really notice anything odd. There is a TON of things you can say to explain it if they do. "Just eating more healthy" "eating less" etc etc. Most certainly look around on this thread and the general and support ones and glean all the info you can. The search function is also very useful if you want to search for answers on a specific topic area. Ask away! Good luck...and yes!!! Start getting prepared now for your pre and post op diets!

Yeah, there has been a few threads on this with the same theme. Some do, some don't. Some docs say it doesn't matter, some do. Even at the Centre I had it done....there are 2 specialist docs there who perform the surgeries together and one says it is ok and the other says no. I'm just listening to my own body signals. I can handle it no problem But I only have a few sips from my husband's. In total, I maybe have 2 cans a week....which is better than my pre-banding of about 4 cans a day (caffeine, free diet pepsi was my drug of choice).
